Default Spending Money to Make Money??

Okay. I am STRESSED. So, I understand that stripping is kind of a business endeavor (At least in Washington state). But I have spent like 125.00 on outfits/shoes, and I also had to spend 180.00 to get my entertainment license. I have never danced before, but I got a job at a really cool club that just opened and I start Friday. I am not nervous, but I'm scared that I spent all this money and that I might not make it back very fast. Can I get some reassurance?
    Thanks!

You should be able to make it back pretty quick, specially with the warmer months coming up. Yes, this is a business where you have to spend money to make money. But once your cashflow gets good and constant, you wont worry about it as much. Good luck!

Well, the need for fresh costumes and shoes dovetailed with my shopping addiction (LOL). My advice is to find ways to cut down overhead costs. Make friends with a seamstress who can make you gowns and other specialty items. Buy costumes from other dancers, or swap....as for shoes, buy on the Internet.
Keep your eyes open at outlet stores for, um, "spicy" -type items you can wear in the club. My friend found a cute silver tube dress for me for ten bucks....I was so grateful to her because that would have cost thirty or forty from a shop or wardrobe lady.
I take pride in looking good, I just wish I hadn't spent so much...oh well.

Save your receipts. You can write all this off during tax time.

I heard you're not allowed to write that stuff off on your taxes anymore. Something about a stripper doing it and getting in a huge debate with the IRS about it. Is that just a rumor? It doesn't seem like it'd be fair but the IRS never is. I'm hoping it's just a rumor.

Look in the Dollar Den; there is a lot of advice. Basically, if you can prove it's exclusively used for work (like a see-through gown or 8" platforms) you can deduct it; if it can be used outside of work (a bikini, for instance), you can't. The license should be deductible for sure. You can't deduct tanning, gym memberships, nail, hair, and makeup expenses, since these are things a goodly portion of non-stripping women spend money on. Hey, I wonder if they would be deductible if guys got regular manicures? hmmm.

Yes, I think you have to spend money to make money, but I am also SO nervous about this. I honestly have only $90, and when it's gone, it's GONE. I have to some how stretch that $90 for a bikini wax, shoes and put together some sort of costume for when I start dancing on Tuesday night....

Hopefully the cash flow will start up quick!

You spend money to make money, and I found that I made all of my expenditures back really quickly. If you are constantly worried about how much money you are making, you are stopping the flow. Don't worry about the money, go in with a good/fun attitude and enjoy yourself dancing.

i agree with venus. i had the same issues with spending a whole bunch of money on stuff for work, but then i realized that i made that back and then some. just think cheap-do your own eyebrows, nails and hair for instance. it gets easier with time.
