    Question about Birth Control Pills

Ok, i've taken BC pills before when I was a teen to regulate my menstration. Not for sexual activity. Ever since then, i've never taken them again.

So my question is, does it lower your sex drive? Or it depends on the pill/woman?

It depends on the pill dosage and the woman. Some dosages make you crazy PMSy. Its all a matter of finding the pill that works best for you.

I think she means hormone dosage in the pills..Ortho Lo has a very low dose of hormones, and I thought it would be a good idea, but every other month my period would either be a week early or on time, not to mention me worrying that the dosage was so low I could get pregnant. When I get back on BC I plan on going back to the regular ole Triphasil or Trilevelen (sp).

i've been on them for awhile and for the first month or two i was a little bit nutty but now (about a year into being on them) i'm fine. I do find however that once in awhile my period will come early.

I have been on BC for the last 11 years and finally found ones I like.

Im on them cos there is no other viable contraceptive option.

I have to say: they KILL my sex drive. I have tried lots of kinds. I even went to the best gyno in my country. He told me that ALL contraceptive pills would do that to me as I was one of the unlucky women that they had this effect on.

    There's other contraceptives than BCPs.

My boyfriend can't get it up with condoms. Diaphragms, from what I have heard are messy and the iud isn't recommended for those who have never had a baby.

    What else is there?

Not sure about the initials of those medications (as we probably have different names in Australia) but the contraceptive shot and patch still work using the same principle as the pill, hormones, and they will all have the same effect as the pill.

If there is some other RELIABLE method which does not use hormones I would love to know.

Aparently the male pill is still being tested and will take some years to come to Australia. I wish they would hurry up.

Ortho-triclyn (sp?) didn't help with my acne, it made my tits sore, and it made me moody as hell. The Depo-provera shot (progestin only) blessed me with fibromyalgia and stress fractures during basic training. I am now considered a disabled vet. I also went without my period for about 4 years on it. Ortho-lo made my acne worse, made my tits more sore, low sex drive, and again, extremely moody. I was much happier when not on any pills, but I absolutely do not want any children right now and feel much safer with a back up birth control. I am now using the mini pill (progestin only), my fibromyalgia tried to come back, but I am on a strict diet and exercise regimin and it has really helped. I have no sore breasts, aggravated acne or moodiness, and my sex drive kicks ass. I haven't had a period on it either, but that's normal.

I take depo, I get NO period now (2 yrs later).. MY best friend has spotting.
I don't think it has affect my drive at all, hell she's a horny little one.... It fixed everything for me, I have problems with my period as a teeenager and now mild to no cramps so it works for me!
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

Been on Ortho-tricycline for 5 years (with two short periods of not taking it) and have had no problems at all. Well...when I was off for 3 months my sex drive went through the roof. We're talking 5x/day was not enough. On ther pills 2-3x/day is normal-good. I can't wait until I'm ready for kids because I'll want to hump like a rabbit and have a very good excuse to wear out my man!

According to my gyno it is only certain women who get a loss of sex drive. These women are sensitive to hormones (like myself). For these women, different pills will have varying degrees of loss of sex drive but ALL will have some effect.

My gyno also says that women's hormones are like a delicate flower, perfect as they are and the petals easily crushed. In other words hormones levels are a delicate balance and when you start messing with them that delicate and perfect natural balance is affected.

syntetic hormones affect each individual differently. Some women's natural hormones cause more problems hence why some women are prescribed BCP to control these hormone flucuations (I'm having a spelling issue pardon me). Each BCPs chemistry is a little different so it will affect an individuals body very differently. Thats why it is important to try the particular BCP for a period of time and if it doesn't work for you try the next and so on. Now if you have had problems with sex drive and BCP usually a physician will try triphasic pills like tri-levlen since they have a lower indicence of loss of sex drive. There are physicians that are very anti synthetic hormone may it be prempro for menopausal women or BCP, Depo, Nuva Ring etc. for premenopausal women

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Same with me with the Ortho-tricyclyn. I remember taking that when I was 17/18 yrs. old & it made me break out terribly. It also didn't help, if anything it made it worse. I want something that'll calm my acne when the time of the month comes, & something that wont kill my sex drive.

The depo gave me my period constantly for months. Also gained weight. It was horrible. I forget to take the damn pills, and the IUD made me bleed all the time.

Now I use an over-the-counter contraceptive jelly form ortho-nova (I think) that works great. It is clear, odorless, not messy (comes in its own syringse) and has kept my son an only child for 4 years. It is a little messy the next day, otherwise no side effects. I highly recommend it!
