OMG, I just came back from seeing this movied. Absolutely LOVED it!!

I saw it last night with my skeptical girlfriend, and we both loved it. The cinematography and style alone makes it worth seeing. Black and white with flashes of blue and green eyes, red lips, blindingly white fluorescent blood - startlingly beautiful. I loved Mickey Rourke - he was my favorite performance, with Rosario Dawson as second (damn she's hot).
My only criticism is how sexist the movie is - but that's to be expected, I suppose.

YES, that's probably why I loved it so much. The black & white throughout the whole film with the hint of a little color. That was so hot. And wow, Rosario has a kick ass figure....really hot girl. Never noticed her before this film really.Originally Posted by smartcookie
Ms. Dawson is very hot - my favorite (with Carla Gugino running close behind). If you like her, I recommend 25th Hour, which has a lot more going for it.Originally Posted by Vyanka

I just saw it. Afterward, I told my roommate, "I need to go to a petting zoo now.." Some said it was mysogynistic violence, but I think the the violence was spread out equally against anything carbon-based.
And a few small details make the timing of the release bombastically unpolitically correct....(wink)
I'm not getting why some people think there was too much violence against women, if anything the violence against women was acknowledged and then AVENGED gruesomely and completely - guys are trying to molest a hooker? Gets chopped to pieces by other women. Anyone messes with the women in the movie, either another woman takes them out or a man does because it is wrong to mess with them. I'm not going to go into every individual circumstance because of too many spoilers, but geez.
Anyway, bf and I saw it yesterday. I've read most of the graphic novels and he's read none of them. Both of us loved it.

Dammit, this is just cruel...
I have to wait until it filters over to the cinemas here, now. It's amazing just how impatient a person I really am.
Somebody make me feel better, say that it sucked.![]()

I am seeing it tomorrow, during the day. My husband, who is in Vegas on business, just saw it and asked me the same question. That once I see it, can I explain those exact two scenes to him.Originally Posted by Meea

I wish he was back here so we could see it togetherOH well, he'll be back on Thursday.
Cheers to all,

Devillkitty, that was a great movie. The scene were he rants in the mirror is priceless. I might see sin city thhis weekend. Seems like everything at the theaters lately is just a big disapointment.
I just saw it..........not sure how I feel about it as all I can think of is Clive Owen, Clive Owen, Clive Owen..........goddam he's a sexy piece of ass.........
Micky Rourke was the best character in the movie for sure, best acting gig he's had in years. He should be properly rimming Rodriguez about this time.
Jessica Alba's lips look like two greasy worms on her delicate face, its distracting....
And I LOVED Rosario Dawson and the avenging hookers, super-hotness....
If I could be sammiched bet. Clive and Rosario with that mohawk she sports in the movie, I would die a happy strippa!

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.
Oooooh, I almost forgot about Carla Gugino.......why isn't this chick in more movies and why isn't she naked in all of them......her figure reminded me of myself when I'm eating and working out......teeheehee.....?
My friend and I just had a phone review of the movie......there were several parts where we both had to cover eyes from too much violence. Which part do ya'll think Taratino directed.....I have my theories........

Kymchoon, I'm certain someone has already downloaded the movie somewhere, if not yet then soon, so if you don't want to wait 3 months for it to come to Australia...Not that I'm condoning movie piracy. Really I'm not.
Yeah, I want a Gugino/Rosario sammich. Anybody see Gugino in The Center of the World - mmmmm, her and Molly Parker.Originally Posted by Katrine

Doesn't surprise me a bit. It's so underground, you had to be a real big buff to even know what it was. When it came out 12-15 years ago (I forget the year), it was all the rage among the elitist comics folk. Sound odd? Elitist COMIC BOOK folk? Thing is, for a while after Miller gave the WHOLE Superhero thing a shot in the arm with Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, i suppose that a lot of people kinda decided that they didn't want to be associated with the "POW! BANG! ZAP!" stuff that still had a *kiddie* reputation (still does have that rep), so they decided to trumpet Sin City as the new savior. One could read it and not get hassled for reading about guys in spandex shooting beams out of their eyes.Originally Posted by Vyanka
In fact, when it first came out, i thought it was cheap and kind of dumb. Miller seemed to *try* to shock the reader, and it didn't help that every guy at the comic shop would stand there and try to talk me out of picking up my Superman titles and into picking up Sin City. Because it was "cooler" (and you wouldn't believe some of the fat, hairy, drooling, mom's-basement-at-40, slobs that would argue with me over what was "cool" and what wasn't).
For years i couldn't stand Sin City because of that. Never gave it a chance. After a while i started digging it, because it wasn't "trendy" anymore. It's just that *the it thing* and COMIC BOOKS just doesn't seem compatible to me. I read Superhero comics because i've done it since i was a five year old, it's how i learned how to read. It was actually the character of Hartigan from That Yellow Bastard that got me into the whole series. I just couldn't get into the adventures of a psycho-killer like Marv, or a killer like Dwight. Not after reading SUPERMAN my whole life.
Tarentino directed the equivalent of one issue. It's near the middle of the movie, a tad bit into the second story (The Big Fat Kill). A dead guy starts nagging the poor slob in the driver's seat.
I was covering my eyes too for parts...I don't like blood and yucky things. I came home and cuddled my kitten.
Smartcookie....doesn't it say or imply that hartnett is a hitman in like the first 10 mins of the movie?....I sitll don't get it...perhaps I covered my eyes too much.

That was the one character in the movie that I could get into, the one played by Bruce Willis. Most of the characters didn't seem to have much humanity, so you really didn't care what happened to them. I liked the style of the movie, some of the characters were interesting, but it mostly just seemed like a shitty world with very little humanity, or very little good humanity. The violence was kind of on the cartoonish side, and there was so much of it that it wasn't very interesting for me, kind of like in Kill Bill Vol. 1.Originally Posted by Madcap

i thought the movie was good and was kinda confuseing at the same time. i liked jesscia alba charchter and bruce willis charchter too. i liked that asian girl too. i like the killing and violence in the movie very intresting. it was a good movie.

The only times we (Australia) seem to get movies prior to the US release is things like SW and any "aussie" type of movies.
Therefore.. I feel your pain![]()

I wonder why they don't do worldwide english language releases? I can see why it takes a while to release something in french or italian, because you have to dub it, but Austraillia and New Zealand? The UK? That doesn't make much sense in the modern world, where the nations are a few hour plane flights away...Originally Posted by GoldCoastGirl
