"I very much resent it when people - maybe with good intentions or from a progressive point of view - keep telling me, 'It's their culture' ... It's like saying the culture of Massachusetts is burning witches." -Azar Nafisi

What a wonderful man. May he finally rest.

That's too bad. I hope they don't replace him with an evil pope. They do background checks for popes, don't they?

Hey, don't be sad.
The man lived an incredible life and accomplished great things. His end was a less-than pleasant one, enduring chronic pain for the last ten years. It was his time, and I'm glad he's moved on to The Other Side.
Joseph Stalin once asked Churchill, "The Pope? How many divisions does he have?"
He didn't need any to help bring down communism. For that alone, he has achieved greatness and became a legend in his own time.

Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the costs become prohibitive.
William F. Buckley, Jr.
Actually he served in the papacy for a long while because unlike previous popes he ascended into office at a relatively young age. Early in his term he survived an assasination attempt and suffered from Parkinson's for a long time. I'm watching the Headliners & Legends about him and there's a lot of stuff I never knew. I don't think there will be another like him in a long time. RIP

He will be surely missed.
