    Angry actresses portraying strippers

i recently saw an interview with jessica alba about Sin City and her portrayal of a stripper. the interviewer said that she was "incredibly brave" for putting herself out there like that, exposed to criticism. a similar interview was done with natalie portman during her promotion of Closer. the interviewer called her a "beautiful and brave woman" for attempting such a daring role.

did anyone else see these interviews? i can't remember what show they were on... does this rub anyone else the wrong way?

i just wish sometimes that actresses would admit that a lot of their job is to titilate. why do they pretend that the sexuality on screen is such an accident?

    i don't get it.

Yeah...those actresses were 'SO BRAVE' to step out and portray such lowly and immoral people. How BRAVE of them to take their clothes off on-screen for money. And, yet, strippers are just "horrible" people...who take their clothes off for *gasp* MONEY!

    I tell you...they're all HYPOCRITES!!

Heheh, Jessica Alba didn't even take off her clothes for her brave portrayal of a stwipper.

    ^ Amen.

If they were really brave, they'd be swinging around that pole like VG or IACali in the buff (or perhaps just a string). Where exactly is the bravery in playing a role where you should be mostly naked and exuding confidence and sexuality for frequently rude and repulsive strangers and yet you're wearing all your clothes?

Seriously, I frequently wonder how you girls do your job at all, though I'm very glad you do.

I was going to say exactly that, esp. since she made the decision not to take her clothes off.

My fave onscreen portrayal of strippers is in that indispensible classic, "Stripped to Kill." Pure genius. (Actually, one of the actresses really was a dancer; I worked with her a few years after the movie was out.)

My fave is dancing at the blue iguana, they not only did their own research, but helped write their character plots and they got naked!
If you are going to play a stripper than be a stripper! I was watching From Dusk til Dawn and Salma Hayek did an entire set without taking anything off, but the snake. At what club could we keep all our clothes on if someone's tipping?
I think it's a cop out, but very "brave" of them to almost be convincing as dancers. Although, Natalie Portman did have a pretty good outfit, too bad she had the nudity cut out.

This is exactly why I didnt watch that stupid Sin City movie with the Jessica Alba bitch in it. What the hell makes her so special for attempting to portray a stripper?? Gah. And then we get put down for our jobs. What dumbasses.

another thing that an "actress" said that got me personally

Carmen Elektra during her interview about her Exotic Dance work out videos stated that this way women in the Midwest could learn a few sexy moves for their man.

ugh. me from midwest, me not know about these sexy moves. ugh.

LOL...Screamin...I agree. In fact...if I wanted to learn sexy moves, it wouldn't be from THOSE tapes...LAME-O.

About Jessica Alba and Sin City...why would they consider her a "stripper" in that movie? Wouldn't she be more like a club ho? You know...the girls that put down skanky strippers and yet go to the club grinding all the guys while wearing "barely there" clothes? (of course, THEY do it all for free...or a drink...LOL...clueless).

CO, brilliant! Dancers are in the category of ER physicians in this regard: I can't fathom how they do their jobs, night after night, but I'm happy they exist in our world.

Regarding Sin City: It left me cold. Beautiful and imaginative use of CGI, but hollow, cartoonish characters that didn't draw me in emotionally or intellectually. If I were still 12-25, I suppose I'd have liked it much more.

Regarding Jessica Alba: WTF? Honestly, there are tons of better actors (ingenues) out there. I did like Natalie Portman in "Closer," a very different kind of movie--point taken. Portman seemed to come much closer to showing the emotional/psychological complexities of being a dancer. You ladies may disagree with that assessment, and I'll take your word for it if you do.

I loved her in "Closer" as well!!!

it didn't delve much into the stripping life style.
It was simplistic, which left me with a good taste in my mouth about her preformance.
    (she looked hot too)

If they dont know about stripping first hand they shouldn't pretend to.

My take on her is shes an actress this is her job nothing daring here she made a truckload of money , she does look hot I must say .

They should do a before and after of girls gone wild like ten years down the road and see whats become of these very out there girls and how do they feel about what they did then / now . Talk about good reality must see TV , now those are daring rolls in my book !

No, I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers either, but I'd hardly call doing a stripper role--without the requisite stripping--brave. No one is saying she isn't hot--she passes the 100m test easily for me--but considering the level of gore and violence in the film, gratuitious Jessica Alba nudity is missing.

Jessica Alba is gorgeous, I think they picked a good actress for the film. But I don't think she should've been titled a "stripper" in the movie, since no clothes were removed. More like gogo if you ask me.

Edit~ After reading Madcap's review, I had no clue this was like a comic book with a stripper character in it. Never even heard of it, lol.

Jessica Alba shouldn't have even accepted the part, honestly, if she didn't want to be authentic. And the director should have just found someone hot who was willing to go all the way with the role, rather than half ass it.

But her character, Nancy, in the source material, is forever onstage in that club. Not just in "That Yellow Bastard" (the story she appears as a major character in), but any time one of the other characters from Miller's little world are in there (which is a lot) she's always up there swinging that lasso like crazy.

I'll attach a couple captures from the source material so folk can judge for themselves (as well as a pic of her i like from John Romita Sr, who worked on Spiderman ages ago).

The first two are actually from That Yellow Bastard, captured from a pdf file i have of it. You'll notice those lights and darks Frank Miller uses. I added the second one because i thought some folk might be amused by the fatass who starts in to Hartigan about being an award winning photographer in the third panel. I'm sure that has never happened before in a strip club (heh). The third is just from one of the great comic artists who is buds with Miller, Romita Sr. She's more buyable onstage in the comic. I mean, it's not like a bikini club is even going to exist within Basin City. OLD TOWN Basin city, at that.

To me she is is not "brave" in the way you sensing, but maybe meaning stretching her own sense of modesty in portraying such controversial people. It is brave in the sense of possibly ruining her lucrative career by pressure from moralistic groups etc. which have tremendous influence any more.

She chose a less brave approach, and so maybe she was ingenuine about it. But as Madcap's opinion on this topic, maybe she should not have taken on the role at all and then called it "brave". In my opinion, bravery is making a living from having to expose that bare pussy on stage in front of who knows what kind of person.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

I totally agree and have said so in the real world. There are quite a few people who agree with us.

I think they were just looking for a brand name cast...

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Brand name cast all right... theres like a million of them.

And Jessica Alba annoys me too. Does she even have a speaking role in this movie or is it her job to just look "hot" because as an actress I think she is terrible. Shes so "excited" about her moves, too.

She was the weakest character in the movie. Sometimes a hot bod just don't cut it.......she didn't seem "tough" at all........

I bet, Katrine. Thats why I am surprised they would pick her for this movie and not someone hotter, or someone with a bigger pair of balls. lol
