I don't think there are any movies for inspiration at all.Either they are way off base with reality(i.e.,"Showgirls") or too damn depressing(i.e.,"Dancing At The Blue Iguana").

do a quick check on the net (or kazaa lite or equiv) for poledancers and strippers. i've downloaded a lot of really nice (1-5 min) movies from competitions and clubs. you have to weed through the porn tho...
also the documentary on the dancing at the blue iguana dvd is ok... better than the movie at least. haha

I rented it from Blockbuster.
I watched a documentary called "Stripper", but it was made in the mid 80's. You might have a hard time finding it, but it's worth seeking out because it's pretty interesting, especially when you compare it to how the business is today. I think it may have been shown on the "Trio" network, but it might be available on Amazon.
I liked Natalie Portman's portrayal of a stripper in "Closer" though it wasn't a huge part of the film, but the scenes shot withing the club were intresting in showing the dynamics of some stripper/customer relationships.
"Dancing at the Blue Iguana" is pretty good, IMO. It shows that there really are lots of different types of women that strip. Sandra Oh's character is a writer and she was my favorite. Daryl Hannah plays the stereotypical flaky, druggie, dumb blonde. Sheila Kelley (sp?) plays an extras girl and Jennifer Tilly plays the psycho freak that always keeps getting fired and bounces from the club to being a dominatrix and back again. Debbie Harry also has a cool cameo as a manager!
"She has written so well, and marvellously well, that I was completely ashamed of myself as a writer...But this girl, who is to my knowledge very unpleasant and we might even say a high-grade bitch, can write rings around all of us who consider ourselves as writers"

Dancing at the Blue Iguana is one of my favorites. I think it was very well done. Unfortunately, they seem to leave out the fact that there are happy strippers. lol...

I don't know about that, they seem to have problems just like anyone else.

Blue Iguana is findable at a lot of Blockbusters (that would be my other job, heh). Also, if you have any access to adult films, try the Nudes A Poppin series. They film a lot at the Miss Nude competitions. Its more arse than stripping, but you see some of the competition.

I'm not sure how much inspiration these have but .....Dancing at the Blue Iguana, Lap Dancing(Lorissa McComas), Striptease(Demi Moore), Stripper(1986), The Center of the World, Stripped(Jill Morley), Stripshow, Lap Dancer(Elizabeth Wagner), Without Air, Exotica, The Canadian Ballet, and a bunch of "B" movies where strippers save the world.

As far as documentaries go I have found most of the one's I have seen to be extreamly depressing! One was called ''The strip game'' with method man.Originally Posted by amybell80
and another called ''stripped''
Both were pretty depressing though.....
There is also 'live nude girls unite' but it mainly deals with the lusty lady and how they unionized. It's worth checking out though...
I would have to say my favorite movie about stripping is 'dancing at the blue iguana'. I thought it was really good and loved the charactors even if they did dramatize them a bit.

I'm not sure where you can find them, but the "G-String Divas" series by HBO is a good one.
Has anyone seen "The Player's Club"? Is the dancing any good?
i just saw that the other night!! .. it doesn't really show any dancing maybe a scene or two but thats it. Its depressing like most movies about the biz.. but not a bad movie.

As far as "real" goes, I think G-String Divas that was on HBO was the best....![]()
Dancing At The Blue Iquana is by far the most absurb.....good for a serious laugh...I have it on DVD cause it's so damn unintentionally funny....I remember seeing Darryl Hannah on Jay Leno promoting it. She had them bring out a pole and she showed her "moves" she had learned.....Oh brother....If she and other cast members really did visit clubs and do research they chose the easy way out and once again fed the typical stereotypes of "strippers".....
Best scene in that movie is Jennifer Tilly at her run down apt. with a customer dominating him......I laugh so hard when I see that scene.......
Sandra Oh was the saving grace of that film.

At my local library (here in London) I found the DVD of "Dancing at the blue iguana" for hire but I didn't wanna pay for like £4 ($8+) so we bought a brand new one. yes, it was fine movie.
Apparently, the director is an English guy that's why the story is a bit melancholic..?
I'd like to watch G-string Divas! sounds fun
By the way, what happened to the girl "Noemi" from Showgirls? is she appering on TV or anything? she's beautiful.

This thread got me inspired to head to Blockbuster. Picked up Closer, Blue Iguana, and one called The Ranch (about brothels)....started watching Blue Iguana....it's so SLOW!!! But fairly accurate portrayal of a lot of girls in this Biz. Not all, but many.....The dressing room scenes are SO right on target!!! Good grief, I felt like I was at work watching those scenes!! Especially when they raise hell when the new girl sits in someone's seat....man, that always happens at my club.

What about this "Sin City" they keep showing previews for? It looks great, and I am not easily impressed.
The surreal approach the previews imply is especially appealing.

Djoser, there was a thread on one of these boards about Sin City. I don't think it impressed too many people, at least from a dancer perspective...
