    Protecting face when tanning?

Okay, when I tan I always use an spf45 sunscreen on my face and put a towel over it.
However, the sunscreen is making me break out really bad so I would like to stop using it but don't want to damage the skin on my face.

So I was wondering if anyone know's how much protection---if any---just placing a towel over your face offers?

Or does anyone have any other suggestions? I don't want to stop using the sunscreen but I can't stand these pimples!

    Thank you

tanning outside or in tanning booth? The towel will act as a filter but won't completely block the UV rays, so you are still getting the tanning process started on your face. if tanning outside make sure you use a broad spectrum (UVA and UVB rays) sunscreen. regarding breaking out due to the lotion check if mineral oil is a major ingredient in the lotion, try a oil free I think most coppertone face lotions are broad spectrum sunscreens and oil free.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

I use Eucerin spf30 on my face before covering with the towel. No breakouts. Shiseido makes an spf 55 that is supposed to be delightful for the face. The Sephora store carries it (they don't carry it online)

I'd really like to try this stuff:

I do what you do but my SPF is lower and I admit I tan my face for about 4-5 minutes each session. Try a different sunscreen, or maybe one esp. for faces ?

Find a lotion that has SPF of at least 45 and Co Q-10 in it.

SG77,there are specialty indoor lotions made just for the face.

In the beds. I only tan in the high pressure ''super'' beds.

That's a good idea about getting an spf just for the face. The one I have now is for the body. Maybe facial one's are oil free?

I used to tan my face for 5 or 10 minutes but it dried my skin out in some places, like around my eye's ,and made it look like I had lines around my eye's which freaked me out since im only 23! So I figured I would just keep my face covered and use a sunless tanner.

OBT, Saph& muyaha I will check out the products you recommended.I will pick up some coppertone face lotion tommorow before I go tanning.

OBT what is Co Q-10 by the way?

    So here's another question:

I use SPH on my face and cover with a towel, but my face is lighter than the rest of me just a little bit however in photos, I look washed out... anyone else notice that they are lighter on their face as well?

^oh totally. I use makeup tho that matches my body somewhat also I use warmth on the apples of my cheeks (which is essentially a bronzer) that helps alot.

I'm confused about this CO Q10? Is it a pill, a lotion or both?

I agree, coq10 is one of the better supplements, great cellular energy, assists weight loss, excellent antioxidant. I think they make facial sunblock especially for blemish prone skin, also.

LSM, I agree, I need to buy stock in Walmart! Next thing you know, they'll be selling those adult entertainer shaver thingies there and I'll be spending most of my discretionary money at Walmart!

On a separate note, I think most fabrics offer about 8 SPF, not really enough to protect your skin. Pls be sure to use a higher SPF on your face (this coming from a 30-something girl!!!).

ya know, now that I think of it...I have seen this ingredient advertised on face lotion bottles...I don't recall what brand...I want to say Nivea? or Neutrogena? or Oil of Olay? or something like that. seems that taking it internally would be more beneficial.

i wonder what the effective daily dosage is for CO-Q 10? I know a bottle of CO-Q 10 100mg is a little steep.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

I am all about the deal, but with coq10 if I wanted to supplement with it I would get a quality one. New chapter is the best, one of those and I feel good, two and I almost feel too good. It is the best because it is food that has been fermented (like yogurt) The best USP, or synthetic one I have found is bluebonnet, I don't know if they are all over but they are here in Texas. 30 mg is the minimum dose, but you can basically take as much as you can afford, or want to spend Because of the way coq10 works in the body I don't know how effective it is topically but I don't know. anyway, my 2 cents, I am sorry this thread is about something completely different. Forgive me. On that note, I haven't tanned my face on purpose in about 8 years, except once or twice when I was broken out. right now I am not tanning but I do use neutragena build-a-tan on my face a few times a week to give it a healthy glow.....
