    Default IQ Tests

do you think IQ tests are an accurate authority on intelligence. They're an accurate MEASURE, but authority??

    Nope.

Most of them are an accurate measure of education, not an accurate measure of intelligence.

Psychometrically valid tests are pretty accurate and they measure your innate capacity for learning and retention, not education.

Imo, the whole notion that you can usefully characterize something as complicated and "multi-dimensional" as a person's intellignece/mind with a single (scalar) number, no matter how you "measure" it, is so inane and preposterous that it is difficult to seriously discuss. I mean, we would laugh at anyone who tried to assign a single number to, say, a computer or an automobile or a city or ... and claim that it measured its overall "performance". Just picking one, if we were talking about the computer, we'd at least want to know its cpu speed, RAM memory size, disk space, I/O modes and speeds, operating system characteristics etc. before even starting to discuss, say, its suitability and expected preformance for a given application. And, of course, a human mind/brain is incredibly more complex than a computer, car or city...so why anyone takes IQ even remotely seriously is a mystery to me. The fact that some do is mostly an indication of our ignorance of how our minds function, imo.
