How can I get rid of/avoid the goggle tan? Is it really that dangerous to go tanning without the eye wear if you leave your eyes closed the whole time?

I would suggest using the goggles, and then self-tanning lotion to even out the eye area. I personally would cover my entire face and then just use self-tanning lotion, but I'm a wrinkle-phobic!

They also make a product called winkies which are eye stickers. Definately use some sort of eye protection even if you keep your eyes closed.
This is the only pic I could find. Note the cone shaped gold foil eye covers on the box.

please wear your goggles in the tanning bed there's this site that shows and explains what happens if you do not wear the goggles in the bed ---> http://www.eyepro.net/content/domest...untermat01.php
I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Holy Fahhhhq! That shit was nastier than those boob job butcher sites!![]()

Although there is a much better picture of the winkies at the end of all that.
Thank gawd I wear my goggles under the towel.

LOL I'm an anal tanner. I clean my own goggles and tanning bed. I've just wrong things done in tanning salons by their clueless staff like not diluting the cleaning solution and then clean the goggle.

I have my own goggles. Should I be disinfecting those as well?

i wouldn't worry as much about it if you have your own..

Ewww...those pics are so nasty!!
I used to have a friend who owned a salon...and used to buy me a box of winkies. I kept the box at the salon, because I couldn't ever remember to bring them.
People think that bed tanning is soo much safer and are willing to take risks that they would not normally take with the sun (like tanning without eye protection). Outside you could get away with it. But, with the beds literally "inches" from your face...you do not want to take that chance...it would be like looking directly at the sun. No good.
Get the winkies...or they make tanning goggles that have no "connections" on them (no bridges or strings). Leaving the area lighter around the eye area can also help in "opening" up the eyes "naturally" when you are applying your eye make-up.
ohhhh goggle tan!!! i thought it said gOOgle tan,as in spending too much time on the net and not actually having a tan! ha
winkies... yes.. but everyone beat me to it. With those you only have to worry about your eyelid area when it comes to lighter places. I love winkies.

thanks everyone, I just ordered some winkies off the internet, and I will be using my goggles til they arrive.![]()
I have the one that aren't attached to themselves, I like them better than winkies because you can use them over and over, but from what I hear they are hard to find. they are just two eye pieces and can sometimes be found at the really fancy salons that only cater to tanners.
Winkies CAN be reused, but you have to make sure you don't get any greasiness ness onthe stickers or they are useless.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..
Couldn't you just buy a pair of the regular goggles and cut off the piece in the middle?
I used to reuse winkies too, I was too cheap to use a new pair each time.![]()
Oh god that is gross! I swear I want to go wash my eyes out now!
I bought a pair of goggles with a clear band at my tanning salon. They stay on in a stand up bed, but don't leave any marks. I actually found winkies covered more area than goggles, and therefore left more area untanned. So my suggestion is to find a good pair of small goggles with a clear strap.
