Default What would you do with this hair?

That's me in the avitar, and that is pretty much the way my hair looks ALL the time. It's cut in long layers, and I like the look for every day (it's pretty wash-n-go) but I am getting sick of it at work.

Aside from a wig or hair piece (I own several) what could I possibly do with this mop? I do not own ANY styling equipment, not even a blow drier, that is how styling-inept I am. My hair is thick and heavy, but really really wimpy. I never seem to have much luck getting it to hold a style. When I was in high school in the 80's, I was the only girl WITHOUT big hair. I got up extra-early do do it every day, but it flopped by the time I got out of home room.

    Any suggestions? Please?

Well, I'm not really an expert on hair at all, but whenever I see your picture I always think how cute and RED your hair is. I really like it. The next time you go in for a trim or cut, ask your hairdresser for ideas on how to style it. They should be more then happy to help. Also, I love flipping through magazines for style suggestions. Just look for someone that has similiar hair as you, so you know the style will work. Good luck, I hope you find something you like!

    1) Do you have a perm or naturally curly
If you have a perm then you have to be careful with blow driers etc.

    2) Do you have bangs and/or how long are they.. it’s hard to see in the pic.

    3) Do you use regular shampoo/ conditioner
This I ask b/c I have very thin hair so I only use professional product and believe me, it makes a world of difference on my hair!! It looks so shinny, strong and can take a serious beating!

    Let me know # 1&2..

I say shoot for going out and buying some styling products! Play around with them, say a blow dryer, relaxing creams, frizz ease, curling iron, flat iron etc. And maybe a colour (red) to put on top of you're colour, maybe a darker red.

You know what works best, finding a picture of a persons hair you admire best, and trying it out. With products these days you can do anything to you're hair with little damage to none if you take care.

Center part, straight-iron it, use a shine serum. I know that's pretty de-riguer for a stripper, but I think it would make the red hair stand out...

from what i can see in your avatar, it looks quite like mine. in my introduction post, i put a pic of me in it. thats my hair straightened with relaxer. but when it isnt, its thick and curly and red. i have the same problem. there isnt too much i can do with it... it doesnt hold well in updos. however, i recently got it cainrowed- but just the top, a few inches so it didnt go down the back of my head. it looked absolutely amazing... the contrast between small thin plaits and suddenly all this hair exploding out the back. i know thats not quite what you were asking for, but its a thought. you might be suprised how much it suits you... i sure was. i would recommend going to a black hair salon though.... i go to one and the things i have learnt to do with and care for my hair is great. sure, ill never be able to do as much as somebody with straight hair, but im grateful regardless.

I really think it would look cute if you straightened it! Your color would just POP on stage and off. I'm not sure how to do it because mine is straight...the girls on here or your stylist could sugest some ways to try it though!

Naiomi--Sometimes I simulate that with little clips. It looks good, AND keeps the hair out of my face!

About straightening--How do I do it? What is the best kind of flat iron to buy, and what other products do I need?

I just bought a flat iron to straighten my already straight hair. I never would have thought to buy one but when I had my hair done recently and she used it I was surprised at how it helped the little fuzzy ends and made my hair really shiny. I was told to buy a CERAMIC flat iron because your hair will not stick to it. I bought mine at Wal-Mart.

i might get yelled at for this, lol... because the flat iron i am going to reccommend is not ceramic. I used to have REALLY bad luck with straighteners and my friend told me about an iron by HOT TOOLS and it is WONDERFUL... i have excessively thick, just gross hair, and it makes it look nice, lol...i bought it at Ulta, but im stupid and i dont know how nationwide ulta is

If you're hair is naturally curly, buy a blow dryer with a diffuser. Get a curling hair gel or mousse or any kind of styling product that will help the curl. Blow dry your hair upside down for the most part, constantly scrunching the curls.........don't use a ton of product cuz you don't want that crunchy look.

You'll have big curly hair. Product is key. Get something LIGHT so it won't weigh your hair down.

Let us know how the flat iron goes.

I finally cought up with my friend who has the flat iron--WOW! I used it once, did about a 10-minute straighening job on my hair, and it looked AWESOME. I actaully had to stop at Walgreens on my way home to get one of my own!

I bet it looks great! I love my flat iron. I spray some hairspray to the roots of each section so it wont look flat to my head..

I am definitly going to try this!

Does anybody have some suggestions as to what products I can try that will not weigh down my hair? I have a real problem with that.
