What a shame. Such a wonderful, gorgeous and openminded member of the female of the species. I shall go light a small prayer candle and shed a tear in her honor now.

Yea, darn, a woman who has something to say..... whether I agree with her or not (which in some ways I do), she was a strong woman who did spend her life trying to better society. RIP, sista.

I think it's great she had opinons and voiced them. However,I think feminists are a double standard.Men that are proud to be men are seen as chauvinistic and misogynistic.I never did care for the term, feminist.

Can't say I'll miss her either. I never liked her-she was a very closed-minded person.
LOL @ what Rhiannon and MrChristopher said too! I'm sorry, but she wasn't beaten with an ugly stick-the whole damn tree fell on her!

I think her twisted take on sexuality did more harm than good. Though I'm loathe to speak ill of the dead, I won't miss her rantings.
I just don't care for "feminists" who tell me that I am incapable of making independent choices regarding my own sexuality, or that I am delusional if I believe that I am actually enjoying sex with men. Call me crazy, but I don't find this to be very empowering.
Of course, as a former sex worker, I don't appreciate theorists who assume that my involvement in the industry was the result of victimization, or who accuse me of being an accomplice in the abuse of women (which is not, in my opinion, caused by pornography.)
I prefer the "sex-positive feminists"They're usually cuter, too. Of course, the main problem with feminists (and those sociology-trained folks in general) is that they waaayyyy overthink gender roles without ever stopping to consider the basic biology that drives the differences between male and female behavior.
Well I guess with her out of the way I can FINALLY get a fuckin twinkie!
Ditto to Erotictonic and OTB. I can kind of see her views, but cannot really challenge them because I never knew her work. I think it's impressive to stand up for her views like that.
Anyway, I hope she rests in peace too.

i read this on another board
"She also argued that gender itself had to be eliminated before sexual equality could be achieved. "
id like to uh read up on her thoughts on that
why would that be an "aslo" argued that makes it secondary
haha
buyt i dunno exactly what shes reffering to just what i think the idea of gender identity
i do also feel the whole shabng definatly with the gender define/divde at the foundation
is orchestrated by a confused themselves patriarchy

I didn't know much about her work either.... I just read some of her stuff and yes, it does seem a bit extreme. I did find this page of quotes, and some of them are realistic. I am posting the link in her honor.....

you wont have to burn the books when noone reads them anyway
It's so sad that someone who had so much potential spent their life completely blinded by the anger and humiliation that they never dealt with in their own personal life.
Pornography doesn't cause/make a rapist.
I am sure that there are a lot of fat, ugly housewives out there who stood behind this woman completely...who felt better putting people down for enjoying sex, enjoying the act of showing off their bodies and truly embody the sensual, sexual, and complimentary art of sex. To those people, I can only say:
However, may she RIP...
I read her books, so I appreciate you not burning them, Princess. I am also of the opinion that she took the "the Personal is Political" mandate a little too far out of context, but she was not a stupid woman, and her ideas did, in fact, revolutionize the way, at least some of us, looked at power relations between men and women. Books written now about conversational patterns between the sexes by people who have never read a word she wrote are still based in her work. It's a good thing that she's not pretty so we can dismiss her entire life's work out of hand without so much as reading it.

Sure is a shame that people like that have to die before they have gotten a LIFE.
Seriously she is the type who spearheads local campaigns to rid communities of strip clubs. Or anything else fun between the sexes. There is nothing about her I've ever heard that makes her in any way likeable to me. Maybe the likes of that fat, slothful Jerry Falwell would see something useful in her life. But somehow I doubt it.
Other than those concerns, too bad.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.
Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

extremely sad. I completely disagreed with all of her stances on pornography and sex work but I still respect those ideas. I respect the fact that somewhere someone was vindicated as a result of her willingness to be offended, enraged, and disliked.
one thing I DO agree with that she said is that marriage "mandates intercourse". Yes there are people who love sex but there are also people who hate it and they have a right to abstain. We tend to forget that in today's world. I personally don't see the point of going through the trouble of getting married if you won't consummate your relationship, but some people DO see the point of a celibate marriage, and they have that voice to say "it's ok to NOT have sex" just as much as some people need vindication for choosing to be sexual.

Being a libertarian, I view her passing was a gift to society. It is only too bad it didn't happen earlier.

what did she die of can't find anything about it, just that she died and she was ill for a long time with osteoarthritis (probably due to weight).
I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.
