My beloved clear cone heels broke. The Y part of the ankle strap broke off. Has anybody ever taken these to a shoemaker or somebody to have them repaired? Did it work?

if its plastic i would just consider buying a new pair. Im not sure its worth the trouble?
All of the clear shoes I've ever had have done this. I just quit buying clear shoes. I don't see how they could fix snapped plastic, but if you take them in for a fix and it works, let us now.
Buy new ones. And I would suggest the slip on ones. They stay on just as well and seem to last longer. I have said buh-bye to the clear ones with straps; once the ankle straps break, they are useless.
And just an extra tip: Use a hair dryer to soften the plastic on a new pair of the slip on clear shoes, put your foot in and wait for the plastic to cool, that way they are ready for your foot when you work!![]()
or you can just slice both of the straps off at the base w/a razor... At least until you can get another pair of heels.

I learned the hard way not to buy clear shoes IF they also have clear ankle straps. I love clear shoes though, so now I look for the ones that have the silver straps instead of clear.

Well, I took them to the shoe maker. He is going to TRY to take of the reamains of the broken strap and sew it back on. If it does not work, I will probably just cut off the straps and use them for slip ons. Or else garter them in place. I will definitely look for the silver ankle straps in the future.

Shoes only last a certain amount of time. You have to replace them. But you can cut off the ankle strap and just wear them as pumps.

Well yea he might be able to fix the strap..only thing that makes it hard it that the bottom of the shoe where you put your foot is in the way of gluing it back down and that plastic straps are hard to fix anyway.
Either that...but you can find some good cheap shoes at Snaz75.com they have cheap shipping prices too.

Walk around in those "strapless" shoes at home first, though. The vamp of the shoe on the ones with the straps are a little different than the ones that come without them. So, make sure you can actually wear them without the straps before hi-ho'ing it to work. I did the same thing with one of my clears, and it didn't work well. I gartered my shoes on.And, you still have to be careful...they don't stay on like they are strapped on that way, either.
The time and effort expended to try to fix a busted dance shoe is not worth it, compared to shelling out fifty to eighty for a nice shiny new pair. You also have to consider the risks of wearing creaky or jerry-rigged shoes- is it worth a busted ankle or wrist if you fall, and have to take time off of work?
Could someone explain what 'gartering' your shoes is b/c i'm totally lost. thanks

To garter your shoes on, you jsut take a garter, slide it around your ankle with the shoe already on, twist it once, and slide the loop over your toe. Like a figure 8. Some dancers twist the gardter behind thier heel and then loop it down around the heel of the shoe. There are a couple other variations on this, but it always involves twisting the garter so it forms a figure 8 around your ankle or foot and the shoe.
The idea is, it makes your shoes feel more stable and less likely to twist or shoot out from under you.

I did this once out of necessity. It works as a short term fix, but since these shoes were meant to be worn with ankle straps, they have a tendancy to fly off while doing leg/floor work.Originally Posted by Nina

Good news! I took the shoes to the shoemaker, and he carefully sewed the strap back together, good as new! I can't even tell the difference! He charged me $5 to repair a $30 pair of shoes, I am so happy!

that's awesome, better than buying new ones!!
If everything you try is a sure thing, you aren't taking enough risks. If you never fail, you put a limit on the degree to which you can succeed. In short, the only way to win big is to risk losing

Go to E-bay enter clear cone heels for search - they have some cool styles and depending on size the price is $20. - $40 per pair , happy shopping .![]()
Hey, congrats. I never would have guessed they'd be repairable. Hmm. Not bad at all. Maybe I should not have thrown mine away.

Don't get your hopes up Colleen... the same thing happened to me and the shoes broke again, first one foot, the other. I tried glueing them myself, the shoemaker did, and the manger glued them with cement glue... NO GO!!
