So many great comments about Sin City made me think it might be nice to hear other's recommendations for great Film Noir flicks. For anyone not familiar, those were films made in the 1940s and 1950s that were very dark, both visually and morally. The women all kicked ass, then men all got their asses kicked, and in the end no one won (obviously the inspiration for Sin City)
Double Indemnity - Love triangle, brilliant murder plot, and a woman slightly more evil than Satan - what more could you want?
Big Sleep - for anyone not familiar with why Bogart is a legend, this is why - there's never been a bad ass like this. Forget Casablanca, here he's funny but sad, hard but vulnerable, smart but always ending up looking stupid. Every woman he meets peels off layers of good and evil until you don't know which end is up. And the dialogue is so great you'll keep rewinding to hear it again.
Out of the Past - An ex-con who just can't get straight with the world. The women here only come in two flavors: lace and stilletto.
anyone else have favs??
