Default Looking for other high speed internet connections

Comcast finally drove me to my breaking point the other day. So I told them to cancel my service ! I have had so many things go wrong with my high speed cable connection. Being kicked off, my comp freezing, you name. Plus since I am the only person in my area that has a cable internet connection the techs take their sweet time getting out to fix any problems.
The last straw was when I sat here all day waiting for someone to show up, only to be stood up ! WTF !! I pay $50 plus taxes for this type of service so I expect for them to be on top of their sh*t !

Anyway, I found an old AOL cd and decided to use it for a couple of days until I find something better. I forgot how slllooooooooowwwww dial-up can be. Gesh ! Someone please help, I need to find a faster connection with better customer service.
    Thanks in advance..

Go to your phone company's website and look for DSL options. There's usually a page where you can enter your phone number and they'll tell you if DSL service is available in your area. DSL also generally runs about $20 less than Comcast.

That said, cable modem connections don't generally cause freezing in your system, or slow system performance--that's more indicative of spyware, which you can kill for free with the trial version of Webroot's SpySweeper 3.5 and then you can keep your system spyware free with Mozilla's Firefox browser.

    Best of luck.

I don't know where the Gayborhood is located.

Dosen't your local telephone co. offer a DSL service.
I have Verizon, they furnished the DSL modem, Filters for telephones in the house, and cables, you will have to an ethernet card in your computer.
I started off at $39.95 a month, last month they offered it at $27.95 with a one year commitment, the speed is terrific and the extras are great.

I have SBC DSL, and haven't had a lick of trouble with it for years. Last month, in fact, they offered to double the speed--to 1.4 Mbit/sec. download--if I switched to them for long distance. I took them up on this, and I'm now enjoying somewhat faster delivery of Web porn and other essential content.

I used to have Bellsouth DSL, it was the best in my opinion. I believe I have comcast now and it's not nearly as good.

Not sure where you're located, but SBC offers unlimited local and long distance phone bundled with DSL for $70 ---- I don't have a home phone (use my cell) so it didn't work for me but I got my mom hooked up on it. Now she pays less for DSL than she was paying for AOL dial-up.

I agree CA though, I think it sounds like a computer problem. If you need step-by-step on how to debug it I'm sure CA or I would be happy to detail it

Thanks guys..Yes I have had my share of spyware, even hackers. But I am always running something to delete it. I have also run the recovery disc several times and started from scratch.
My girlfriend has SBC DSL and I am not completely pleased with her service. So I don't think I'll be going that route. Comcast has updated the system in my area several times but, there is still so many problems. I just don't see it being worth the amount of money I was paying to go through the hastle. My service was out for 2 weeks at one time.
But since most of my neighbors within a 5 mile radius have either dial-up or SBC, Comcast is never in a big hurry to make their service worth the price.
Everytime I have complained I was told "well, we are new to the area" WTF !
I'm gong to try using that line w/ my custys and see how far I get !

In many areas where DSL is offered, it may be offered by several different companies but the actual wiring etc usually belongs to the local telco, here in my area it's Bellsouth. So no matter who you buy service from it's going to run on Bellsouth's wiring. DSL is problematic in many areas, due to the need to be within 3 miles of a central switch, as well as the quality of wiring between you and the switch. Basically, it can work great, or it can be a POS. Even if your phone number is "pre-approved" to qualify for DSL, it can still not work.
