If you are putting the self-tanner on, you cannot take a shower for about 6 hours. I like to put the tanner on in the evening and then take a shower the next morning. A lot of self-tanners have "guide" color (so you can make sure you are covered) and that will wash off in the shower. Other than that, my tanner lasts for about a week. It does slowly fade/wash out...but it should last for more than a day.

yup, i have a coppertone sunless tanner and another one that i can't remember the brand of rightnow, but if you shower too soon after applying it, then it will all wash off. I usually do about the same as venus; put on tanner after supper, let it dry before i go to bed, and shower in the morning.

You should only be washing with a washrag like once a week. I'm also careful when I dry myself with a towel to pat, not rub. This makes the tan come off very unevenly. Do your exfoliation once a week and you should be fine.

Maybe you are seeing the color guide wash away?

A lot of times I do two days in a row of tanner to get the color I want.

Mine comes off too, but I have to exfoliate daily! Some skin types just don't absorb and hold color well. I found this out when I used to get henna tatoos for bellydance shows. The stuff always faded for me quickly.

I like to do the self-tanner before bed, blow dry is into the skin, go to bed. The next day I try to hit a regular tanning bed as well to try and deepend the tan. Hope this helps!

you should never put it on right after a shower, your pores are open and your skin is too hot. Wait 30 mins to apply self tanner when you have been in a pool, the shower, or bathtub. Don't do anything that will make you sweat for a few hours, or those areas will wash off or will be very streaky and discolored. You should only put regular lotion or body butter on right after you get out of the shower.

I think your skin isn't absorbing it properly b/c it is too dry by the time you get out of the shower and towel off. I've never had problems with self-tanner and my routine is to shower, lather in Palmer's Cocoa Butter with Viatamin E, let it soak in, then apply Neutrogena Self-Tanner.

It works well for me, hopefully you can find a system that works for you too.

If your tanner has a bronzer, it may just be the bronze washing off. Some brands have an instant bronzer 'glow' right out of the bottle so you can see where you have applied and get that instant gratification. The bronzer is not the same thing as the tanner, which takes a few hours to develop and should not wash off in a single shower.

I never thought of blowdrying. Great idea I use L'Oreal Sublime Lotion before bed. I usually only wait 5 min. and then wear loose jammies to bed. It never streaks and seems fine, but I notice better reults if I walk around naked for 20 mins. I'm so lazy and it's too cold.

    I'll try blow drying tonight!!
