Default Songs that bring back memories....

"Call Me" by Blondie- I had the song intro drum fill and guitar riff as the first few seconds of my voicemail. My friend L. left an irate message that he "hate, hate, hated it!" and I grudgingly changed it. I thought it was a great idea though.
"(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear" by Blondie- I cringe in embarrassment when think of shyly telling my ex I made a mix tape for him with this tune on it. Little did I know he was going to dump me like a sack of trash soon after. Uh, guess we were on different pages.....
"High Enough" by Damn Yankees- in my brain, the memory of this song is attached to the smell of fresh wall paint, the sight of sunlight coming through a window, and the taste of Lemonheads candy. The brain works in strange ways.
Any sentimental faves you wanna share?

"Somebody Told Me" by the Killers- I blush when I hear this tune- the first time I heard it I was being driven through windy Puerto Rican campo country, and thought it was fabulously trashy. (The song, not the backcountry.) The next time, well, a nice young man was talking about the song, while we were waiting for second winds. Ahem. I was being fabulously trashy right then.
"Oh Yeah" by Roxy Music. The best feeling sorry for yourself brokenhearted tune ever. "There's a band playing on the radio/ and it's drowning the sound of my tears."

There is a great scene in a movie, I forget the name, where they are playing a sappy, depressing Imissyousomuchkind of love song on this guy's car radio (he has just broken up with his girl), and he rips the whole radio out and tosses it through the window.

"Mar Vista Bus Stop" by Trotsky Icepick (w/ DJ Bonebreak on Marimba) I curled up in my car and cried alone when I heard this tune on a lonely night, sleeping on the freeway overpass because I was too tired to drive home......I was thinking of a man I had a stone-soul crush on and I never had a prayer of being with him because I was dumb young ghetto trash and he was older, better educated and uh, my boss. Imagine my shock when I ran into him in the Carribean a few years later. At his, uh, engagement party at the local bar. No kidding. Cake, fiancee, co-workers and all. He was drinking Coors Light. I was in shock.

I think it's cute what you did with the Blondie songs! Blondie is a fave of mine too, and in fact "Heart of glass" was what turned my voracious musical appetite / lust ON! So that song is abig one for me.

Also, "Sex", by Berlin, for reasons that I can't begin to describe.

This has got to be the best song from the 80's, especially for stripclubs...

I still cringe when I hear the rip-off 'Bitch" song by Meredith Brooks...

Second to that, Dj. I have a cute anecdote about "Sex." I played it and a bouncer I dated had a proud little smile on his face, like, Heh, she's not kidding! 'Cause I know!

"Take Me Home Tonight" by Eddie Money. I don't know why, but I LOVED that song when I was a little girl. To this day I light up if I hear it on the radio.

It seems like every important moment in my life has been defined by some song:

"Everybody wants to rule the world" by Tears for Fears--When I came in 2nd (missing 1st by a mere 2 points) in a national tournament

"Can't hold back" by Survivor--THe raw emotion and sexual tension of my first realtionship.

"With a little help from my friends" by the Beetles. The boy who grew up to be my current husband and I used to ride around in his '66 Mustang convertable singing this and every other song on Sgt. Pepper. I probably still know all the chorouses to all those songs.

"White Wedding" "Rebel Yell" and "Money, Money (sp?) by Billy Idol--Danced to all these at youth group mixers

"Leaving on a Jet Plane" I used to hear this one evry time one of my friends left for the military, and hummed it to myself as I boarded the plane for basic training

"Heartache tonight" By the Eagles--When I knew the man I was seeing and falling in love with was going to dump me after we came back from the party we were at

"Sex" by Berlin--an apt description of the next 3 years after aforementioned man realized his mistake.

"Living on a prayer" by Bon Jovi--my first year in Chicago after the Army--broke and scared

"Head over feet" by alanis morriset--The way I felt falling in love with my fiance Rick

"Best of Times" by Strictnine, a local chicago band (not to be confused with the other local band Styx, who relaeased a song by the same name some years earlier). The bassist was my late fiance's brother. This song always reminds me of going to see Strictnine play at local bars and also of all the other bands Rick and I went to photograph in action.

"For crying out loud" by meatloaf--pretty much sums up my realtionship with aforementioned faince

"Paradise by the dashboard light" by meatloaf and "Ballroom Blitz" by Sweet--my 2 favorite Karoke songs when I was dating my husband.

"Patience" by GNR (I think?) My husband used to sing this to me when I was grieving for Rick, and when we were first going out. It was our first dance at our wedding

"The search is over" by survivor--I took a microphone and sang a solo for Ted after the first dance at the wedding

"In his presence and protection" by Edens Bridge--I sing this to my son as a lulaby. I love it for the lyric "You are a gift of heaven/You have changed my life so much/And I thank God for you."

"Another day in Paradise" a country song by a male vacalist, I have no idea who, but describes my day-to-day life with my husband and kid perfectly.
