Default Shall I? May I? or Can I?

So I usually ask "may I take you for a dance....?" But I feel like these days I need something more assertive like "shall I take you for a dance (now)....?"

These are just examples but has anyone noticed the effect either of these words have and which approach works best for them?

hmm yeah, I know what you mean. I try not to use "may I", as it sounds too submissive. But "can I" is too rude, and "shall I" is too formal.

When leaving a custy that I just prepped for later, I'll say something like "you will let me know when you're ready for that dance, *uplift of voice at the end*" so it sounds like a question but it's really a statement. At least half of the time they say "how about right now?" and 9 out of 10 of the remaining get a dance the next time I come to talk to them.

I think IACali those are great suggestions. Those also show how voice projection can make or break a sale.

I'm a "shall" person. It sounds polite. Sneaky it is that is also sounds like a command. Those in charge seem to use it more often, like when they are disguising an order. "May" seems subservient, like you are intruding. "Can" is an error in grammar.

I wouldn't worry so much about the exact words you're using so much as how you say them; if you're all excited and happy when you say, "Hey, you look like you're ready to head into the back for some dances," it's going to be more effective.

I usually ask "so your are having a pretty good time tonight"? they usually respond with a yes, so then I ask "would you like to have an even better time"? This is a "yes" question, and most people can't say no to having a better time.

    Short lines?

I sometimes say '' How about you and I go private?'' or ''You want to take me private?'' with a naughty smirk.

I know a girl who says ''Want to take me for a fucking sexy lapdance?'' in a sexy Hungarian accent. Haha! Cracks me up every time I hear that and it totally works for her!!

Krys you would not have to say anything to me !

But for the rest of the wonderful dancers out there, I like it when you don't ask with words. Give me that "look" and hop on my lap. But I'm easy LOL!
