    Default Ugh, Diets

Ok, we've got Aktins, South Beach, The Zone, Jenny Craig, LA Weight Loss, and Weight Watchers and dozens of others. What I would like to know is whats a good, healthy, common sense way to loose weight with out having to spend money to have someone tell you how to eat or have to follow a book by the letter. Whether it's 20lbs. or 5lbs. Lets hear whats worked for you.

It's all about lifestyle. I have changed my lifestyle to form new eating habits. My new habits are low fat and lower calorie. I watch my portions, I exercise and I don't deprive my body. If I have a craving for something like ice cream, I comprimise and have an 98% fat free icecream sandwich. I used to sit down and have a pint of Hauge Daz (SP). I also do what it takes for me to feel comfortable and to reach my goals for my body type. I don't eat or exercise like I have a body building competition in a week, because it's unnecessary. You just have to figure out what your body needs and what you want and go from there.
    Good Luck and best wishes.

    I second the lifestyle comment.

I recently lost a lot of weight, and it wasn't that I needed to lose any, I just did and couldn't figure out why.

I was taking Tonalin CLA (do a search for this, a few subjects on this product which is great).

I'm 5'7 and I used to weigh between 145-150 pounds, I am now around 120ish to 125 give or take a few.

I no longer eat fast food. Period. At all. EVER.

I stopped eating out. I started cooking at home, making more meals at home meant more monitoring of what was going into my body.

I began running, and I run five miles a day four days a week.

At first, I didn't see a whole lot of progress, then about four months into this pattern, I dropped 10 pounds over night, then another 5 then another 5 until I reached where I am now.

I have begun eating a little bit more in a laxed mode simply because on my 5'7 frame, 120 something is a bit too thin.

I dont' believe in diets, I believe in lifestyle changes.

Yes, I dont agree w/ diets b/c once youve lost the wieght you want to go back to your old eating habits.
I recently lost 17lbs! It was REALLY hard in the beginning..I wanted to stuff Carls Jr burgers in my mouth for my reward for a good day.
I eat what I want now....I just eat a lower calorie/fat free version or less sodium version of whatever it is.
If I do have a craving for something nasty..Ill eat half and throw the rest away or have a tiny bit of it. I put my chocolate pretzels really really high up from me so I can only eat 2-3 at a time thats IF I wanna get them down.
I reward myself after big workout weeks...its like you have something you look forward too. I buy new gym clothes, get that cute bag, or get a spa treatment. Id rather spend money on that then on some diet program.
Spend your money where it counts ..for instance I buy a really good piece of meat to eat or organic food.

Its hard ...but even before I started working out I fixed my diet.

Weight Watchers is awesome. It teaches you portion control and a balanced diet. It also promotes exercise and long-term results (if you reach your goal weight, you are a "lifetime" member and can come to meetings once a month for free.)

I did it back in Aug 2001 and liked it a lot. It kept me honest and motivated for the long term. It's cheap too....like $10/week

Start off with something very simple and small. For instance start drinking ONLY water and see where that gets you. Depending on your habits/size/physique you could probably drop as much as 5 lbs by just drinking a sufficient amount of water and not intaking worthless calories most people do. (I have to admit to drinking a TON of coke if I'm working at a restraunt. At 200+ cal/glass I don't understand what I'm thinking!)

After you get acustomed to that, cut DOWN on red/fatty meats or fried foods. There are foods that you just KNOW aren't good for you. Try to eliminate those one every two weeks and you'll be rapidly moving toward your goal.

I run 5 times a week for 40 min,do some resistance training, work 4 nights a week in a row.Cardio training always makes your metabolism faster.Definitely cut junk food, especially the chips and non-diet sodas.I've also stopped drinking fruit juice, since it's loaded with sugar, now drink tomato/vegetable juice. For me also works best not eating at work or after work.Eating late at night will cause weight gain in many cases (always in mine).Other than that,I don't really follow any special diets, since it can be really hard to do.

One joke goes the three best diet aids are: drugs, depression and disease. Any cheerier weight loss is going to take a while.
I take Tonalin CLA and it's only been a couple months.......I look as if I can fade into the wall. I fit into my old high school clothes. Do read all the Tonalin threads on here because some brands work better than others- Swanson's Health Products Tonalin is low-priced and works way better than you'll imagine. Tonalin is considered a weight lifter's supplement. It does work differently for some people. Give it a shot.
With food, out of sight, out of mind. Did you know the fast food on TV commericals is jokingly called "food porn"? The advertising is designed to get you to the resturant and buy an overpriced wad of fat and meat filler wrapped in a soul-less paper wrapper. And the food doesn't look like that in real life. So...once you remind yourself not to be suggestible, go to the grocery store with a list of healthy food you WILL eat, and buy it. Prepare it at home. Even put it in little Tupperware tubs and take it with you when you go.
And stay out of the kitchen. Away from the fridge.
Drink lotsa water, become a champ at filling up with liquid. Tea, lemonaide, Crystal Light, soy milk are all your friend. On the same token, learn how to do soup and salad. Pretty soon your stomach will shrink and you'll need less food to feel full.

I have been using the system Heaven777 described, (http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/showthread.php?t=47756) and I have lost 9 lbs in about 3 weeks. Also Toanlin--it's great stuff!

If you like to cook, the Weight Watchers cookbooks have lots of easy recepies and the calorie count and food exchanges are listed next to each recepie.

If you are looking for a low-carb diet, the Curves diet is pretty easy to live with, even for me, and I am a vegetarian!

Thank you so much ladies. I have to admit I have never encountered such nice, supportive, cool group of women as all of you. I picked up some Tonalin CLA last night and started taking it today. Now the bottle saids take one before meals but most of you have been saying that you take two and I'm more inclined to listen to you ladies. Thank you for the many dieting tips/advice. I know I need to up my activity level (I'm thinking about taking Jazzercise classes). I also need to control my snacking when I get home. During the day I'm good. But when I get home and start making dinner I start munching and then have dinner on top of that and then feel terrible at the end of the night, as if all my efforts during the day just went flying out the window. But now that I have you ladies behind me, I think I'm on my way to a happier, slimmer, healthier me.

When you stay away from bad food, eating them again after a while is unappealing. Losing weight and keeping it off involves permanent lifestyle changes. The hard part is getting into it, but once you are there, you will enjoy it and the bad food won't be as much a temptation.

Coincidentally, I just bought a back of cookies today. I though I was craving something 'naughty'. After a few nibbles, the cookies are back in my bag. I don't have the desire to eat them (I would have scoffed the whole lot at one point). I just don't dig them the same way anymore.

I find that the more I cook all my own food and eat organic, the less pre-packaged mass-produced food appeals to me. I used to love the Grandma's soft cookies, but now they taste a little bit like plastic to me. Malibu is right, once you get used to eating healthy, the poorer choices jsut don't appeal to you any more.
