    DUI (Dancing under the influence)

    Hi Ladies,

I've been thinking about getting into exotic dancing since I was about 18. I even purchased instructional videos on how to dance, but I never pursued it realistically. I'm 23 now, and the desire to try it is still there.

On a regular basis, I'm a bit conservative and maybe a little shy. I live in Miami, so I've gone to a few clubs with friends, and I like the atmosphere at most of the places I've been.

The thing with me is that I don't think I'd feel totally comfortable unless I've had a drink or two. I do have some weight to loose (my goal is to get down to 120-125). I feel that when I get to a point where I'm mostly content with my body, that will give me more confidence, but what do you ladies think about drinking on the job? Is that a no-no? Do any of the clubs you work @ encourage/prohibit drinking while your working? Of course I don't mean "run to the bathroom" drunk, but just a little tipsy (1-2 drinks).

Thanks in advance for your advise,
    Barbie

One or two drinks is OK.If you need to get sh*tfaced in order to perform, then this job ain't for you.In clubs that serve alcohol, there are no rules against dancers drinking. They just don't want you becoming three sheets in the wind.

    Welcome to SW,by the way.

Personally I don't advise drinking at work. (But that's mostly because I get really clutzy...that's another story) But I must agree with onlythebest on this one. "One or two drinks is OK.If you need to get sh*tfaced in order to perform, then this job ain't for you."

I don't advise drinking until toxication either.. accidents happen. Plus, I've seen girls drop dead drunk on stage that just make asses of themselves because they can't control their alcohol..

I've always had a good head on my shoulders about drinking, I'd drink but never in excess, and if I did drink a bit too much, to where I'd question whether I could realistically get up on stage and dance and actually do a good stage show, I'd tip the DJ a $20 and say, "Take me off the next two sets please" and I'd just do private dances and drink water until I felt better.

No need to embarrass yourself by performing drunk. However, a few drinks to loosen you up is different, just don't keep drinking until intoxication.

Welcome to SW! You'll find lots of great stuff here.

I've seen girls drop on the stage, drop off from the pole, and puke on customers. If I drink it's something not too strong and 2 drinks max.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

i am a very shy person too. I did my first couple days completely sober. Honestly, you prob wont be as scared when you get up there as you think. But make sure you limit yourself to about two drinks just to relax yourself if you have to drink....good luck

Alcohol as a way to loosen up is a bad idea. In the Dancer wealth classes he teaches to NOT drink at work.

You've got to get comfortable with dancing as a job or career. If you worked as a real estate or car salesperson would you need a drink to talk to a prospective customer?

I feel a drink here and there is ok, but not to ease your comfort level. You have to program your mind that the sexual aspect of this job is no big deal, and then your mannerisms and talk will be natural.

Addictions develop to people who need to be in a mind altered state to function.
