    Angry abc morning news

This moring at like 300 i was watching the early news on abc and they had this report on strip clubs done buy elizbeth vargos. It made me so mad they make stripping look like some horriable job that no one should be subject to. They interview girls at clubs and make them look desprate for money so stripping is what they have to resort to. It made me so mad i could scream, I wish the would interviewed me i would of told them staright out i dance for the love of dancing. I love my custumes and my stage sets. I am not despate for money and i don't have a drug problem i just want to be a dancer. I think it makes the soccor mommies of america somehow feel better for being so dull. THey sit there and watch that and think we all got some problems and we are some how degrading ourselfs. Tonight is part 2 of this journlistic masterpeice gee i can't wait.

I've said it a million times: Leave us strippers alone and let us do our jobs. Many strippers ARE trapped, but why does it matter? It doesn't. Whether I am a chemical engineer or socio-trash, being a good dancer is what matters at the end of the shift. It's no one's business who we are when we go to the grocery store. We don't hand out our phone numbers for a reason.

Anything done by a so-called "news" show like 20/20 should be taken with less than a grain of salt. It's too bad they missed the real story, which is that many of us have chosen this line of work. And what's with the patronizing, "Oh, poor little things, sometimes they don't make any money on their shift." Well, there are plenty of working stiffs who don't necessarily have anything to show at the end of the day . . . car salespeople, real estate agents, I could go on. As with any job, it depends on luck and skill.

Oh yeah, and for those of you unfamiliar with Kamala Harris, who is, sadly, the San Francisco D.A., she is a twit of the highest order. She ran for office on the platform that she'd be tougher on criminals than the previous D.A., then turns around and refuses to seek the death penalty for a cop killer (I don't personally believe in the death penalty, but she is not in office to make up her own little rules!).

Anyway, if she'd stepped one foot into an SF club, she'd know that most girls are NOT prostitutes, and couldn't be even if they wanted to, because of the many cameras in the various VIP rooms. Also, she should know that the clubs strictly enforce the no-topless-within-6-feet-of-the-customer rule, since they could lose their liquor license pronto if the rule was broken. Sheesh!

She refused to prosecute those dancers arrested for prostitution in a raid. Was that so bad? From her interview, it seems that she is concerned about girls having to resort to prostitution because the clubs make housefees so high and put in private booths. To me, it seemed pretty obvious that she was talking about a few certain San Fran clubs, not the North Beach clubs with bikini dances. Know what I mean?

This is a good thing, this publicity. I know it looks like it makes dancing look like an evil profession, but in the end it will cause young women to think twice before embarking in a career that they have no business being in. It will also make the the customers of these clubs more sympathetic to the dancers who work there, and feel trapped (read bigger tips) or the guys who just want to exploit women will come in more if they feel that prostitution is a possibility, and will spend $$ for a while to find out for sure.

And lets be realistic here, it is San Fran! This city is as notiourius as Huston for have a lot of extras available, if not full service.

Now you will never see a strip club advertise on national television, but having a 15 minute news expose on a national cable channel can do wonders for the business. Customers will come in, reguardless of what some news story says, and maybe someone who hasn't been in for a while will see the story and think "hey, I wonder what those girls Candy and Lexus are up to these days?" and pop in to what was once his favorite hangout.

Sorry the story upset you, but it really is a good thing!

That was my problem with the HBO show G-String divas..It just made the industry look bad. On the flip side there was an inncident in Philly some 6is years ago where (LONG story short) a customer killed his wife for insurance money so he could keep seeing a certian dancer, and it was BLASTED all 0over the media. A local morning tv show came to our club with a camera crew to do a "whaqt realy happens in a strip club" kinda show. What we didnt know is they brought 20 females with them to give there review of what they thought. SOMEHOW it came off as a possitive show so , every now and then, the media can do good things for our biz.

yes i do belive the media can have postive effects i just don't why they always use the dark imagine of clear heals and a pole with some sort of strange music in the back ground some of it can be sterotypical.

I personally thought the 20/20 story was a good thing. It is the only *news* story I've seen that even attempted to portray what we do in a positive light. And although there may have been some stretches in some of the things that were said, I thought overall it did a pretty decent job of disuading the widely held stereotype of the drugged-up slut stripper image.

I currently work in SF, and have worked in most of the topless bars. This is not true, sorry. Lapdances are still given topless in a VERY close proximity even while booze is being served. Not that I think there is anything wrong with that, I've never had a problem with a customer getting out of hand. Remember, this is San Francisco not Hawaii. No such thing as 6 even 4 foot rules here! This rule may apply to stage of course, but I'm assuming you mean private dances?

I don't recall hearing her say that most girls WERE prostitutes. I remember her saying that she felt that the high stage fees, tip-outs, and the lucrative monetary gain of the private rooms worried her in the stance that it could tempt more girls to get into prostitution in order to make money. There were several dancers arrested for prostitution and she refused to charge them simply because she feels that it's mostly the clubs fault, in the first place.

I don't know about anyone else...but I'd prefer that we had MORE DA's like her than most of the ones who are gung-ho for charging people and pretending that the clubs never contribute to the downfall.

When I saw the 20/20 thing I didn't get a bad impression about the DA either because it seemed like she wasn't that tough on the girls that did get arrested for prostitution. At least the way I perceived it she didn't seem all that bad.

there are 6 foot rules at topless bars in SF, managers usually don't enforce them though.
