    Default black to blonde

I know it's bad and most hairdressers would recommend against it, but I miss having blonde hair and want to go back to a very light blonde. The thing is my hair is blue black and I know my hair is going to endure alot of pain. Does anyone have any recommendations to help it develop faster and/or damage less?

Go to a really good stylist (although they might recommend against it, at least if you go to a good colorist it will be in way better shape than if you try to do it yourself) and be prepared to spend a lot of money and go back several times. Your hair is going to feel some pain; no two ways about that. My suggestion is to go as short as you comfortably can. And hell, it's hair, it grows back.

I have naturally dark hair. My stylist told me that it will take about a year to get my hair to blonde. Right now it's blondish and she did it by first highlighting it with Volume 20 which isn't as harsh as Volume 40. It's been a gradual process. That's what you want to do. You don't want to do it in one appointment because it may ruin the cuticles of your hair. Anyway hope this helps!

We had to do mine in stages. We started highlighting more and more and now 6 months later it is light brown with blonde highlights. Next time it should go blonde. I also had to cut my near waist length hair to mid-back. A lot of your success of failure will be decided on what dyes you used in your hair and what other processes had been done to it. I used to use Feria on my hair and you can see the line of demarcation where that dye was used as opposed to the Redken I switched to later (that came out no problem).

I went from dyed dark auburny red to very very blonde. My first visit was 7 hours and a three-part bleaching process. My scalp was soooo pissed at me. I'm a huge wimp, but jeeeeeezus, the BURN!! They completely stripped my hair and then put on a basic blonde and then foiled some highlights in. My hair was still a little orangey, like strawberry blonde.

I went back a month later and they foiled me again, with a better blonde to counteract the brassiness left over from my red.

Cut it as short as you can accept, pay the extra money for the really good nourishing shampoos and conditioners (I use Kerastase - the masque is AMAZING). Also, on a day when you're just sitting around the house, coat your hair (not near the scalp though) with olive oil, wrap up in saran wrap, and let it marinate for an afternoon. You'll have to rinse forever to get it out, but it's worth it. Use chilly water to rinse, and don't try to get it all out in one rinse session, you'll drive yourself crazy. Rinse as well as you can, go watch some C.S.I., then jump back in the shower and rinse again.

I'm going to beg you to consider wearing a wig when you have a craving for blonde....my hair is dark brown/ almost black, and highlighting has made it brittle and scary.
(I love the look of blue-black hair, I used to dye my dark brown to blue-black for the sheen. Just my 2 cents.)

I'm having a similar problem, except I want to go from red- brown to a dark blond, which sounds like it might be easier, but I was a very bright red from feria only a month ago. In the past trying to go blond over red never worked out, and I always had to grow my hair out. This time however, my hair is really long, and I'd like to keep it that way or only compromise a little. I'm done with chin length cuts. I wish I never dyed my hair at all.

Agreed ^^^^. I have just taken my hair (by myself) from very very blonde to dark dark brown. (My avatar is my hair, and how it looks after 2 treatments)

What i will do is add a few light strands around the face and a few other places. Easy to do with a strong bleaching kit made to go over black hair, i.e. Loreal.

But better to have a few fried strands (in case of breakage) than a whole head. Also if you feel better blonde, add many light strands around the face, and less in the back.

It works, but you have to follow directions, and condition condition, while washing the hair less as well. I have found that a light glossing serum is now my best friend!!! My hair is past my ass once again, and i use MANY treatments.....Olive oil is THE BEST by far, once a week.

    Good luck,
    Pamela

I have naturally chestnut/chocolate brown hair and went blonde several years ago. While the color looked ok...my hair was FRIED! The only way I got rid of it was going back to my natural color and getting my hair cut every month to get rid of the bad hair. I loved the blonde look, but it's too much for my hair...

That being said...you may want to consider lightening your hair in shades over the course of a few months. It'll be easier on your hair and then you can do massive conditioning in between colors. So, go from blue/black to a brownish (or whatever the next shade or two down from the black hair is) then go to a more carmely blonde, go lighter and just keep lightening until you get to the color you want.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!!
