    Default I want long hair!

I dont how this works but Ive heard about it somewhere......

I want long hair and my hair just gets curly after being on stage and I constantly have to touch up by flat ironing it all the time. After awhile my hair is stressed even after deep conditioners. So, I was thinking of getting exstentions. Where they braid your hair to your head and weave the hair in??
I cant/wont get reguar exstentions b/c my hair is curly...I dont need to end up with 1/2 curly and 1/2 straight hair. Has anyone done this style of exstentions? I would love to hear some comments on it like if it looks fake, how do you take care of the fake hair etc...

I used to get that done years ago... Extremely bad for hair... My looked fried Plus my hair didn't hold thay well, It was sooooo much work to maintain it so I didn't look like a disaster.

Have you looked into fusions... I used to get them done a few years ago... Never had too many problems and they were relatively easy to maintain. If you buy the right hair (with the help of a stylist) you should be able to match your hairs texture.

BTW most hair now is human so you can treat it just like your own (i.e. coloring, styling etc...) The hardest thing I really had to deal with was sleeping on it for the first few days (it was kind of tight and felt weird to lay on), and picking it out after the shower.

Oh, and sometimes my scalp would be a little itchy (YUCK), but they sell sprays for that. Good luck.

TM, I did the sew-in weave (hair in braids and the weave is sewn onto the braid) and wore braids for about a year and my hair went from nape of neck length to a little bit under my shoulder. As long as it is done right, you should not have any problems. A lot of people think that they're losing a lot of their hair when they take out their braids, but really it's just an accumulation of hair that's been shed.

If you decide to get it done, make sure your stylist does NOT pull on your scalp edges or make the braids too tight. My last sew-in, the stylist did just that and the edges above my ears were damn near bald from it!!

Make sure you buy your hair from a reputable dealer. Cuticle human hair is the best (His and Hers.com sell it reasonably) but is very expensive. Your local Sally's or other Beauty supply shop has quality hair, but doesn't last very long (maybe 5-6 weeks tops). Provided you buy good-quality hair that matches your hairtype (silky for naturally straight hair, yaki for naturally kinky hair) and your stylist knows what s/he is doing, it won't look fake.

You might also try small (not too teeny) individual braids (use human hair) with some of the hair let loose or completely braided up. This will give you an "exotic" look Also try Surge-14 (a miracle product) combined with the Walmart pills and lotsa carrot juice. I'm transitioning right now (from relaxed hair to all natural) so I've been chopping away at my hair, but all of my new growth is very thick and very healthy - that's the kind of growth we all want!! I recently reduced the amount of heat on my hair and stick to protective styles - buns, ponytails, or hats during the day and have started wearing wigs at work instead of putting heat & stress on my hair (although I'd rather wear my own hair, lol).

I would NOT recommend a fusion, just my $0.02. You are basically glueing fake hair to yours and I have witnessed the damage. Fusions are also pretty high-maintence.

One more thing - for itchy scalp, buy a tea tree spray and use a little olive oil.

Yea ...I was going to try one more thing to help me from getting frizzy hair after a stage set. The Kerastase line by Loreal...suppose to be some of the best stuff around to help frizz. Ive used it before b/c a friend let me try some and I loved it soo much. Its exspensive like $20 and up for anything.

So its either that or getting exstentions...curly hair is so hard to take care of!!!!!!

TM, have you looked into the Ouidad line, specifically for curly hair? ouidad.com. Also, from what I understand, LA is supposed to be THE area for hair extensions. Allure, the magazine, publishes different directories of beauty places, i know I saw one for hair extension places, try allure.com. Also try a bookstore, look in beauty mags, many of 'em have product/salon info. finally, lamasbeauty.com sells a "hair growth enchaning" shampoo, it's made from Chinese herbs, smell minty-great, & is a great gentle shampoo. Bella's & Amethyst's suggestions sound cool. lookfantastic.com has many hair products & custy reviews Btw, Bell, great a**!

Walmart hair pills. Lots of people comment on how beautiful they think my hair is--and they ask if it's real because it's pretty darn long. My stylist said that extensions ruin your hair, but I think there is a new technique of applying extensions that isn't so hard on your hair. They are always coming out with somethig new.

As far as keeping your curls pretty if you ever wear it curly--add some water and touch up with gel when your hair starts to frizz. My hair frizzes when I work--whether it's straight or curly because it makes me hot and sweaty. I care, but it seems like a lot of other people don't even notice it. A lot of my better nights have been frizz city. What's really weird is that once I get off from work and go home, the frizz goes away, too. I refuse to contantly flatiron my hair during shifts--I'd rather have healthy hair that frizzes rather than brittle hair that doesn't.

OOooooohhh, I have curly hair too. This is what i use and it seems to work pretty damn well. First I shampoo and condition with Redken junk (Clear moisture shampoo & conditioner, and for when I need deep conditioning I use the smooth down deep conditioner which works wonders!) When I get out I towel dry, then I apply Kiwi Blow Serum (helps detangle and keep the brush from knotting in your hair when you blow dry) and I put in a straightening gel from Mario Tricoci (local salon) it's not greasy at ALL so it keeps it pretty damn straight. I also use the new Garnier Fructis shake-effect liquid gel (little round spray bottle) too. I apply those in that order, I lift up my hair to make sure I get underneath too. then i wait about 10-15 minutes for my hair to air dry a bit so i don't fry it by blowdrying right away. When I blow dry I dry the underside first, just haphazardly blowin, no brush yet, then I dry the front parts right away, blow til it's most of the way dry, then use the brush to straighten some parts out. I like to haphazardly blow dry my whole head as f I were in a tornado or sumthin to get some volume. I blow-n-brush at the last minute or so to get most of the kink out. At this point my flat iron has been warming up (I have thick hair and since I let it air dry, it only take me about 5 minutes to blow dry, it used to be like 15-20) After i'm done blowdrying I spray some more spray gel on the ends and go to town with the flat iron. When you straighten one part, let it cool without touching it(I usually wave the brush like a fan at that part) the whole way the spray gel stuff works is it's gotta cool to set it. The garnier spray gel stuff has some new kind of wax in it that works after it's cooled. My hair stays straight all damn day and even after it's been slept on and everything! the pic is of me, after I've got it all done and stuff, I LOVE the stuff I use cuz my hair still feels soft and sleek, but it's pin straight!

^^^ ooo thanks for the straightening tip Fieryfox. Im always looking for new ways to keep my hair straight. I always get to sweaty at work and it gets wavy or curly. I would love to get exstentions but I dont think there is a good method for curly hair. Guess I will just grow my mop out.

^^Ameythyst that plan for growin long hair does sound like it could do the trick. Thanks for thr tip hun.

I've heard the hair pills work, they make it healthier so it doesn't break as easily, therefore it actually GROWS
