    Default Stealing another dancers look?

I work with a dancer who wears a business suit. She looks incredible in it. I think that out of all the outfits she has, that one is her best.

I inadvertantly am wearing something similar, purely by accident! I like to wear pretty lingerie in the club. I cover it up while walking around because I don't like to give the goods away for free, ya know.

I began wearing a nicely tailored blazer over the lingerie, taking it off only on stage and in the VIP. It was a big hit. I just bought a nicely tailored matching skirt because I want to cover up my thighs while hustling the floor.

With a rhinestone choker, the outfit looks goooooood.

I'm wondering what the other dancer is going to think. She's very sweet. Is she going to get mad? Her suit has pants and is pinestripe, while mine is solid black.

I don't want to step on her toes. What's the protocol? Remember that I've only been dancing 3 months. I don't know all the etiquette. I rely on your words of experience and thank you for it.

I know this isn't related, but could you post a pic of the outfit? I'd really like to see... if you want to remain anon, just take a pic of your bod.

Honestly I wouldnt want someone to copy "my look".

A good idea if you want to keep that business-girl type look ...modify it in some way. Such as wear a dress w/ pinstripes w/ a tye and some glasses instead of the blazer.

if it was me. id be PRETTTTYYYY slutted off at you. when its something so original, it is kinda shit to rip their idea off, and not even ask them about it first!

id ask before wearing it. check her body language to make sure shes not just saying she doesnt mind, to make you feel ok.

the other dancers might also be a bit pissed, if you steal one idea...you could steal theirs.

i dunno. depends on the girls really...

it sounds like a great idea btw.

My two cents(because i have to help break you two apart)

When a dancer forms her style, she really is working within certain well trod boundries already, alot of everything has been done before. Its hard to say who copy who.

This is how new girls learn to dance, they watch all the girls, copy the parts they like the best or think will make the most money.
This is really evident when a veteran changes clubs, they adopt many of the moves they liked and even the new name they will use from a girl they worked with before.
So the new girls copy, and the vets do to.
    Its a compliment.

    That being said.
Your a woman and know if you wear the same outfit as another girl, shit is going to hit the fan.In a dark room, its hard to tell the difference between a pent stripe and a solid color.
If you got the same color hair, that makes it even worse and verges on that movie"single white female"where the sexy fonda gets a psycho roomate.

    That being said.
Business suits on a beautiful woman is fucking sexy, next to a hoop skirt its my fav!!!!!!OMG!!!!! It screams Alpha of the species!!!!I really wish clubs could go to a business hour type dress code for the after work hour.I(m sure this would only work in downtownish kinds of clubs where most of the guys would be in suits, just off work.)
Can you imagine the visual??Freekin 1920's cotton club!!Everyone in suits! WOW!!!
Maybe this is what your club is aiming at.
Then the difference between your skirt and her pants wouldnt matter.

Its just an opinion from my dj booth when im in it.

If this entertainer has set herself apart from all the rest as a business suit, then yes your trodding on her turf in a way.(ONLY IMO,others will think differently)
Maybe a short conversation with her complimenting her departure from the norm would help.Let her know you like it so much, your going to try the same approach, just a tad different, your going with the skirt instead of the pants.
What your doing is props to her and theres not alot of drama this way.

    Best of luck.

I came up with this idea independently. My outfit is different from hers. Pants v. Skirt. Pinstripe v. Black. One button blazer v. 3 button blazer. Hair up v. Hair down. Blond v. Brunette. Curvy/busty v. Scrawy/flat. No lingerie v. Lingerie.

There are plenty of differences. What we have in common is that we are wearing business attire. That we fall under the same look worries me and how she feels.

I think I'll talk to her and ask her to tell me when she's wearing her business suit so that I don't wear my skirt suit that shift. She gets dibs because she had the look first. Would most dancers be okay with this?

I too would HAAAAAAATE it if someone copied me. I make my clothes or buy them from regular stores. I never have the wardrobe lady alter anything for me because she's been known to steal patterns, pissing off every dancer with a sewing machine.

You like hoop skirts? Really? Come to my club Monday. It's my birthday and I'm wearing a silver, knee-length, poofy, tafata dress (with a tiara of course)! I'm having a PARTY. I'm gettting CAKE.

well, the business suit look has been done for years now...I say it is okay to do something similar. If it is truly an original idea, then no, don't copy. If someone does one of the obvious looks, nurse, secretary, cop, firewoman, etc. then what are you copying? They are looks that hundreds of women have used.

I just find it annoying when dancers will wear the same outfit for months and never wear anything else. One girl has been wearing the same schoolgirl outfit on every shift she works for the last two years.

I know you'll probably hate to hear this but it's my honnest opinion. If I was that girl I'd be pissed off quite a bit, but I'd be too nice and shy to say anything usually. Ack! I'm such a pussy! But anyway, I'd be pssed.

I never thought of it that way. I know 2 other dancers with the sexy secretary outfit. Her outfit is real life clothes. Everything else she has is stripper-y. I only wear real life clothes, except for a few character costumes.

I didn't copy. I happened to have something similar to her outfit. She's going to be pissed anyway. C'est la vie.

I think she will definately notice what you are wearing. If I were you, I would ask her if it's ok first, or, only wear it on days she doesn't work. Otherwise, you are asking for a pissed off girl at you.

She's going to be upset even though I didn't copy. I pieced together an outfit, then realized that she has the same look. I'll only wear it on days she doesn't work. If we wore it at the same time, we'd both look dumb and it'd hurt both out earnings.

It's more or less her only outfit so I'd be happy to change.

I personally wont wear something that is identical or very close to something that is being worn by another girl. If its SUPER original, I wont even try to get anything near it. But lets say... when girl A has on a plaid skirt and a white work shirt, I wont do the school girl look... maybe later if she changes. Unless she's into the Twins Look. *shrugs* Some girls play up the identical thing. 2 girl dances, etc...

Bikinis seem to be the acception, save if the pattern is exactly the same.

See, I wouldn't be mad 'cause everybody somehow copies someone else sometime. Whether it's a move someone does on stage, or a style. The business look has been done for years, so I don't see how you are copying her "look". As I see it, she just copied it from somewhere else. If you feel like you have, just ask her and say you didn't mean to and tell her you will only do the look when she's not there.

you stated in the first post that you work with a dancer who wears a business suit, and that she looks incredible in it, and that out of all of her outfits that was the one you liked the most, so you admitted to already knowing she has it, but why then come back and say that "shes going to be upset even though you didn't copy" when really you did?

    1. I didn't steal it. I came up with my outfit independently, without knowing what's in her locker. I wrote "steal" and "copy" because I am certain that is how it would be perceived.
    2. I work with 100+ dancers. She and I are the only 2 with a "classy" look.
    3. I asked her to let me know what she's wearing that day so we don't look like twins.
    4. 100+ dancers and only ONE outfit of mine is similar to another's? We both should be thankful.
    5. I am thankful that she is polite and that we discussed a solution.
    6. I appreciate diplomacy.
    7. I thank everyone who has given me helpful input.

I'd be, as Mermaid says, pretty slutted off at you. (Love that phrase, btw Mermaid, I'm stealing it for my own use here in Iowa).

It's not about hers is pants, mine is skirts, line up all the differences. We all are presenting a persona while we're at work, and what you've done is hijacked her persona. A close friend and I actually have an identical outfit that we can even wear on the same night. We look soooo different that the outfit almost don't even seem to be the same, but even more important, the way we pull off the outfit as part of our persona is COMPLETELY different.

If she was selling the hot businesswoman persona, it's rude of you to undercut that with your own version of the same role.

heh slutted off is a normal term down here...just means pissed off, but now that you mention it...lmao it suits the situations we all come into being dancers

Lizette, dont think we are making bitchy comments etc, but it did seem a bit uh weird you tell us your story, then when majority voted and said it was a stink thing to do, you turned around and justified your actions for doing it anyways. no hard feelings on anyones part here.

I would be pretty irked if someone "copied" my look...I have a couple of "staple" outfits that I wear all the time--and I'm the only one really that wears PVC-ish stuff at work.

One of the other girls did actually go out and buy the EXACT same jacket. She only wore it a few times as I was somewhat of a bitch and gave her death glares when she did wear it. (Besides, I pull off the Trinity/Matrix look a hell of a lot better than the blonde did.) I think she heard through the grapevine that I was not too pleased with her...

I think I would've reacted differently, though, if she had come up to me and said, "Hey, I love the jacket that you have and bought the same one. Would you mind if I wore it tonight?" or something along that line--'cause at least then I would've known that she had at least acknowledged that she might be stepping on toes.

    Just my two cents.

Its not really something you can copyright or trademark. I could actually careless what another girl wears. I try to be as original as I can be but you can only go so far.

I think you guy's are being a bit to hard on her. Obviously, She feel's bad enough about ''stealing'' the other girls look to start a thread about it.
I don't know...I have seen so many girl copy things from other girls. I think everybody is guily of it to some degree.
How many times have you seen several girls wearing practicualy the exact same thing?

Personaly, If I really loved someone's style enough to copy it I would wait untill I switched clubs or not do it at all because I hate confrontation and drama.
