What is the optimum # of facials per time period for maximum results?

What is the optimum # of facials per time period for maximum results?
I think the standard is once a month. Varies depending on skin conditions (oily or "problem") or lifestyle...some can afford twice a month. "Maximum results" means perfect looking?
I do them at home with steam, wet towels, exfoliant, masques, heavy mouisturizer every 1-2 weeks....which is better because you can save money, tailor the facial to your needs, and your touch might be more gentle than some estheticians (!) My skin looks 5-6 years younger than it really is (heh.)
I don't go to professionals anymore because I felt I could do better at home. Just my two cents.

I agree with that madmaxine... I used to be crazy with seeing the beautician. I would go once a week at one stage, I swear they did more harm than good!!!
These days I put a light mask on after taking my make up off after work and lots of moisturiser before bed.
Once a month I do a peel or something (at home)
Seems to be doing the trick!
I have also learnt though that the best thing you can do for your skin is sleep!! I know its hard in our industry but going to bed by 11pm is optimal!!
LOL...I thought this thread was about something TOTALLY different...I'm such a perv

I was thinking the same thing... damn
I was going to post an obscene comment, and you guys had to steal my thunder, dammit!
I get facials (like the kind done by an esthetician) once a month. The other kind I get about once a week, heh heh.

^Get your minds out of the gutter guys..LOL
I try to get a facial every 6 weeks if possible. I only get extractions when absolutely needed.
What I have learned is always ask for the best person available for your type of skin and be sure to share whatever your skin concerns are.
I also vary the type of facials I get from oxygen to blueberry for optimum results. Plus I do pretty well at taking care of my skin at home with my own signature facials *wink*

As there are some wondering about the other kind of facial:
Here's how to do it!

I dont do much for face care. A good moisterizer, great face wash, and good pore unclogger is all I need.
I use Biore blackhead remover...once a week. I use Philosiphy face wash for normal skin in the big bottle. I swear by Philosiphy stuff they have great moisterizer. For moisterizer I use Loreal's daily defense or something it has SPF 15 in it. I sometimes use Benefits regular moisterizer stuff its makes my skin soft but so does this new Loreal stuff and its prolly $8 cheaper.
I never get facials...only if my skin starts freakin out w/ dryness which happens in the summer.

I'm wondering about that 11pm thing. I get enough sleep ranging from 8-10 hrs, and sometimes a nap in the afternoon, so does it matter WHEN I actually do the sleeping?Originally Posted by krys

NICE link Lizette! ha ha, at least it's not just me...
If everything you try is a sure thing, you aren't taking enough risks. If you never fail, you put a limit on the degree to which you can succeed. In short, the only way to win big is to risk losing

Lizette that link is crazy funny- I love it!!
I have to add to this because I'm a big fan of skincare- the strangest thing the estheticians did was pick at my pimples, like I'd been told not to do...and it hurt!
One of my favorite masques is lightly beaten egg yolk, the vitamins are good for breakouts, and your skin absorbs moisture from the yolk. You have to leave it on for a while, but you'll feel the difference.
The other thing is diet- if you eat right and take supplements, it will show in your skin texture. L-Glutamine, L-Lysine, and Tonalin CLA are a knockout combo to make your skin smooth and soft.
Undereye bags- Mario Badescu products seem to be popular with SWers. I always see women with cucumber slices over their eyes for undereye bags....but sometimes it's just genetic and nothing some undereye makeup wouldn't fix.
I have never had a facial. Wonder if I'm missing much? I want some botox for lines around my mouth though.![]()
Facials are the first step toward serious skin care. Proper cleanser pH, a good-quality exfoliant and regular moisturizers can make a huge difference in your appearance (and apparent age).Originally Posted by Bunny
Straight guys generally know nothing about this, and I mean nothing (I sure as hell didn't), but my agent got on my case one day, saying gym workouts and weight maintenance are great but the foundation and pancake will eventually take a toll on you if you don't take care of your skin (one of the hats I wear involves national TV appearances). There is a spa designed for men just around the corner from ABC News in Washington, with pretty much a split gay/straight clientele.
There is also a pampering aspect to facials as well as full-body massages. I've bought gift certificates for all-day spas for dancers. They are very popular.
