    Default "Auto-DJ"

My DJ gets frustrated at times and announces over the microphone "Auto-DJ", meaning you will not be allowed to pick your songs and he will play what he wants... now, I do give the guy credit because even when on Auto-DJ, he will play the song styles that he thinks you like (rap, country, rock, whatever). So I don't think he's trying to be a dick, he's just frustrated at the girls.

The Auto-DJ thing started when one certain girl kept getting very unprofessional on the stage. Since her tantrums, he has also stopped playing CDs (we have an MP3-driven database but the selection is limited and my song choices are never loaded because they're usually too rare or unrequested). Now, it's a consistent thing and nobody gets a choice anymore without slipping him some extra dough.

He has never done that to me personally, but on the other hand I'm too much of a wimp to risk having that done to me. I have been dancing to the same ol' songs that I HATE for months now because I won't open my mouth. I'll be professional and dance as though it's my favorite song in the world. On several occasions, I have written requests down and slipped it in an obvious place for him but they always go ignored.

I guess it's a minor rant and nothing really important. But I'm paying this guy $20 a night ($10 minimum but I've always double-tipped) and lately $20 is about 20% of my earnings.

I did slip the waitress $10 one night to go "Auto-Waitress" on him for a half-hour, and he laughed about that.

Anyway, how would you girls feel about this? Is this something that happens a lot? I've been at this place for years now with the same DJ, and this is a recent thing.

I've never had anything like this in particular happen to me, but if it did I'd stand up for me. I've been in simliar scenarios, though, where a dj would mess with me just because he could, and would basically (not totally, though) stiff him on a tip. You mess w/ his money and he'll mess w/ you, but, ultimately, you mess w/ a man's money and he learns his lesson. When I hear a song I don't like and I didn't reaquest it, I call him to change the song and refuse to go out; he'll usually be apologetic and I pretend tipwise nothing happened. However, if he ignores my call or is blatently ignorant, I play it out like I love the song and he isn't bothering me at all; all night if I have to. His tip will reflect this. It shouldn't be about money but relationship, but if the dj insists on playing hardball, you need to have the gall to play it back. He'll have to stop.
...and the day came, when the risk it took to remain closed in a bud became worse than the risk it took to blossom.

Stop double tipping him, especially if you are making 100$.

Some dancers can be really hard to work with, maybe he is just burned out from this. Or maybe he's lazy. At least he is trying to play the type of music he thinks you'll like.

I do know that sometimes some dancers can be too demanding. Like having only five or six songs they like, period, and freaking out if you don't have them (even if you have all the other songs by the same damned band, lol). There's a certain give and take that is necessary.

First off, stop giving him $20!! That's telling him that it's okay to "Auto-DJ". Bullshit! For $20, you should get what you want.
