    Search Low carb anyone?

Hey. Has anyone done low carb while dancing. I talked to my doctor yesterday and he gave me some weight loss pills that seem to be working as well as a diet with all meat. He tols me to stay under 500 calories a day, use lean meat only and exercise moderately. Now when I dance, I like to really put on a good show, so I do burn a lot of calories. I wanna know if you guys have done a diet like this and how did you feel after getting off stage. Holla back!

um.. are you sure it was 500 and not 1500?

500 is dangerously low and will wreak havoc on your metabolism. If your doctor suggested this, I strongly advise you to talk to another doctor.

    BTW, I'm back

Yep, I've tried a low carb diet and it didn't work with my chemical make-up. I felt pretty woozy most of the time and was always starving. Uhm....you are supposed to stay under 500 calories a day? Did you mean 1500 calories per day? I'm at 1500 calories per day and I have had a slow yet progressive weight and inches loss for the last month and a half. I can't imagine being at 500 calories a day. Let us know how it goes.

Ummm... yeah. 500 calories a day + dancing + moderate exercise = fatigue and death.

500 calories a day sounds like he is trying to kill you

Going that low will SURELY trigger the starvation response which means the body will begin to start hording fat.

I would wager the majority of weight you lose on this "diet" will be water and muscle.

I agree w/ the other posters 500 is waay low. The all meat diet will not be fun to do every single day you will get tired of it fast. The body craves variety..give your body what it needs.

I diet w/ alot of meat in it has alot of cholesterol and fat. Those are good for you but all in moderation. I strongly advise you to get a second opinion.

BTW GREAT to see you back Tampadancer!!!

Thank tiger I just been real busy with work. But the Doc did say 500, and he told me I won't really be hungry becaues of the pills. Which is true, I don't feel hungry at all. I haven't even eaten yet and its 3:00 pm. I feel fine and I am going to work out today. He said that I should lose anywhere between 10 and 15lbs this first week! Yes!

Now come on now Detroit...honestly use some common sense here. Do you REALLY think that consuming only 500 calories a day is healthy?! Girl hell no! You are just killing your body. Your body needs carbs to live off of. Imagine you are a car, with no fuel...you wont get very far right? No, because you have no fuel to burn.

How much weight are you trying to lose? How much do you weigh anyway? You dont need diet pills. I hate when people try to take the easy way out on things. Just go, workout, walk, lift weights and it will all melt off. But please dont' use those pills. Yea he may be a doctor, but IMO he isn't a very good one!

He told me to stay under 500 calories a day????? Are you trying to lose muscle mass as well because that will happen staying under 500 calories a day. Most lean meats broiled are going to be around 400 or more calories for 3-5ozs, so that's it for the day nothing else??? On 500 calories or lower a day you are setting yourself up for failure you can not taking in that many calories a day for a long period of time without causing yourself to cheat. This is like a POW diet. You have to eat/ take in nutrients or your body is going to go into starvation mode in a week or so and just hang on to fat and eat up your muscle for long sustained energy. Plus exercising heavy at this calorie intake is going cause adverese effects like light headedness, fainting, extreme fatigue etc.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

I was going to state the faster the wieght comes off the faster it will come back on.

Diet pills are ok as long as they are not used long term I think long term use they can cause kidney problems. You need minimum 1000-1200 cal/day to stay functional after that certain parts of your body will freak out. When I was 13 and starved myself...I got hairy, my hair on my head started to thin out and my skin was dry and nasty. You body will find other food sources to stay alive automaticallly.

Doing it the healthy way is soo much better for you I cant stress that enough. I did and I lost a total of 19lbs by now. Took me 3 weeks but now I have a new appreciation for my body and wont hurt it again.

This really is extreme... and when you go back to eating normally you are more than likely going ot put on all the weight you lost and a bit more.

How much do you weigh at the moment and how much in total are you hoping to lose?

Be careful, you could end up harming your body irreperably!! This person is a total QUACK and you should be smart enough to see that 15 pounds in a week is TERRIFYING! You could even DIE if you do this too long!!! Two cans of regular soda is like 500 calories...HELOOOO!
If everything you try is a sure thing, you aren't taking enough risks. If you never fail, you put a limit on the degree to which you can succeed. In short, the only way to win big is to risk losing

first of all. He gave you diet pills? I thought you had to be severely overweight to get them prescribed to you?

500 cals a day will NOT work for you! There is no way you will have the energy to work!

I'm sorry, but I really feel like this is a cry for help! I am a PEER educator at my school. We talk to men/women about the affects of eating disorders and body image issues. I am not sitting there in front of you to analyze, but from what I've been reading from you, if you dont have an ED, you are well on your way!

Losing 15lbs a week is MURDER! Your body, in a healthy state of weight loss can lose 7-10lbs..but 15lbs would be just water weight and muscles. I really want you to talk with another doctor, and please put those pills AWAY!!!

    Excellent points CK...

If you are losing anymore than 1.5lbs a week it ain't good. First you lose water weight and then you are gonna start losing lean muscle mass which you body actually uses to burn fat!!

End of the day, see a professional, stay clear from the doc, do it in a healthy way ... and do you REALLY need to be losing that much weight!

This doctor needs to be abondoned and reported. How many other persons with eating issues have stumbled upon this creep to have devistating and everlasting effects consume their being.

It would be very helpful to show us a couple of pics.... We have no idea of your body type and what you are dealing with. By soliciting us for advice from your original post and having such an over whelming response for your saftey, I think it would be clear that this diet is not traditional or even acceptable. If it was such an "IN" thing right now, it would be spread all over the news and talk shows. There are plenty of persons on this site that you can speak with about diets or eating issues you may or may not have. However, these types of topics are taken very seriously and should not be thrown about to stir controversy or concern.

500 calories a day is insane.

I used to diet like that when I was in grade school (really!) and high school. It totally destroyed my metabolism so that by the time I was 29, I could eat a couple of bagles a day (dry, no butter or cream cheese) and STILL not lose weight. And as I lost all that beautiful lean muscel massI gained wehn I was in the Army, I looked even fatter tahn before!

The following year I quit dancing, had a personal crisis, and stopped watching my diet so carefully. I gained 30 lbs in that same year! My body grabbed onto every single calorei I consumed and held on for dear life!

I have been trying for over a year to get back to my weight wehn I wqas in the Army (150 lbs and a size and it is damn neat impossible.

PLEASE do not do this to yourself!

I would really like to thank everyone for their responses. Right now I am 160, 5'5 and my measurements are 36dd-26-42. I feel that I could lose 20lbs easily and look leaner and be stronger on stage. I am confident that this could work. I went back today and have lost 7lbs already in three days. Also, with my exercise and dancing, I should be able to maintain the weight. I gained weight from having a baby for my cousin in Jan 2005. I tried doing it the "right" way but that weight is so stubborn. The baby isn't even mine, so I don't really wanna keep evidence that I had one you know. My hips and butt is my main concern. The dr. I see has a website so if anyone wants to check it out they can.

Again, good luck...trust your insticts though if you feel things start to go amiss.

Okay since his website is lacking a good CV for a M.D. I went search for his credentials. This is what I found:

"Bill Nagler, M.D., received his medical degree from the University of Michigan at Ann
Arbor. He went on to do his residency in Psychiatry at the University of California at
Davis and a Harvard Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry."

He is a psychiatrist not a bariatic or family medicine or internal m.d. If you saw him in office hopefully he took the regular baseline blood test before giving you medication. By the way what medication did he put you on? If I were you I would contact the medical board of Michigan, since from his website looks like that is where he is located, find out if he is practicing medicine in good standing.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Girl, OMG when I got your measurements I just laughed. You are the EXACT same size as me..actually your waist is even smaller than mine. If you wanna drop some weight on your hips, get ur a** on a treadmill and it will melt right off. I still DO NOT trust your "Doctor" so I will give you another plee: Please don't take those pills!!!

Oh, and your're right, alot of celebrities can lose alot of weight in a fast period of time because they hire PERSONAL TRAINERS! Go to your local gym, and talk to one of them...but please make sure they are certified.

Girl you need to wake up and open your eyes. You know your doctor is steering you in the wrong direction, or you woudln't have made this post...now would you.

Be strong girl...just learn to love yourself as much as you can! We're all here for you.

Okay, okay. I asked you for the advice as if you were doing a low carb diet before. After I finish losing my weight I will go back to eating a low carb, low fat diet diet that I have been doing before the dr. The pills are called phentemine and I am confident in the way they make me feel. You all have to walk in my shoes for just a moment here. My body is not the way that I want it to be, and even though I am more confident, especially since I joined this site, I still know there are things that I could work on. I am at the gym for 2 hrs doing spinning, step, or basic cardio with yoga and strength training. I use to be a fitness trainer so I know that this is not the "norm". But all I need is support. I know you guys are trying to help, but my mind is made up. I am going to lose this weight and maintain it. Thanks.
