    Default help! tingle lotion

i just used a tingle lotion for the first time and my skin is bright red ad blotchy and burning. the guy at the salon told me its normal and it will go away and dont shower for 30 minutes, but honestly it does not feel normal. im going to jump in the shower right now, but can anyone tell me how this is supposed to make me feel?
i was tan before i went in it.

Believe it or not, that is normal.Did you develop a base tan beforehand???You can't use that stuff if don't have a base tan first. The tingle factor in that lotion does make you red.Perhaps you should use a tingle lotion that isn't as strong. Not all tingle or reddening lotions are the same strength.

I used a strong tingle once, and had a great tan already, but I guess my skin was just too sensitive to the tingle. Since then I havent used them. But my skin was all red and blotchy and itchy when I got out of the shower from washing it off, a few hours later I think.

yep completely normal. What lotion were you using???

There are ingredients that will make your skin hot and then ingredients that will make the tingle causing your skin to turn red. Sometimes the tingle will cause a terrible itch. Usually jumping in the shower using a mild body wash is enough to get the itch, hottness, and tingle off but you still might be red for a while longer. Like OTB said hopefully you had a good base tan before trying this tingle lotion.
Heres some advice for next time you get a new tingle lotion. Always while at home and you don't have to be anywhere or do anything put a small square size sample of the lotion on your inner mid thigh and leave it there for at least 15 or more minutes. this patch test will tell what to pretty much expect for the lotion.
All tingle lotions are different one that might be mild to me might make the next person want to go screaming for the hills. Oh yeah you become can immune yourself to tingles that why alot of pro tanners will alternate an acclerator and a tingle.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

OMG,you are not supposed to use that stuff on your face!!!The skin on your face is much more sensitive than the skin on your body. The guy at the salon should have told you this.

^ Most tanning salon employees have no clue about anything. I've seen people told it was okay to put strong tingles on their faces or go into a bed for full time when they are brite white. The stupidity of tanning salon employees does not surprise me at all.
You should of patch tested the lotion at home before using it at the salon. The redness, blotchyness is all normal for tingle lotions, especially the ingredients in this lotion. The burning, itchy, blotchy skin should go away by tonight or sooner.

yeah i put it on my face not ev en thinking but then covered my face with a towel anyway like i usually do, not realizing the actual lotion will make it red.

Yea I go to hollywood tan too...I got the tingle test lotion in the blue pouch. I rubbed it on and touched my face w/ it.
OMG that was the hottest 9 min of my life!! I guess Im not good for tingle lotion.
Next time maybe try a bronzer or a lesser tingle.

Ok I'm lost...is this tingle lotion supposed to go only when you are getting a tan? What is it's purpose? I've never heard of such a thing.

The way it works is it breaks the tiny superficial capillaries to your skin, promoting better circulation, thus the UV rays can reach deeper into your skin and give you a much darker tan.The lotion will make you tingle reguardless if you are tanning or not.It does not require the UV rays to activate it.This is specifically designed for indoor tanning.

TM IMO,it is best to use a tingle and a bronzer synergistically.

TINGLING LOTIONS use the ingredient Methyl Nicotinate, to cause a skin irritation as well as a reddening of the skin during the tanning session. Tanners feel like they have tanned outdoors. It stimulates a micro-circulation to increase oxygen supply to the skin. Usually a slight redness occurs allowing you to see and feel "instant results" after your tanning session.
BRONZER LOTIONS use an ingredient DHA. The goal is to give a tanner the "Immediate Tanning Results" of a sunless tanning ingredient with the heat of the tanning bed before their tan has time to darken naturally. Bronzers should be put on evenly. Wash hands before and after applying lotion. The heat of your hands and dryness absorb a lot of the bronzer and can stain your hands too dark. Washing your hands will avoid this from happening. The heat of the tanning bed helps the bronzers develop a natural looking fast tan.
    COOLING LOTIONS
Now a new popular effect in lotions, instead of a hot tingle, tanners can have a choice for a relaxing tanning session where the lotion creates a cooling effect along with ingredients to moisturize your skin and develop and maintain your tan.

Now for someone like me and probably OTB too who get to the point that tingle and bronzer lotions alone won't work there are Combination lotions combine a bronzer with either a Tingle lotion or a Cooling lotion. A Tingling Bronzer is for tanners to see instant redness after tanning combined with immediate tanning results by evening from the Bronzing ingredients. A Cooling Bronzer avoids the overheated feeling of tanning with immediate tanning results that evening from the Bronzing ingredients to help you tan naturally.

The tingle is because it is stimulating the underneath layer of your skin... This stimulation is supposed to make you get a better tan (deeper?) faster. They sell tingle lotions with coolers in them... They seem to work really well. The reddness and blotchiness will go away within an hour or so... If you don't like the hottness of those lotions try one with just bronzers...

^ What lotion are you using OTB?

i have a cooling right now in my collection Ambrosia Dark Frost and it's probably the first true cooling lotion that has worked for me.

Muyaha, I have a rapid tan intensifier. Except the tingly sensation, what's the major difference between that and the tingle lotion?

rapid tan intensifier=acclerator. This type of formula does not have any Bronzing, Tingling or Cooling effects. They feature the most Skin Conditioning ingredients. Most new tanners should start with an acclertator tanning lotion for the best Moisturization, Magnification, and Skin Conditioning. The acclerator tanning lotion will assist your natural tanning process helping to develop your tan naturally. The Cal tan line has this nonsense marketing ploy of level 1 and level 2 acclerators, personally their level 2 acclerators have better moisturizing ingredients so you get a better tan vs. their level 1.

Ohhhh I get it now. Well I've never tanned in a booth or anything like that but I have read in magazines that it's good to exfoliate your body of dead skin cells so that you can tan evenly. So does this tingle tan like eliminate the time it would've taken for you to exfoliate?

no you still have to exfoliate. Exfoliating with a product like St. Ives Apricot Scrub can actually help you tan better. As your tan progresses, your skin actually becomes thicker, which makes it harder for the UV rays to penetrate. Exfoliating takes off the dead, dry skin so your skin doesn't reflect the UV rays and also helps to ensure a more even tan, since as our skin naturally exfoliates itself, it does so unevenly, by breaking off unevenly.

It's best to exfoliate about every 7-10 days, Some have found they need to do it more often and others less often, your skin is really the best judge.

oh, wow...this sounds so familiar. I accidentally used tingle lotion this one time. I turned all red and blotchy, really looked like a lobster. Plus my skin felt so tight afterward. Oh my it was sooo awful. I decided after that to never use tingle again.
