    Default Cracker

Ok, so my DJ at work played me this song that I loved, turns out it is called "Low" by Cracker.

I have never heard of this band in my life. Are they new/old? Do they have any other good stuff? Or even suggestions for stuff that is similar would be cool...

They've been putting out albums for about 13 years now I think.

The song low was popular when I was in Jr. High. Im 23 now so that was quite some time ago

It's a good song though...Haven't heard it in a while.

Uncle Cracker is a totally different guy. Lay off the Appalachian moonshine brother!

"Low" was huge when I was in high school, it was ubiquitous for a while...

Uncle Kracker is some dude in the Kidd Rock/Sugar Ray school of suck from a few years ago...........

The guy from Cracker is the ex-singer from Camper Van Beethoven, another silly 80's college-rock type of thingy. I don't honestly know if they're still around or not, but yeah "Low" is...i dunno... early 90's. And yeah Uncle Kracker is a totally different animal. He's Kid Rock's DJ from The Twisted Brown Trucker Band.

God, this makes me feel old. One of the first concerts I ever saw was a Camper Van Beethoven show in Austin . . . Cracker came about shortly thereafter, 1992 or so. Both of them still exist, CVB after recently reuniting. They also had their equipment stolen a few months back and are on tour with Modest Mouse.

I suppose I will never hear "Take the Skinheads Bowling" in a club.

for those who have no idea what we're talking about...here's the lyrics
    ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Every day, I wake up and pray to Jah
And he increases the number of clocks by exactly one
Everybody's comin' home for lunch these days
Last night there were skinheads on my lawn
    Take the skinheads bowling
    Take them bowling
    Take the skinheads bowling
    Take them bowling
Some people say that bowling alleys got big lanes
Some people say that bowling alleys all look the same
There's not a line that goes here that rhymes with anything
I has a dream last night, but I forget what it was
I had a dream last night about you, my friend
I had a dream--I wanted to sleep next to plastic
I had a dream--I wanted to lick your knees
    I had a dream--it was about nothing

Well, Camper Van Beethoven used to jam in a house up the road from my boyfriend in Santa Cruz, CA so I'm thinking origins thereabouts. He was friends with some of the members. Cracker played here in Reno about 6 or 8 months ago in support of a new album so I'm guessing they are still around .

"Low" always makes me money at the club, a lot of people dig it and it is familiar to a large group of people since it is still played on Alt-rock stations now and again. I play it with Jan'es Addiction at work.

Wow, "Low" was a late-college song for me...kinda rock, though not in the incoming "grunge" fashion or outgoing "lite metal" of the 80s.

I'm gonna find this song now. Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane

    heheheheheheheheheheh

cmon, some of you fell for it!!

    admit it dammit!!!!!

    ok other then Low.
get off this is ok,its kinda upbeat and catchy, might work. Its on the same album.
Teen angst is also kinda catchy, but it gets fast and may be hard for the stage.
The only real song that comes close to Low is sweet thistle pie imo.Its slow and grungy southern rock sounding. Its a very suggestive song of course and dancers can play on the words well.
I really thought that song would do great for the stage when it came out,but could never sell any of the dancers on it at the time.

But still,if you ran up into the booth today and said play Low and then something else by cracker,Sweet Thistle Pie is what i would toss on.

Yep, Cracker is still touring and fronted by Camper's founder David Lowery. Great bunch of guys, I was fortunate to meet them all, and hang out with them after a few of their shows. The drummer still lives in my neighborhood here in Brooklyn. The guitarist, Johnny Hickman has a solo album coming out soon.
