    Default Is liposuction worth it???

I went to a doctor Wednesday that I really liked and feel comfortable with. I have been considering lipo for a LONG time but had actually decided I really want it. I am a thin girl with thighs that just look out of proportion to my body. I have been working with a personal trainer for a little over 3 months and been taking Tonalin for a little over 2 months. I don't eat perfectly but I eat pretty decently. I do pilates and have been for over 3 years. I am 32 years old and have NEVER been able to lose my mushy thighs. I have little boobs so I feel out of proportion. The surgery will cost $5500 from this doctor but I would rather pay for a good doctor than be all chopped up by someone who doesn't know what they are doing. Well, besides the fact that right now I don't have $5500 (and have bad credit) someone has told me I am wasting my money getting this done and I should go to his trainer. Now, this is a guy who sort of always seems to think he knows the "right way" to do things. I have an excellent trainer who pushes me harder than anyone ever has in my life, including myself. Even my trainer has told me that it might be very hard to lose that fat there and tighten it up since my body naturally wants to hold on to it. Right now I am about 20% body fat. If I can get it off with diet and excercise I'm all for it but I just don't know if it will be possible without getting so low body fat I end up looking like Skeletor. So tell me what y'all think. Is it worth it or should I just keep busting my ass working out more and see where I get. (And regardless if I have the surgery I'll keep working out anyway so it's not like I'd stop if I get the surgery."

Have you had any results from the trainer? Did you talk to your trainer about getting lipo? What does he think?

I've talked to my trainer about it and he said that it might be tough to lose that fat and that it's possible I'd have to get my body fat soooo low I might not like the way the rest of me looks. I have seen results but it's like my thighs are just HANGING ON FOR DEAR LIFE!!!!!

More questions: Have you measured your thighs since the time you started? Like measuring them at the beg. and today? If you see a good decline in thigh circumference then wait a few more months doing your routine and then consider lipo. If you can make you thighs thinner by going to the gym longer...then ya know its a no brainer.

I am considering this as well. Like you, I am tiny girl with seriously out-of-proportion thighs due to thyroid problems. It took a while, but I finally found several docs who will do localized fat removal with local anesthesia (I've been advised by my endocronologist not to be put under again unless it's life-threatening because of the past reactions). I'll post about cost, etc. after my initial consult with the first doc in June.

Don't feel guilty about getting the surgery--do it for you. Training does not always work--I do tae bo, yoga, belly dance and exotic dancing, I eat an average of 1300 calories a day (if I eat more, I gain...welcome to the world of thyroid issues), and my thighs aren't gonna budge. So, just do your research and get a good doc. Most of the lipo results I've seen on the thigh area are really good, and if you feel better about yourself, it's worth it.

You sound like the perfect canditate for it . If you like the way the rest of your body looks, it will help you get your thighs in proportion. I was a size 0-2 with saddlebags . Have never regreted having lipo.

    Q: Is it worth it?
    A: You are worth it!

If there is a perfect candidate for lipo, it's you! I believe that you are right: If you lost weight or trained massively to get the thigh size you want, the rest of your body would be all bones.

    Go for it!

Well at least a few people feel the way I feel. I think I am the perfect candidate and have been told by a couple doctors I am. I'm a size 0/2 up top and usually a 4 down bottom cuz of my thighs! ack! I have taken measurements of my thighs after but everything is shrinking ever so slightly (even my boobs!!!! oh no!!!!) and it's all still the same proportion. Now I've just got to come up with the $ to do it. So do I dance and show the world my yucky thighs or just save it up more slowly? My boyfriend says most guys aren't that critical of my body like I am and are just happy they get to see a naked girl.

I don't know...I know 2 girls who had lipo done...and then they ballooned up a year later (it's all diet). But, I know that I would never get lipo because of that.

I think you should tighten up your diet a bit more. We all have fat storing plants in our body and they are in different places for everybody. If you have been with your trainer for 3 months and have not seen VERY NOTICABLE improvement, GET A NEW TRAINER!! I'm not kidding when some trainers just don't use high enough weights, proper cardio, etc. Part of the reason is because they do not want to lose customers due to "excess" soreness from the workouts...but part of the reason is because if you see "little" results...you'll stay, but pay so much money just to keep the trainer. As a rule of thumb...no trainer should be keeping you at all. They should be there to show you the proper way to work out...proper weights, form, etc. and then let you go. Trainers who depend on people staying for years are the ones that bilch you of your money.

When I did personal training, I did not hold onto a client for more than 1 month. I was always available if they had questions or hit a plateu...but did not want anyone to be dependant on working out on me.

Your weight training should be high enough that you actually tap yourself out at the end of your weight session. Weights should be done with free weights as much as possible. As much as people love those weight machines...you do not benefit from them at all!! Your cardio should be intensive, but done in intervals. If it's not...and your trainer does not up your weights frequently...if your trainer lets you do the stairmaster (or whatever cardio you do) at a constant speed...then your trainer is not training you properly and you need to find a new trainer.

Hold off on the lipo and see where proper training can get you. If after that, you still want to get lipo, then go for it.

Good luck and keep us updated!

I think my trainer is doing a great job. He's pushing me harder than anyone ever has. I get sore A LOT and he is always challenging me. Last week I did 10 pull ups (with a little help up to a certain point) and 10 regular push ups which I've never done in my life. He sends me recipies and measures me every six weeks. I am in a training group so it's only $35 per session but worth every penny for me becuase I need the discipline. He's accredited by an accreditation that I can't remember right now,but it's supposed to be the best one. He's also a cardiac rehabilitationist (or whatever the word). Of course it will take me a while to come up with the money for lipo so if after that time I see better results with my thighs I won't have it but if I don't I'll do it. My tummy is tighther and my legs are more toned and my arms. It's just that stubborn thigh fat that won't budge.
