    Default f'ed up schedules?

i am not sure if this is in the right forum seeing as how this is scheduling but i am still very new to dancing and so i put it here.

basically i have gone back into others' posts and read responses but i think every situation is different so here goes.

when i first got hired i made it clear that i would only be able to work nights and weekends, as my day job ends at 5, and sometimes i dont leave until 5:30. the management was cool with it.

from what i understand of my club, if you are not put on the schedule, then you are not obligated to show up. if you are on the schedule and you are a no show then you are penalized. crappy shift next time, whatever.

well i wasn't put on the schedule this past week. i went out of town and one of the managers called me and asked if i could come in, and i said no, since i wasn't even in town. he asked if i could come in the next day, the day i was coming back. i told him that i would TRY to make it, because i don't have a car and to go from the airport and then grab my stuff and then take public transportation is, to me, a little crazy. i just said i would try to make it.

well i couldn't, so i called him told him the deal and that was that.

today i called the club just to ensure that my schedule was set up; although i was the first girl to put in her schedule and its first come first served, i only got one of the four days i asked for. i spoke with the owner of the club and he wanted to me to work tonight (again a day i wasnt scheduled for) but when he learned that i had a day job too, he seemed very hesitant, almost like he wanted to fire me.

i like the club's atmosphere and the girls, but i dont know if i should go to another club or focus on parties on the weekend or what. i have no idea what to do. i like to dance, but this is not the first time my schedule has been jacked up. i dont want to seem flaky but i really want it to be understood that i didnt lie to anybody, i told them i had other responsibilities as well.

    any input? thanks.

Maybe even though it's "first come, first served", they still have a preference for certain girls (high money makers) and the lower earners kind of pick up the scraps.

If you are a low earner, then maybe that's what is happening.

It's not your fault. You're new. It just means you have to prove yourself.

Thats quite odd... I know all the clubs out here have schedules but no one ever follows them. Only ONE club pulls this penalizing you with "backrent" - charge you a stage fee because you should have been there but werent... only girls that work there are new girls who dont know any better.

Isnt the point of this job to be able to come and go as you please and work when you want and not when you want. Ive been dancing 5 years and have never ever been told when I can and cannot work. I just walk in and work...

I say if this is becomming a problem you may want to re-think why you are at this particular club... maybe look for one thats a bit more laid back and understands that its hard to be scheduled....

I hear your pain. The club schedule has been tough on many dancers recently. Three long-time dancers didn't even get schedules at all last week and many new girls are only getting one or two days per week.

Your money will be far better here than anywhere else in D.C., particularly if you have regulars (best advice: get regulars!). The schedule is the tough part. Hang in there; you can do really well with a little patience.

thanks a lot for the feedback.

an update...3 girls quit yesterday so they needed some bodies pronto. i understood, so i sucked it up, came in and worked. it was nothing against management, these 3 girls from what i hear were problem children anyway and wanted to leave.

owner, i am going to take your advice and work on getting regulars. i see how creating a demand would affect the schedules, and i think that ties into what you said emily about top earners. i am not a top earner, but i am not bottom tier either. maybe thats why this situation has been so touch and go.

audrey, i do hear a lot about dancers that come and work whenever, but because that doesn't fall in line with my line of thinking, i always want to know what is going on in advance. just a little quirk of mine.

i guess these are just my growing pains as a dancer. thanks !

oh well.. i can plan in advance if i want to work but i dont need permission to go in...

i.e. Im thinking of working this Thurs and Sat...ok... so I walk in and work those days... it is planned but I dont need permission to work and then on the other hand if Im bored and just want to go in I have that option. Like.. if I get a bad headache even tho I was planning on working Thurs Im not forced to go in and I dont get in "trouble" for not going. Thats what I meant. You CAN plan.. There are girls at my club that work Wed-Sat... thats their schedule but theyre not forced into it and are not repremanded for not showing up for whatever reason...

I dunno... I just cant fathom having a schedule as a stripper.. its just beyond me... lol... am I that dense?

p.s. Getting regulars is easier said than done.. in 5 years Ive only had a few....

Clubs in DC are very different from anywhere else. They are mostly small and only offer stage shows for entertainment (one club is an exception),which means no table/lap/private dances or rooms,so ther's a limited number of dancers working, that's why the scheduling is strict. You say you're brand new.If you're good at your job, then don't worry,be patient and you'll get a better schedule.

Audrey, you are living the dream!lol. This week I'm at a club where I am scheduled to work every three hours or so over like a 12 or 13 hour period, I'm also required to do at least one shower show per day. If I don't do my shower show or if i miss one of my shifts i get fined up the bum.

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING??!!?!? I shall never complain about clubs around here again... that does make the places I work at seem great... required to do shower shows? Here one club does them... girls BEG to do them because they sell tickets for $40 a piece... sell between 20-30 tickets... do a 30 minute show and each girl just walked with around $500 flat fee plus tips from games etc...

I make no money doing stage shows... im going to assume youre paid a salary? ....

Well, I have had many troubles with my schedule. At my club you can pick which days and which shift you wanna work and then management documents it......and many times management has messed up and put down the wrong day/shift. So obviously when I didnt show up for that shift that I didnt sign up for or even know I had, I got fined for and been threatened to be fired. I tried to tell one of the managers what happened and he didnt listen to me. I usually only have a problem with that one manager.....I think I must have pissed off one of his favorite dancers or something........who knows

At my old club club managers told me i can be scheduled only on availabe shifts and dayes (3 dayes min required),i even had no realy choice to pick up what i want .And for missed day fine is 40 $ . I had to quit because of that bs .I can make money only i want it . if i come to work only because i am scheduled and not because i want to be that day in a club ...,well, it affected on my earnings

This may be a little off topic, but where in D.C. do you work? I'm looking to audition in D.C. and if they just fired 3 girls maybe I can get some work there.

Hope the schedule works out and if not, I'll be your audition buddy at the next club you go to!

One club I was at did schedules at the beginning of one month for the following month, so basically say today you'd be booked from today until June 30th. I thought that was crazy, but I guess it is good for people who want this to be as close to a normal 9-5 job as possible.

They were probably just unsure because, as you said, people were leaving and they needed bodies. I hope it has picked up.

hey lares, i work at good guys. its a good club to work in from what i have heard, and judging from some of the other clubs that dc has to offer, and i am very happy that i work there instead of some of the alternatives.

the other women here are right, its all stage shows. and i am seeing now patience is gonna be a huge virtue in this business. if you need moral support for an audition let me know and i would be happy to join you!

we just hired this new girl that same night, so just like other clubs, for the most part, we are always hiring.

for the most part my schedule has turned around 100% and i am happy. i think me showing up on short notice was a good thing -- i work again tonight. if i can keep 4 days i will be happy.

audrey i understood what you meant, it's just that i have heard of management taking out their frustrations on dancers that decide when they come in, and i don't want to rock the boat just yet. it seems like from the other responses the management for the most part in a lot of clubs cant seem to keep it together. i would LOVE for a manager to shed some light on the subject from a manager's point of view. i will probably drill my own tonight when i come in, heh.

I'm in maryland too, and I think a lot of places operate under a schedule. The first place I worked, they would just give you a schedule but you wouldn't get it til sunday, the day right before the week started. THe other three places I've worked, you give them a schedule, but you do it a week in advance, so you make your own schedule, but then you have to show up when you said you would. There were also requirements, lkike at the gold club you had to work a certain number of dayshifts when you were new, and at my current, you're required to worka monday or tuesday and a friday or saturday. I've never worked somewhere where you could just go in when you wanted, that sounds awesome, but I don't know of anywhere around here like that except maybe hustler baltimore which I am hesitant to try out because of various things i've heard about it.

    Hey girlinmd,

Glad to see things are looking up for you! Good guys was one of my top choices because I know the area and feel comfortable starting in a small club! I'm thinking of auditioning next week. Should I go during they day? and is it ok to audition in a solid colored bikini? Also, if you feel comfortable doing it, PM me with your stage name and I'll tell the management that you recommended the place to me . Maybe that will help ya with the schedule stuff.

Recently, I started exotic dancing and you set your own schedule one week in advance. If you're late for your scheduled shift, you have to pay $20 for each hour that your are late for your shift. It doesn't matter even if you are 5 minutes late, you are paying that $20 fine. Do any of you entertainers think that is reasonable? The house fee is $30 and an additional $20 must be tipped out at the end of the night to other support staff.

    Thank you.
