    Default Lice! YUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

(Should this be in Body Business? I was unsure.)

Okay so my 10 year old son comes home from school today and says his head is really itchy and he found a bug (!!) in it. So, I calmly did a quick check, and yep. He has lice. (I also have 3 younger girls, all with fairly long hair). I just ran to Target and grabbed a bunch of the Rid shampoo and some spray for furniture etc. Now i know I'm supposed to wash all bedding, hats, etc in hot water and all that. I've never had this happen before, anyone have any extra suggestions? I'm gonna go ahead and treat all 3 girls and the wife as well just in case. I'm bald, so I aint too terribly worried about my noggin. Any info from anyone who may have gone through this would be groovy, thanks.

ugh,my heart goes out to you,get pleanty of the rid-a-bug stuff, alot of times, they recatch it from classmates and you gotta do it all again.

Contact the school so all the parents can do it at one time and not just keep passing it around.

Best of luck with that little comb thru the pubes thingy, better to just be a man and shave it off.

My best friend had to go through this. She was gone from school for almost a week. This was when we were like 8. Yes, I think treating the rest of the family w/ the lice shampoo is a good idea. WASH everything!!! Vacuum really good too. Change the bag and everything. Also, I remember her having to get her head combed w/ the special lice comb.
Her mom washed all of her bedding.....yes...wash the blankets on the couch too pillow cases and all.
If he has lice then maybe a few kids in his class have lice too. If you havent recieved a notice notify the school about it and they will have the other kids checked for lice thus sending them home for treatment.

visit www.headlice.org for more info they should help alot.
    Good luck there...glad youre bald

Oh god I recall as a kid getting lice a few times. I had very long hair so maybe that had something to do with it. I told my boyfriend and he said it was because I went to an "urban" school or some shit but I went to the most expensive private school in the city and so it wasn't due to kids who weren't well kept. It just happens with kids and we were contstantly being checked for lice. When me or my brother got it we had to use that Rid shampoo and wash everything that was washable in the house and vacuum. I think my mom would do something with our stuff animals too like put them in a garbage bag in the attic for a while or something. My whole family would wash with the shampoo. My dad used to wash his WHOLE BODY with it.

You know what's funny? When I was a kid, my mom would buy 2-3 bottles of expensive Rid shampoo to wash 4 of us with the few times the lice thing happened. We later found out other parents saved a bunch of money in those situations by washing their kids with FLEA SHAMPOO!

well, the flea shampoo thing makes sense, actually. The active ingredient in this Rid lice shampoo stuff is Pyrethrum extract and Piperonyl Butoxide. I just went and compared it to the cat's flea shampoo, and yup.....same stuff. Hmmmm. Maybe I can just get that Frontline stuff from the vet and put a drop on the back of the kids' neck once a month. Hey, ya never know! Thanks for all the input folks. Oh, and Big G, I keep everything fairly nicely trimmed anyway so i don't think I'll have to be shaving anything.

Yep, the doggie shampoo has the same chemical in it as rid that kills the bugs.

actually, I don't think it's recommended that you treat everyone in the family just as a precautionary measure. Everybody's head should be checked, but not necessarily treated unless they exhibit the symptoms of infestation. This was the advice given to me by my FNP when my daughter was exposed to lice (but thankfully did not get it)

When I went to school overseas, the school nurse would go through each classroom and do head checks. It was supposed to be "confidential" but you always knew which student had lice because they had to immediately leave the room. doh! Man, kids would be leaving the room in tears from the shame.

When I was in elementary school, they would check us every few weeks. From what I remember is that yea, Rid is very good, make sure you comb through it very well.

Oh, and besides washing their linens, wash all of their clothes, and stuffed animals as well. Basically any and every thing they come in very close contact with!

LOL you just made me remember something else. That used to happen at my school too. The only difference was they would come back in class with a brown paper bag. Guess you could call it a Rid - Lice Kit Now that is shameful!

I remember the lice checks at school. But no one ever had lice. I guess its from the deadly lye based soaps from the hispanic markets. I remember this soap was for cleaning counters, hair soap, body soap, clothing soap, probably 10 other things, but I remember if you kept it on too long on your head it would burn a little.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Yea I remember my nurse telling us that it is very rare for lice to even think about coming on a black/hispanic persons head. I dont' think I've ever known a blk kid to get lice

Update: No one else in the family has them. BUT despite our best efforts of hot water washing and bleaching and whatnot, he came home today itching his head again. So, we're washing everything YET AGAIN!! Oh, and I just shaved his head. Fuck that. It's almost summertime so a boy with a buzzcut shouldn't be too suspicious. BTW, we called his school, and they didn't do anything. No checks of other kids, nothing. I found that odd. They were just kinda "Oh...okay thanks" when we called. Hopefully this annoying saga will end here.

Geebus I hope so!! Poor child. HAHAha shaving his head should do the trick. I feel bad for the other kids that might have them. Thats so wrong for them to not check for lice...so unsanitary to not check.

Maybe theyll check when a teacher gets lice?! Turds..

Horrible memories! I had lice in Jr. High... OOooo... I washed my hair with Rid, stayed home the next day and washed all my clothes and sheets, put anything that I couldn't put in the washer (eg, my backpack) in a plastic bag for a month, and went through EVERY strand of hair to make sure the eggs were gone. Then, I re washed my hair with RID a couple more times, sprayed the carpet with that lice killer Rid makes... that got rid of them... but it DID take me all day!! The horror!

Mr. Christopher: Call the school board and complain..the school is obligated to start checking kids. They don't want public humiliation, that's why they're underplaying it.

Schools are prevalent sources of all sort of bad things - communicable diseases, parasites, discriminations, bullies, drugs/cigs/alcohol, bad friends, bad info, etc.

Lax parents and poor hygiene education cause most of these problems. It's to be expected in schools.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

Well, Chris.. I already told you my experience with the nasty buggers in chat that night, but I'll retell it here because it's important.

My Son was in Kindergarten when my daughter (who was 3 and at home with me) suddenly came down with them. Strange enough, but the kicker was that my Son was BALD. Don't ask, haircut gone wrong. He moved, stripe down the middle of his head, so all the hair had to go.. Heh.. They had apparently hitched a ride home on my Son's clothes and saw my Daughter's beautiful head of hair and said "PARTY TIME!"

Well, I treated her for them. Good News first: Lice were gone after treating her, the bedding, carpeting, furniture, etc.. Bad News: Her hair was also gone. Every single bit of it, except for a teeny little strip in the back of her head.

Now for the important part: ALWAYS do a spot-test before covering your child's (or your own) head in RID, or any of that other lice-treatment stuff. It's got a whole lot of powerful chemicals in it that will literally burn the child's scalp causing him or her to lose their hair. Put it in a little spot underneath their hair.. Wait a bit and see if there's a reaction. If there is, call your pediatrician. If there isn't, go ahead and fry the little bastards of their head.

As for Steffi... Her hair grew back in about 3 or 4 months, after some cream treatments prescribed by her doctor. She hated hats too and wouldn't wear them, so everyone thought she was in Chemo, or that she had Alopecia.

Threlayer, I completely agree with you about negligent parents. My Son also came home with Chicken Pox a couple weeks before Christmas (same year). He told me that a girl in his class had them, and that her mother made her wear long sleeved shirts and turtlenecks to conceal the Pox. Guess her job was a little bit more important than keeping her child home to recover. So, because it was hidden from the school, 6 kids (including my Son) came down with them. He was over it in the standard 2 weeks. I thought my Daughter was spared until XMas morning. Yep.. She woke up all excited about opening presents, and was scratching away, covered head-to-toe. Grrr.
