    Angry Aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrhhh!!!!!!!

OKAY! Ok, I'm going to calm down enough to type here! So, I've been away from the club and all for about a year. Going to school, working a couple jobs for work experiance, yadda yadda yadda. Well, I racked up about 3,000 bucks over this past year in debt.... and I got a ferret. So, I'm living at home right now until I pay all this off. Crappy timing, Pookah has a tumor! The surgery is going to cost $800. So, I'm going back! Like, this weekend! I love my guy, I've been with him over a year. However, he doesn't believe that I should go back and doesn't believe that I should spend that money on some dumb pet. He isn't listening to me! Am I crazy?

    Bella,
Sounds like you like the ferret more than the guy. If that is what you want to do go right ahead and be happy. You are gorgeous and 22. Do what you think is right without other's opinions.

PS a Pookah is a rabbit not a ferret. LOL
Now if you say your boyfriend's name is Harvey I will smack ya up side the haid. LOL

No way. If he needed surgery, I'd pay way more! Pookah is loosely translated into "Farty" in russian. But hardy har har. I'm just upset that he can't understand why I'm doing it. But, when I brought up that his new car project is costing him WAY more than surgery for my pet, everything went ballistic!

People do what makes them happy whether it is good or bad for them. In your case...its your beloved ferret. I love my cats more than anything they are my babies so I can see why you want to spend $800 in its surgery.

His car thingy...well Ive been on the side that would sell it too him. He loves his car as you love your pet...as long as its his money hes spending. lol I think youre doing the right thing for your pet.

I've spent hundreds on animal hospital bills. Tell Mr. Insensitive it's not the pet who is benefitting from the money spent, but YOU, since the pet gives you happiness and pleasure. Then tell Mr. Insensitive to help with some bills and go out and get you some ice cream. LOL.

My rule: (most expensive pet: $4,000 in ICU medical at U. Penn hospital.....average not counting the healthy 1s $2,000) is that the pets are members of family. If he doesn't get that, WATCH OUT! I've always had trouble in relationships where they didn't understand my animal policy.

What's his solution to you not going back? Why shouldn't you? Is he worried you won't get a "real job in this town" if known as a dancer? Afraid you'll get hit on too much and he'll lose? Find out...and work through it with him. Maybe dancing in another town (less chance reason #1 will matter) makes more sense...

    Good luck hon

I think I spent over $2000 last year on my dog and it's worth every penny. I'd give hands jobs in the back seats of cars if I had to to pay for something my dog had to have. So I think dancing is a pretty tame thing to do to pay for it.

I personally like to experience the sense of the term "supportive" in a relationship with anyone, whether romantic or friendship. He said he doesn't think you should spend YOUR $800 on YOUR pet.....which implies to you that he doesn't think that the animal is worth the expense.....so it should die....which would hurt you tremendously....so in the end, you are feeling that he doesn't care about how this will effect you. i.e. your emotions aren't worth $800.

I'm sure (or would hope) that he did not intend to make you feel that way...but that's the end result.

Be yourself, Bella...do what you want...surround yourself with those who take you for you. Dispose of the rest.

    ^ Amen.

It's a predatory quasi-rodent. $800 buys a lot of other similarly capable rodents. Hell, I haven't spent that much on my own health care in three years. I certainly wouldn't dump it into a rodent.

    But it's your money...

Chicagoeditor, you sound like my bf, lol. He had also told me that i was being selfish by paying for the surgery??!?!?!? DIdn't make sense. But, I talked to him last night and he finally admited that he was just jealous of Pookah and what I would do for her. So, I told him I would do the same for him. Thanks for your support though, guys. I needed to hear some support with this.

    $800 to save a pet?

Hell yes, I'd pay up. If need be, I'd take out loads of loans and work my ass off to pay 10 times that much. I can't stand it when people think pets are disposable.

Good luck with everything Bella!! And give Pookah some extra love from me.

I can't speak for ferrets, I'm a dog owner, BUT that being said if it's your pet and it makes you happy.......do whatever you feel is right to pay for it.

Last year my West Highland Terrier was diagnosed with Addison's Disease. She just turned 4 last month and I've spent over $5,000 since last June......now she is doing GREAT!! She gets her meds everyday and will live a long and happy life. To me it was worth EVERY penny. But then again I like animals more than most people

Why do some people--Okay, mostly girls--invest more emotional energy into their beloved "baby" dog or cat or ferret than their boyfriends, husbands, aging parents, etc. Call me cold-hearted, but I find this kind of gushy love for non-human creatures laughable. Besides, everyone likes kittens and puppies. Get a new one!

I respect life in all forms. Would you put your grandmother to sleep because her surgery was too expensive for you? Not likely. Even if you had no relationship or a bad relationship with her. I love my pets and would certainly do whatever possible to make their lives happier. Hopefully, no animal finds its way into this situation under your roof.
I really don't want to hijack this thread, we obviously aren't going to agree on this.

Wow.....when was your heart surgery I'd invest this much "emotional energy" into my boyfriend, husband, parents, family AND pets. I care for them ALL......
Non-human....well, pets may not walk upright but they give joy to many, and you don't sound like you'd give joy to anyone or anything with that attitude.
You don't even wanna open this can of worms with animal lovers. Obviously your mother never taught you the basic rule of "if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all"......I'm done with this thread. Damn.... Now I KNOW why I like animals more than most people!

Bella21......You spend whatever makes you and Pookah feel better and disregard BS comments from negative people on here.

Your guy sounds like he doesn't know how to prioritize yet.I would dump him and keep the little loveable ferret.Saying how stupid he thinks that is,is just a precursor to how things will be in the future for you two.

I've spent several times that to save a pet/animal. I consider it being a neglectful pet owner to do otherwise.

Adopting an animal is a bigger responsibility than most chip-shouldered pricks are able to fathom. You're adopting another life- one to become a part of your own life and therefore are responsible for. It's similar to having children, but with fur.

Honestly, if I was with someone that put money over an animal's life, they'd be packing the same day... especially when in this case, there is a simple solution of earning some money in the interim. If he's so against your return to work, then he should flip the bill.
It doesn't matter if you're somebody in this world, it rather matters you mean the whole world to somebody.

I've spent nigh on $500 on a rat with a pesky infected cyst - if, honestly, each vet hadn't been assuring me he'd be fine after a surgery [or two.. or three] I might've put him down, because he was in pain.

A new baby animal isn't /that/ animal, each has a different personality. I've been hesitant to get another rat just over that experience, he was such a darling. And for the price of his medical care I could've bought 166 petstore rats or 33 from my friend's rattery. But none of those would be the same as my Edvard. I have the money at my disposal, and if my boyfriend needed surgery or anything OF COURSE I'd pay for it! And it'd be several times more expensive than $800.

Maybe because out dogs and cats dont treat us like shit. :-) When I get home, my dogs jump on me, lick my face, gets all crazy. (hmmm, my fiance does that now, so he doesnt count )
But animals love unconditionally. I've never seen my dog run off to another owner just because he is tired of me.

With an attitude like yours, I am sure that many girlfriends of yours truly loved their pets and spend less quality time with you.
