Default should I find a new personal trainer?

I joined a gym and I was all excited to get a person trainer. I bought a series of three 30-minute sessions with my trainer and all went well, so I decided to go ahead and get 20 60-minute session with the same guy.

Well, the first time he was a no show (I dont have to pay for it, but it's kind of annoying.) The next two times he was late. He cut my workout short too, but I was kind of sore, so I didn't really mind. Now today, he was MIA again. I had the gym call him and he said he hurt his toe or something. he never called me to tell me this, which is kind of annoying. So he's only 2 for 4 and even though I feel like I'm getting a good workout, I can tell he's not really into it. Plus the whole time I'm working out, he's trying to recruit people in the gym to come to his paintball place.

So I'm at a dilemma. I like him. I get a good workout, but he's kind of flaky.

"Kind of flaky" is not the kinda personal trainer you wanna have.... if he's not really into it he is not giving you 100% and that is the kind of service you need and deserve.

Perhaps enquire about the other trainers during your next session with him, hint that you are thinking of changing trainers. If that doesn't make him shape up you might wanna think about shipping him out!!

Yea you need to cut him loose and find you a more "professional" trainer. Shi, if I were you I would complain to the company that you want some free make up training sessions! You deserve it!!! You chose a health plan with THEIR company, and this is how they repay you?! Tell them you will take your business elsewhere unless some PROMPT ACTIONS are taken!

LOL can ya tell i'm in a bitchy mood tonight lol

I'd can him too. Flaky people will keep being flaky if people let them get away with it.

Flaky trainers scare me. They don't pay attention to the little things...who's to say that he's paying attention to the BIG things (like form)? Big no-no. It's great that he's so nice, but damn it. Emily, get someone who's responsible and who cares that you get a good workout. Complain to the management that he's been no-show twice and the times that he actually showed up, he was LATE and had the nerve to cut your workout short because of his tardiness.

Do not train with this guy again. Don't give him any more chances. He's had his several chances and he's proven that he's not reliable.

Move on. There are better trainers out there. Find one that you think is great and that you see there ALL the time during the times you work out the most. The trainer you have may not be a morning person (if you are working out in the morning) and so never gets out of bed...but, still...find someone who's paying attention and can keep their eye on the ball.

but the real important question is :IS HE CUTE?

    j/k!!!

If he is not providing a quality service then you should tell him how you feel. If he doesn't fix it, you should go elsewhere. If his living comes from personal training i think its best to at least explain what he did wrong so he can fix it in the future! good luck!

Yeah I'd say get rid of him too. I can't imagine my trainer not showing up and a lot of times he pushes me to do more than he really has to. He asks me what I ate and how I exercised on my days between seeing him and sends me emails of meal plans and recipies and has a contest for whoever of his clients works the hardest and they get a massage (from a massage therapist not from him!). Now I just found out I think he's moving out of town

    just an update....

I went in Monday to see my flaky trainer and he was a no show again! So I complained to the manager and he was very sympathetic. he gave me credit back for the two hour-long sessions I had done with him and let me start all over with a brand new trainer. I had my first session with him and he's awesome! I'm so happy.

lesson to self....not all trainers are created equally!

    thanks for the tips guys

Awesome Emily now you can get your moneys worth! The old trainer probably wont be working there that long...oh well his fault.

Outside of people with specific sports-related goals and such or injury rehab, I pretty much think they are a waste of money.

Doing the correct things in the gym is not complicated at all and there is a wealth of free information available..

If you are motivated enough to go to the gym regularly and didn't find high school very difficult, you have enough sense and motivation to not need a trainer.

But, I see you've already had a good experience with a new one, so good luck and happy workouts.

    Neither are cute!

    Probably for the best.

The first flaky one was short and had bad teeth. The new trainer is short and like 40.

And I wasn't really asking if you thought it was worth the money, but thanks for offering your opnion, shot.

I think having a trainer is well-worth the money if you gain more knowledge/encouragement from it.

While I don't think that someone should have a trainer all the time...it comes down to personal choice. It's hard to avoid going to the gym once you've paid someone for their time...LOL...that would kick my ass out of bed in the mornings!!
