    Default Black eyeliner help

I have been doing this makeup look for work. I like it because it is simple and easy to do, and involves reletively few products. Basically it is brown liquid shadow and balck kohl pencil with mascara. I have some questions about this, though:

    1. The instructions say to line INSIDE the top and bottom lashes. The bottoms are easy, but how in the world do you do the tops?

    2. I am having trouble getting the proper smudgy-yet-defined look in the picture

    3. The pencil does tend to flake off a little during the course of the night (I work 8-hour shifts--long nights!)

    4. What is the best pencil brand to use?

    Thanks, ladies!

Victoria's Secret makes a nice eye-lining pencil that is soft and smudgy - it is NOT waterproof. So I use water proof mascara or false eyelashes so that I wont have raccoon eyes by the end of the night, plus I hate to always be fiddling with my face when I need to be working. Also, you could use a waterproof liquid eye liner and then a pencil. I know, it's a lot of steps but once it's set, your done! No more fiddling.

    I hope this helps.
Plus, let me know if any of this works.

i like loreal's eyeliner, it goes on really smooth. You can smudg it pretty easy, if you were closer i would let you borrow to see if you liked it...i hate buying makeup and later i dont like it.....

I used to do that look all the time, you have to layer, even though you said you use a small amount of products. Sounds like the liquid stuff is why you can't get it to be smudgy, you'll have to use a powder eyeshadow to get it smudgy. Or at least put the liquid stuff on first as a base, then put a powder on over it and use s brush to smudge it.

As for the liner, I don't know WHAT they're talkin about lining he upper part!! Your eyelashes should take care of makin that look black, you should only be lining the bottom. And as for brands, I used Revlon colorstay in black. It stays pretty good, but no matter what brand you use, you'll always have to reapply at some point cuz the inner part of your eye is always guna get wet from the natural moisture of the eye

Use a Q-Tip for smudging/ correcting. Also, I think eye makeup looks better as it "wears" and "sets"- your body heat and facial oils kinda naturally smudge the eyeliner.
The best low-priced waterproof eyeliner is by Maybelline and Revlon...the waterproof DOES wear off, but slowly. (I always wondered where it went when I had to re-apply...LOL)
I wish I had better suggestions, but anything for a hot redhead.....

physician's formula makes a really good eye liner that smudges (it even has the smudgey thing at the other end). This stuff stays put for quite a while too, I usually touch up just out of habit, not because I need to.

MAC's Fluidline eyeliner! It will NOT go anywhere, doesn't smear off or end up smearing down an inch below my bottom eyelashes like every other eyeliner I have used for the past 15 years, great stuff! Use the tiniest brush for a precise line, or the 211 brush for a fatter line. Nice color selection.

Yeah, I forgot about that spot, line the bottom and the inside corner, so the "top" but only to where your lashes start, so basically all of the inner corner

I used to buy this stuff by clean and clear that was a facial mister/moisturizer. It was really cool cuz whenever you get that too much makeup/dried out feeling, you could mist this over you face and it'd feel way better. BUT it also helped with smoothing all the makeup out so that it looked perfect. Kinda like how she mentioned the oils and heat making it smudge naturally. It sped up the process, BUT now I can't find the damn spray I think they stopped making it. I think Lancome might make a facial mister/moisture spray tho

Ok, my mistake, it's not Lancome ( at least I couldn't find anything) But I did find a Clinique one

Moisture Surge Face Spray Thirsty Skin Relief

Water your skin. Take along a refreshing face spray for showers of thirsty skin relief. Bursting with moisture and active aloe. But not a drop of oil. Rapidly replenishes skin’s moisture level, restoring balance. Softens and soothes in a flash.

Hold 10-12†from face. Close eyes and spray a light mist. Use in addition to daily moisturizer, under or over makeup, whenever skin feels thirsty. Avoid spraying into eyes. For all skin types.

Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief

Spray over makeup after you're done with it (don't make it super wet, just mist it) and your makeup will set and blend together for flawlessness!

    To get that look, what i would do is;

~apply eyeliner to bottom lid(inside) Nice and thick.
~Then i would take an eyeliner and apply it just beneath the bottom eyelackes(or behind the bottom lasher) as close to the outside of the eyeline(bottom lash roots)-do this from front to back. To make eyes appear catlike and longer, i would extend at the corner of the eyes.
~then i would apply top eyeliner(as close to lash roots as possible)
~ to get eyeliner inside the top eyelid, lif the top lid with one finder, then apply to inside eyeline with the other hand. It is the same concept as bottom eyelid. But you will have to lift top of the lid, then apply. It is harder to do than the bottom, but it is pretty much the same thing. But hader to reach.
~ Then i would do some touch ups, make sure everything is nice n' neat. Line is nice and solid at the bottom n' top. The corner of the eyes (catlike feature) forms a nice horizontal Vpoints. < >
~ Then apply a nice mascara. My favorite is Unstopable or Avon products. Work well.

Or you could always go to a profecional n' bring the picture n they'll teach you!

Hope this makes sense and helps!

I line the outside top as close to your lash as you can and bottom inside of my eyes. I use MAC eyeliner in Smolder. Liquid is not going to smuge at all, and is better for the "cat-eye" look. You could use liquid first and go over with a pencil, but maybe you could get a black shadow to dust over the liquid instead.

How you do the smudging really depends upon how big your eyes are. Lining under the top eyeliner is a big no-no for people who have "small" eyes as it makes your eyes look even smaller.

Do you have a picture of what your eyes look like? That way, I can see how big/small they are and can help you from there.

MAC's creme eyeliner is more versatile and stays on just as long. Both Fluidline and Creme will not go anywhere with out soap and water. I have oily eyelids. No makeup stays on except paints and cremes.

MAC's prices are extremely reasonable if not a deal for the quality. Good brushes are a must for proper application. Good brushes cost $$$$ and last a long time with good care.

    Okie Dokie...

Get a MAC eyeliner (or any eyeliner that won't run...I'm partial to MAC). Heavily line the inside bottom rim of your eyes...then you just keep lining on down through the lashes. That is to make sure that you don't have any skin showing through. Take the eyeliner and carefully draw (heavily) underneath the lashes. Take a q-tip and gently blend it all together. For myself, I use a black eyeshadow (MAC) and with the lining brush, very lightly go over the area that I lined with pencil (under the lashes)...then with a q-tip (or pinkie fingertip) smudge the eyeshadow/liner under the eye. When you do your lids...use a silver/white base. Then, with the black shadow and a liner brush, make a thin line from the outer corner of the eyes to the inner corners. Since your eyes look more "narrow" make sure that you do not put too much black liner/shadow above the eyes. You can make the line darker...but do not make it too thick. It'll *close* your eyes up.

I'll do this tonight and post a pic so you can see what it looks like done.

    BTW...you have beautiful eyes!

I took your pic into photoshop, I think this would look the best (You may need false eyelashes for the one part) but I did a bunch of smudging and lining and I think it looks GORGEOUS! (just don't mind the slight crookedness of the black around the eyes, the clarity of the pic wasn't all there, so it was hard to see where the lines of your eyes were) I also added a little bit of blush.... I think it's beautiful!

I really think you should stay away from doing the black "crease" thing, though. I think it really makes your eyes look smaller. Using a light color and then doing the smudging right around your eyes will give you the "smudged" look but won't close up your eyes. Too much dark colors will close your eyes.

But, try it different ways...see what works best for you.
