Default making nail polish last longer?

I had my very first manicure and pedicure today. My nails look awesome. How do I keep the polish from chippping? How often should I go to get them done?

I can't believe how pretty my hands and feet look! I'm a runner and play guitar. I hadn't taken care of them until now. I saw how gorgeous the nails of other dancers were and developed apendage envy. Instead of remaining jealous and bitter, I went to a salon.

How can I keep them looking good?

Every other day put a protective top coat of clear on. Also before you go nighty-night slather your feet & hands in vaseline and put socks on them. Or if you sleep alone wrap them in plastic wrap or a plastic grocery bag w/ rubberbanded tops. This keeps your skin super soft Every day you get in the shower scrub your feet w/ a pumice stone. Be sure to buy your stone from the nail salon and not the grocery store. Actually slather yourself in vaseline nightly and sleep in sweats. You'll be amazed at how soft your skin will become... (One of the reasons I miss being single, it's hard to get all your beauty treatments in before hubby gets home)

Also ask the manicurist to only use the stone and not the callus shaver on your feet. (unless they are i n VERY bad condition then it just saves her 20 minutes of extra work)

Seche Vite is an awesome top coat. I've been buying it for years, it gives a super shiny gloss and lasts forever. You can buy it at Ulta, Sallys, or any beauty supply store. It's about $7-8, but worth every penny!

If you tan, cover your nails with a towel. The UV rays will turn the acrylic yellow.

And DO NOT do dusting by hand!!!! Use gloves, that dust will get right into the nails and turn them icky (speaking from experience, I'm a dust-aholic and it killed my nails.)
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

And, use light colors (it's spring/summertime). When light colored polish starts to "wear" a bit, it's harder to see. I went for polish changes every week (accompanied by manicure/pedicure). Sometimes when you go every week, the salon really starts to know and appreciate you (make sure you tip well) and will start giving you discounts. I went to one salon every week for 1 1/2 years...and when they raised their prices, I paid the old prices...and even then they would always give me some deal of manicure/pedicure for $35...which around here is near impossible to beat.

Oh...and if you wash dishes, make sure you wear gloves...

I'm a nail tech also and OPI is the BEST! If you use this order your nails will look like you had them professionally done: OPI Chip Skip- removes oils from nail plates
OPI Base Coat for natural nails
OPI Color( whatever color you chose, do 2 coats though)
    OPI Top Coat
OPI Drip Dry( to dry faster and adds shine)
This was out procedure in my salon and polish lasts up to 2 wks on hands and up to 6 weeks on toes!!!

If you tan at a Palm Beach tan, you can buy nail covers also to prevent the yellowing you get in the beds.
