Default Best Vaccuum Cleaner for Dog Hair?

I love my dog, but he sheds like crazy. We have to have him the house often because some of our neighbors are shady and I feel safer when he's in here with me- he barks when someone approaches the yard/ front door and usually can tell a friend from a stranger before we open the door (dog's sense of smell?) Also, if we left him alone too much he'd go crazy, he likes human company.
So, he's indoors all the time. But, there's dog hair everywhere, all the time! I'm going to have to buy a vaccuum cleaner to keep up with it. I might even splurge on a shop vac, since we have leaky porches and other assorted problems that a shop vac might be helpful for.
PS We have no carpet, which is why we don't have any vac right now. Any recommendations?

    Not a dyson!

I loved it at first, then I had to take care of my mom's dog and pffftt.... Didn't pick up a single hair.

Which isn't a funny situation with a Siberian Husky in Arizona.

Are they wood floors? When we had wood floors in Florida and an American Eskimo mutt we had white fluff everywhere. Trying to vacuum it up just kinda made it blow everywhere, and was insanely annoying. Those Swiffer thingees work really well for pet hair (I have 3 cats), or those weird mops that are elctrostatically charged or something, those work better than any vacuum I've ever tried. I'm currently in the process of trying to save enough cash to put in nice woodfloors downstairs here to match the ones upstairs. Light grey carpet+4 kids+3 cats=No Fun At All.

The best is a Eureka Boss with the HEPA filter. I had one of those Dyson's and it sucked everything up for like two weeks then nothing. Thank God, I got the warranty on it from Best Buy so I just took it back and asked to trade it.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

    Miele.

All you need to know about vacuums...of course they're around $700-$900, but they're the best.

I have a Kirby G5. I love, love, love it. With a toddler and 2 cats...there is nothing that this thing can't clean. It has a special "spinning brush" attachment that just *whisks* hair off of clothes, furniture...it picks up hair from the floor so well. It even comes with a hardwood floor attachment; you hook the hose up with the hardwood floor sweeper and you won't ever use a broom and dustpan again!!

It's kind of expensive...but totally worth it!!

Kirby's are kick ass but they cost over $1k. That's a lot for a vaccuum. Dysons are also great. My mom has one. Our old vac didn't get cat hair off the ground. Therefore, we had to use a brush to get if off the floor manually. Needless to say we didn't do that much so when we moved the floors were bad in some places. It got ALL of it up. Plus, we found out that one of the cats had puked on the floor under the bed where nobody could see until the bed was removed. It was probably months old and would require several minutes of scrubbing and sill leave a stain. The Dyson picked all of it up and left no stain.

We have a Eureka Boss now and we love it. Half the price of a Dyson and works almost as well.

Yep, I paid $1100 for my Kirby, but I have the hardwood floor attachments, the carpet cleaning attachment, etc, etc, etc. Pricey, but figuring that I don't need anything else... I think it's the best investment. Plus...they have great payment plans.

Dam, I just realized this was a 3y/o thread. Anyway, my vac ad is still for a new vacuum though.

woah i coulda sworn i replied to this thread.

kirbys are too strong, seriously they can actually suck the fibers out of your carpet! but aside from that their attachements are cheap and the customer service sucked. i had mine on trial for a month and went back to my dyson.

oh dyson...the love of my life haha
