    Default Changing music

I normally dance to R&B or hip hop because the rhythm helps me move better. Recently I tried some rock and crawled around and flipped my hair like I was in a rock video and the guys loved it!

Anyone else notice responses to different types of music?

Most definitely. Picking music based on the demographics in the club always helps. Keep a keen eye on the age and nationalities of the customers. Watch their expressions, body language, and attention whwn other dancers play other music genres. Keep a lil voice in the back of your mind that says "we entertain them, not ourselves".

OH so well said. I cant count the number of times I will be working a day shift (older white croud in suits) and girls want to hear nothing but the new hip hop. I wish more girls would listen to that little voice.

What appeals to the older white crowd? This may sound like an obvious question but I'm referring to 70's classic rock vs. 80's rock ( Van Halen etc. ) and lyrics that are more contemplative vs. those referring to sexy women.

I like it all event though I mostly use hip hop. My club's demographic is Latino/black and a bit ghetto but also gets alot of travelers and business men and I have to say that the ones who pay and give me the least problems are older white dudes, my new best friends.

Depends on their age range really. Here's what I do:

    White men, 35 - 45:

Mainstream '80s rock, some '70s rock as well... such as:

Kiss, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones, etc. If the're closer to the 45 mark than the 35, I'd go with more '80s bands who had been established since the '70s or earlier.

If the guys are closer to 35 than 45, I get in the hair bands a lot. Also works with bikers for the most part:

Quiet Riot, Ratt, Motley Crue, Skid Row, Dokken, Guns n’ Roses, Warrant, Slaughter, L.A. Guns, Great White, W.A.S.P. and Bon Jovi...

    White men, 45 - 55:

Here I tend to stick in the late '60s through the '70s. With the younger of this age group, you can still get away with those long-established bands with '80s hits... Beatles, Rolling Stones, Doors, Jethro Tull, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, Aerosmith, Jefferson Airplane/Starship, Moody Blues, etc...

    White men, 55+:

Where as the Beatles and softer bands like Moody Blues can still grab this age group, I do better with them when I play Sinatra, Peggy lee, Billy Joel, Tony Bennett, etc.

Yup, very helpful breakdown...makes alot of sense! BTW you DO have a booty of doom; a doomful booty. May I ask if it's an implant? How do you get that nice apple shape curve on the bottom?

I thing that appeals to older men and some of the younger guys...well almost anyone with broad music taste is swing music...Brian Setzer, Cab Calloway, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy..its all very fun. My signature set is Jump, Jive and Wail by B. Setzer and then Minnie the Moocher(by Cab Calloway but I do the Blues Brothers version) it is fun sexy and VERY different...it really sets you apart as I've never heard anyone else do it...there is a great part in minnie the moocher that the people are supposed to sing along with and that will usually get people involved and paying attention because they recognize it....blues is a great untapped resource as well..its about all i dance too. Look out for John Lee Hooker, Susan Tedeschi, Johnny Lang, etc. good luck

Although this is good advice and all. It has been my experience that these older white men like new rock as well. I use to dance to a lot of the classic rock for I thought they liked it. A few of these guys made references to how they wanted to hear new stuff, too. It may be a part of their midlife crisis ordeal. Creed stuff, Linkin park, nickelback, etc. Is what they seem to like. A lot of guys I meet like nickelback.
