    Default navigating OMP

For anyone who is currently modeling, how the heck do you sift through the site to find a qualified photographer.

Since joining yesterday i have more them 150 emails to my two faceshots online and im really not sure where to go now.

Some are requesting pay shoots, some are managers, talent scouts and very professional and known photographers. The problem is... its really hard to know who is who and what to do?

All i want right now is someone who can shoot some quality photos to build a portfolio.

Anyone else belong to the site, some pointers please?

I've been an OMP member for over a year now. The offers DO roll in very quickly and steadily. But you do have to be careful, because any guy with a camera thinks he's a photographer. Some want to arrange shoots in very very odd and creepy places. In their profiles, they should have references of other OMP models they have worked with. Definitely check up with them. You can find out how the photographer works with models, if he's (or she's) a scumbag, if he (or she) listens to your ideas, and so on. They know first-hand what the person's like. In their profiles, you'll be able to see their work too, and you'll be able to see if their style is right for you.

I was lucky, and I found a very very good one. He's my sister's photographer and now manages her. Unfortunately, he's in RI. He does excellent work though, very creative and original.

He's the only one I've worked with. I haven't updated my profile pictures on OMP in a while, but I did change my address and stuff. As soon as I did that, all the offers from here in TN started rolling in. Haven't found one I want to work with yet. I'm picky.

I'm going to kick this over to Other Work, because it'll get a bunch of responses there, and there are a few other threads about this too.

    Good luck and be safe!

When you get a referral e-mail from OMP, it will have the member's link within the e-mail. Click on the link to check out their work and see who they're working with so you can contact those people for references.

A certain amount of screening takes place - you can also reply to the purported photographer and ask specifically for samples and references.

    Good luck.

You know, go with who does quality work, has a nice portfolio, and who won't hesitate to give you references. I've found some good photographers on there. I pretty much delete any email that's poorly written, sounds creepy, or proposes anything unusual (in a weird way). If they seem businesslike and conduct themselves appropriately, you're usually good to go.

The first time I went on OMP was 5 years ago when it was sooo slow you had to click a page and wait 20 minutes for it to load.... then again and again.

I have a copy-paste form I send out to potential photographers. If they dont take the time to fill it out (which about 70% will not) then obviously I dont want to work for them because they dont really care about me as a model. Heres what I currently send to potential photographers...

Thanks for your interest in working with me in the near future. As my profile says I am booking shoots from May thru August of this year. I am currently setting up paid shoots. If you are interested in doing a shoot with me I ask that you take a few minutes and answer the following questions. This would be for both of our records so there are no misunderstandings and so we are on the same page! If you are a manager/agent I am not interested in having a manager/agent at this time so please disreguard this email. Thanks!

    Name
    Location
    Phone
    Type of shoot
    3 References (please include OMP#s)
    Pay (rate/hr) or TFP/CD
When you would like to shoot?
How long would the shoot be?
    Indoor or Outdoor?
If indoor, is this a hotel, house, or studio?
If outdoor, are you interested in some of my locations like woods, fields, lakes and waterfalls? (I live in Auburn near Sacramento)

    ~XOXO

p.s. the reason I say leave OMP# is so I can contact the model directly through OMP. Any moron can open a free yahoo account and pretend to be a model.
