    Default Temporary space lessee?

so i go back to my regular out of town club. i get handed a new application with a contract. i have never had to sign a contract with anything other than the rules. i know alot of you chain girls (vu etc) and northeastern girls have to do this. so my question is are you called temporary space lessee's? basically what it is saying is we are not employees and have no rights to sue the business for anything including injury or death. i realise that this is a cover your ass type of thing and i will have to sign. responsible for our own taxes, conduct and actions. i just thought it was interesting that they didn't even try the independent contractor thing. is this something new or is this standard now?

oh and they also asked marital status, number of children and height, weight. arent those questions highly illegal? or is this allowed in a non employee agreement. like i said i know i will have to sign and i have no problem with that just curious.

I think this is the way they do it at Deja Vu. Shit, most of the clubs I've worked in recently barely have it together enough to get ID and SS cards when you're hired, much less have you sign a contract.

I've worked at places that phrase it like that. I think they are stealing the wording from beauty salons, but it amounts to the same thing as independent contractor.

The thing with the personal information, it sounds more like a credit aplication then it does a job aplication. These questions would be standard on a residential lease aplication, and I bet that the owners of your club just used a standard lease form that they can get at Staples or Office Max. The height and weight thing is kind of weird, tho...

Anyway, I wouldn't sweat it. The club is trying to find a way to avoid reporting that the dancers are employees, and therefore aviod paying taxes and wages on the girls. legally.

I've signed things that go through the whole Not Liable crap. That's fairly standard as far as I know. I've never worked for a chain, though. I really cant recall what term was used to define the dancer, however... Hmmm.

As for the martial status and dependants? It may just be so that they can estimate how much personal drama you might have that would keep you from work, or call you away from work, yanno? I dont think it's illegal to ask, since you arent an employee. Hell, I've had actual employers ask these questions on job applications for that reason. They want any reasons that you might have an emergency to be called away from work. Actual employers cant not hire you based on it... I THINK. But in this case? Unless you're on payroll, it's they're call. You dont HAVE to fill it out, I'm sure... but if you dont, they may keep that in mind.

Height and weight seem rather standard to me as well, especially in clubs that actually keep high standards on their dancers, as well as the super strict ones that make you weigh in from time to time...

I dunno. Doesnt seem TOO odd, but not fun either.

Sounds exactly like the Deja Vu thing I had to sign to work at Hustler. Your managers probably got their hands on one of their contracts and copied it. bleh
