Default isn't PBS supposed to represent all American viewpoints ?

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX WED MAY 11, 2005 22:00:01 ET XXXXX

"DEM CONGRESSMEN: CONSERVATIVE VOICES ON PBS MAY BE ILLEGAL

Two congressional Democrats called Wednesday for an investigation into recent activities by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, suggesting that efforts by the Republican chairman of the private nonprofit to add more conservative programs onto PBS may violate federal law.

In a letter released Wednesday evening, Rep. David Obey, D-Wis., and Rep. John D. Dingell, D-Mich., asked CPB Inspector General Kenneth A. Konz to investigate the contracting, hiring and policies of the corporation, which distributes federal funds to public television stations. Both congressmen are ranking Democrats on committees that have oversight of public television.

They called recent actions taken by CPB Chairman Kenneth Tomlinson ``disturbing' and ``extremely troubling.'

A CPB spokesman could not be reached for comment. But in a recent interview with the LOS ANGELES TIMES, Tomlinson defended his efforts to expand conservative perspectives on PBS, saying he merely wants to increase the network's audience. "

In my opinion, PBS is one of the biggest wastes of taxpayer money around. Don't anyone bother quoting my stuff like, taxes is just 10% of their budget. I don't care if it's 1%, it's money spent for nothing.

Oh give me a break. It's PBS. Name me the last time it was a significant media power. On the other hand, its childrens' programming is the only decent stuff for kids around.

Ever priced any of that Sesame Street merchandise? It's always about 50% more than comparable stuff without Big Bird's image on it. Sesame Street should be paying PBS for airing their shows, not the other way around.

Personally, I don't care if PBS is liberal or conservative. I don't see it as a proper use of tax money.

    My 2 peso's...

First off,how the hell do you represent ALL american viewpoints??
Trust me folks, you DONT want MY viewpoints on PBS for your kids!(can i get an AMEN HK?lol)

You wont get one"taste"of america's melting pot from any one spoonfull.
    So why try??

All i ask for my cut of the taxes paid is,tow the social standard voted line, dont put a purse on tinkee winkee.
    simple.

Back in the day, before internet porn and cable/satelites,you had 4 choices.
    ABC
    NBC
    CBS
    PBS

The ONLY time PBS was on was when the kids were awake and the kid shows were on.
(can i get an AMEN from the 30 something crowd?)

All I want from PBS is to keep the twins entertained long enough for me to get my first cup of coffee in me in the morning.

Then they lose out to thier real demise.Nick Jr,the disney channel,Dora, and the wiggles.

The last thing i want from PBS is to be ground breaking.

Reflect the social standard, keep the kids from fighting till i get my dose of columbian,im ok with the tax.
If people expect TNT or HBO for the tax funding they get, think again.

end the cartelization of the airwaves!

De-nationalize the airwaves and end government involvement in any media.

pbs is nothing but a series of begformercials and a waste of the radio spectrum. There are 4 or 5 PBS stations within 60 miles of here. If anything there should be one.

Technology is de-nationalizing the airwaves, the government just doesn't realize it yet. I've never given any money to PBS directly. Yes, I admit, I'm one of those that watch it without "paying" for it. However, I've paid more than I wanted for stuff with Sesame Street character's pictures on it. Can I write that off my taxes?

PBS does (especially before cable, but even now) what no other network will: take a chance on documentaries, different programming styles and content (where else do you get an entire HOUR of solid news so trusted it's what congressional aides watch to write reports) and technology advances (first satellite, first color broadcast, first HDTV transmission...

I used to produce NOVA and SCI-AM shows ... alot of negatives about PBS too...but it's needed'

and the CPB money isn't ahuge %...it's important, but you have more fat in one defense contract than in 10 PBS years.

Biggest reason: it's the only network that in ANY way can be said to truly belong to the viewers...whether through taxes (small portion as I said) or fund drives...we're the reason (not Nike or Hummer ads) they've existed and thrived for 20 years. And even f you watch ONE PBS show (or listen to) a year...or hear about it, or use unbiased research tat comes from the documentaries...it's worth it

PBS is largely funded by citizens and foundations.

As with NPR, there's no question that some of their staff (and therefore their editorial bias) is clearly Leftist, but on balance, it's still a value to the nation as a whole.

PBS could be a LOT worse.

For example it could be FOX.

At least PBS does not have a stupid morning coffee show.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.
