    Default Credit Report Question

I got a copy of my credit report yesterday. There are a few accounts that say I owe money and haven't payed. But there is no amount shown that I owe. It doesn't even tell me the collection agency that's pursuing this. Then when I click for the details they leave no information. So I can't find out who I owe, why I owe them, how much I owe them, or even how to pay them. I think that they're old copayments from before I was even eighteen (mom wasn't good with bills). So what can I do? Is this disputable? Thanks

Yes it's absolutely disputable. This will force the credit reporting agency to provide you with details behind these questionable line items on your credit report. You can then individually challenge their validity.

I recently had a similar entry appear on my own credit report. I eventually discovered that it originated with a doctor 60 miles away from where I live whom I had never heard of or been a patient of, having treated a different patient with the same name as mine who had not paid her bill.

It IS disputable...and if the originating agency cannot come up with the rock-hard proof that YOU are the creditor on the account within 30 days of being notified by the CRA of the dispute...then by law the credit reporting agency has to delete it from your report.

Do not let this stuff go.

Oh, by the way...make sure you check for "duplicate" entries. Scorpio had a parking ticket on his credit report (which was paid and never reported, whatever). The SAME ticket showed up 7 times on his report! Multiple entries like that can really screw up your score!! In Scorpio's case, it dropped his credit score some 25 points! That's a lot of points and a big difference in finance rates!!

If you do not agree with ANYTHING in your credit report...dispute it! Make the companies PROVE you are the proper creditor they are reporting on.

Some of the problems is in the data-entry...one single number off and the credit reporting goes to a different person.

Check, double check and triple check your reports.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I'm going through a similar situation and found this page to really help with the letter writing to preserve your rights. I've gotten parts of the bunk account removed so far, and I think the rest will be resolved shortly!
...and the day came, when the risk it took to remain closed in a bud became worse than the risk it took to blossom.

that is a very helpful link indeed, Gerina. It is truly amazing what sort of bizarre odds and ends can bogusly show up on credit reports. A favorite one is some doctor's office which has two or more patients of the same name, one is delinquent in paying the doctor but has a 'fluid' address, and you happen to have the same name and a valid address but don't owe the doctor any money !

If you have several bad debt collections contact cornerstone wealth. If you have no time to dispute them yourself it is worth paying someone to do it. What you pay to them to delete inaccurate charge offs and increase your credit /beacon score will save you many $$$ and hastle in the future when purchasing or getting a loan.

Actually, you can literally do this for a couple of bucks on each CRA website. All you do is click on every single item you want to dispute, click dispute and the CRA handles it from there. In the old days when you had to write letter after letter, etc...it was easier to have these companies you are talking about do it for you. But, nowadays, the CRA's all have very user friendly sites enabling you to do your own disputing and cleaning up your report.
