    How do I change...?

So ladies...I am both blessed and cursed.

I have been a size 0 for as long as I can remember...always the littlest one...however, recently I have been gaining weight and I don't know what to do! I eat whatever I want whenever I want and I have never exercised. I have never had to try on clothes and I have never been concerned about the way I look, but now my clothes are not fitting quite right and I can tell the day after a junk food binge, that my body has actually stored away all those calories instead of burning them off as usual.

This whole change is really confusing to me and I don't know how to change my entire way of living. Any suggestions? How do I begin exercising and eating right. I don't even know how to do anything! I don't know what kind of shoes to buy, what kind of exercizes to do, how much to eat...how to express restraint, etc.

    I NEED SUPPORT!
I feel like a stranger in my own skin.

This happened to me. Up until my mid-twenties, keeping weight off was easy. Then boom, pudge that wouldn't go away.
Find exercise you like, so you'll do it. Often. Then change your diet- less junk. Not none, that's a joyless life. But there will come a point where you won't miss the junky food you cut out..I promise.
Right now, I made a reward system up- I was getting desperate. Like, ice cream once a week for sticking with diet and exercise plan. Only drink when really neccessary. (Or you "deserve" it.) Some people set up diets where the weekend is their "free time" to eat what they want (in moderation) and the week is diet time (easy to do with a regular job schedule.)
See if you can get a friend or family member to exercise with you, so someone will be reminding you to do so (and vice versa).
Check out the Tonalin threads here....it works differently for different people, but overall, is worth trying.
PS Don't spend too much on running shoes..if you run enough, they'll wear out fast. Big 5 has a lot of good pairs for $30-$50, sale prices.

That JUST happened to me, luckily I caught on really fast..
I went from sometimes less than a 4-5 to 6-7... A big deal if you are used to being itty bitty..
I started to excercise a bit more, but also started to watch what I eat. It's hard at first, but I substituted white bread for whole grain, pasta for wheat pasta.. I slightly changed my recipes to be more healthy adns tarted to drink LOTS more milk only 2% instead of whole.
Just start out small, look at what you eat and how you can improve andthen go from there and eventually even pizze doens't taste the same and you nolonger crave it.
I didn't give up EVERYTHING I like, I just changed how much I ate and what types of things I ate... Like veggies instead of snacks, yogurt instead of a big sandwhich... cooking insteadof microwaving (it made me tired so I didn't want to eat.)
Now, just a few months later (yes, months, yikes) I'm back down to 5-ish 6 (not entirely tiny, but happy-looking), but I don't have scary stretch marks, and I got to keep the breasts.. yay.
Plus I take tonalin, which I think helped, not sure, but you never know!
    Good luck!
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

welcome to your mid-twenties. Wait until mid-thirties. Supposedly your metabolism drops some more then too!

I moved to Austin five years ago. I was at about 110 then and I'm 5'9. I was a size zero and I LOVED it. I was very active before I moved here. Then, once I got here, I got depressed because I knew absolutely no one and would sit in my house and followed the same un-healthy diet I did before but because I was no longer working two fast paced jobs and dancing competively with practice five days a week for two hours at a time, the weight packed on and fast! I was up to 140 nearly before I knew it. 140 is supposedly my "ideal" body weight according to some websites....but a healthy 140 is not anything like the 140 I was.

Now, I'm down to about 118-120lbs. Much happier but still have serious body image issues. I just keep telling myself my stomach is flat, be happy.

Start easy LittleLina. Cut out processed sugars and all that junk. Still have your junk food but try to eat it early in the day so you can burn it off. Cut out soda's and stop eating at least 3 hours before bed time. You'll drop 5lbs+ in no time!

    Right on Miss Taylor.

I was very skinny at 21 when i first started dancing. I had tiny boobs. As i watched the years go up so did my weight. I loved it! I had curves, boobs!

But i know what you mean, there is a limit, now i have to walk and shit to keep it off.

You're body is changing, pure and simple! Start eating more fruits and vegetables, and drink lots of water, take a Multi. and be active.

I think you will do fine.

This doesn't have to be the case. If you eat healthy and exercise regularly...you don't have to have the "30's curse".

My advice is to accept the changes (no guilt trips) and start cleaning out your cupboards/fridge. There's nothing wrong with a binge food...but if you keep that crap in your house...you are more likely to eat it more often. Go to a whole foods type store and stock up on foods that are not processed/filled with preservatives, etc. Replace some of your "sweet tooth" cravings with fruits instead of candy, etc.

Begin an easy to stick with exercise routine. Walk for 30-45 minutes a day at a brisk pace...go to the gym and learn how to properly weight lift.

You don't have to be a "statistic"...but you have to be active in preventing that.

You should read the book Body For Life. It will teach you about making a lifestyle change instead of going on a diet. It has great workout tips, and great mealplans, that can help you to change your whole lifestyle, I read it and I loved it.
"There is an inner beauty about a woman who believes in herself, who knows she is capable of anything she puts her mind to. There is a beauty in the strength and determination of a woman who follows her own path, who isn't thrown off by obstacles along the way. There is a beauty about a woman whose confidence comes from experience. Who knows she can fail, pick herself back up and go on... This woman is you. You are strong, you have inner and outer beauty, you are amazing" (anonymous).

So much truth in there it should be chiseled in stone.

I was the same way, Every since high school i was teeny, then i hit 21! and the drinking binges began! At least they did last summer. I've stopped that since then, but over the course of a year or so I watched my weight go up, and my pant sizes go with it. I used to fit in 0's too, I was about to hit the 7 mark when I decided enough was enough. I watch what I eat, I jog for 30-45 minutes on as many mornings as possible (about 4-5 a week) and I've watched my weigth go down, my body get toned, and my clothes are fitting better. OH and I've been taking Tonalin which helps break down the bad fats, and turns fat into lean muscle mass instead of storing it! it's great! I have some pics posted somehwere (I think under the cellulite post in body business) that change was two weeks difference. I've lost even more since those pics. I'll be posting again sooN!

My routine (please make any comments as to additions, substitutions, or things to take out completely):

    Vitamins:
    Omega-3
    Women's High Potency
    Wal*Mart Hair vitamins
    Tonalin

    1 qt. water/day
    2 cups herbal tea/day
    1 cup juice/day

    Breakfast:
Bowl of Blueberry Morning with 2% milk
    fruit cup (2 servings)

    Snack:
    Nuts (usually almonds)

    Lunch:
    Salad with meat and eggs

    Snack:
Junk food (my once a day alotment so I don't crave bad things too much): usually a small bag of Spicy Cheetos.

    Dinner:
    Lean Cuisine Spa meal
    Extra helping of steamed veggies

I'm on my feet for 7 hours/day so I don't do much exercise, but I am doing 2 sets of the following each day:
    50 crunches
    15 push-ups
100 leg lifts (you know the dog peeing on the fire hydrant looking move)
    15 tricept push-ups

Does this sound like a good regime?
    THANKS LADIES!

Sounds great!!!! But i don't care what anyone says, our bodies DO change, even at you're age, you don't have to be 30 or 40 to start seeing small changes. Just as our skin will change with a few wrinkles showing up for some people at age 21, so do our bellies and breasts etc.

We eat better and workout more! But we are still going to change inside and out, you can't stop it.

Love you're changes, accept them, but keep doing what works for you. Find a plan, a gym. PS, i looked at my 21 year old babay sitter once and i see the changes..a small belly, and she has changed nothing about her diet. She is growing up, and filling out more. Our bodies peak very young, and change from then on out. We maintain what we have after that!!

Have fun!!! Sounds like you are doing great!!!
