Default Help with a Lazy DJ

I was sent home the other day b/c I got into an argument w/ the DJ. I was the first one on for the night, but the DJ ust left some techno mix cd that has the same 5 songs playing (he lets it play as the everyone is just coming in.) I asked him to change the music so that I could go on stage. He said no, and I explained to to him that this is tha same set of songs that has been playing for hours. He told me "just get on the stage shake your ass and collect your tips-whats the problem!" thats when i got upset and said that i wouldnt go onstage unless he changes the music.

He goes and tattletails to the manager. I even explained to the manager that he does this all the time. I told the DJ in front everyone that he is lazy and never wants to work w/ anyone...and the manager sent me home.

Im getting really tired of this guys attutude and lazyness. Im mad that I was sent home b/c he was an asshole to me, when all I did was ask him to change the CD to start for the night.

the promotions person told me that i should talk to the owner about this, but in the meantime I still have to deal with the DJ's bullshit. what should i do?

Well,if your looking for alot of entertainers to tell you what an asshole the dj is being, you posted in the right place.

I wonder if anyone has the balls to say,"you should have shut up and danced"?

You would not have taken the night off and lost money.

You could go to the owner after money making is done.

In a perfect world,DJ's and dancers would perform for 1 as they would for a room of 1000,but they dont, you dont, and nobody else does.

In the future i would tell the dj that its NOT downtime for you and a music change would make you money, anything but starting a confrontation with your support staff and being sent home is better.

You should have kept your mouth shut about the dj being lazy, ect ect, and you would have probably gotten somewhere. Thats why the manager sent you home, because you were probably acting like a child calling the dj out in front of everyone. I had that happen to me once too, the dj wouldnt play music I wanted to dance to, so I went to the mgr and calmly told him behind a closed door that the dj was a dumbass and he better change the cd, because Im the one getting naked, and if Im getting naked, I darn well better be able to do it to the music I want. I do understand your problem though, and I know it can be hard at times, but try to stay calm, you will get SO much farther when you do.

Sometimes you have to feed the God complex of lazy DJs and complain to the management later.

Christ, I have seen and heard about some incredibly moronic DJs.

Like guys who take three months to figure out a dancer likes White Zombie, even though they are trying to fuck her, lol...

But then I have seen some pretty stupid dancers as well, like tonight for instance...

If what you are saying is accurate, the guy is an idiot. But if the manager is on his side, you don't have much choice but to try and figure out a way to deal with him. Making a scene almost never works, for either the DJ or the dancer, if there's a problem.

I try at all costs to avoid going to the manager with a problem about a dancer. I have done it twice in over five years. It might solve the problem temporarily, but then there is hostility from her and her friends, and you look weaker for having to go to the authority--especially if they are an asshole too, as is often the case.
