Yeah. I live in a small town outside of SF and these f**kers have nothing better to do at 3 am. So I get pulled over and I got a ticket for . . hold on tight. . 50mph in a 45mph. Yep. 5 stinkin miles. He actually wrote me the ticket. I was in such shock for like a week. I went to court and fought it becuase it was so ridiculous. I dressed all buiness like and looked all pretty, and spoke eloquently. The judge waived the fees and basically made the thing dissapear, he agreed with me that the ticket was stupid. Oh and yeah, the cop even showed up to court! Tellin' ya these cops out here have NOTHING to do.

I live in a small town area where the cops are pushed to write tickets= revenue for the county, so....I did get a ticket for something like three to five miles over the limit.
One third of the time, the cops won't show up in court for a small offense- they have to come on their day off to testify in traffic court.
I contested the above ticket in court, the cop never showed, boom, it disappeared.
Depending on the circumstances, you can fight the ticket. Or, ask to go to traffic school to have it excused. Good luck.

There are a few possible ways to fight a ticket. Some states don't allow towns to have speedtraps, defined as a town that gets x% of its income from the speedtrap. Another way is to prove that the officer did not actually clock you by radar or had no reason to do so.
For example, the officer will usually recite a "script" that the radar manufacturer provides such as I observed the vehicle and thought they were speeding so I then pointed my radar gun and it determined that their speed was in excess... or something like that. So first they needed to be able to observe you for a second, take a second to aim the radar, and have enough time to get the results. There is also a mathematical factor called cosine error which may also work in your favor (has to do with the angle the would have had to aim their radar). Depending on the geography and shape of the road you may be able to prove that the officer did not actually do what he claimed he did according to his script. (What he actually did was probably: aimed the radar without any probable cause and and got a reading which said...). You can also prove a pattern of lies by looking at other case records, etc.

    Omigod, thank you Myssi!

I just got my SECOND ticket in 2 months today (new bmw) and it was obvious the officer went after my nice car, because ALL of the drivers on the road were speeding. He followed me across 3 lanes and for several minutes before he even put the siren on.....

Then, he had me get out of the car just to sign the ticket so he could check me out and hit on me, fuckstick!!!!! Every other ticket I've ever had in 12 years of driving they just had me sign the stupid ticket while sitting in the car........

Then he threw me a bone and said I could asked for deferred adjudication...except I have another ticket pending in another county...dammit!!

    Angry Re: speeding tickets

Talk about ‘Fuckstick Cops’! You will never believe what happened to me TWO nights running after leaving the club:

1- I drive a Nissan Silvia (an import for Australia, mine is lowered, painted and modified - cop bait ). I was pulled over for doing an illegal left turn in a right only street Cops hit on me, didn’t even breath-o me or check my licence nothing . I even confessed i had been drinking while working at the Club that night (they knew which one it was i worked at and got all excited when i told them). Cant believe they let me go.

2-The very next night i get pulled over again (i reckon they told their friends to go sit on the same road i was coming home on and look for my car cos the came straight after me when there were other cars on the road beside me) pulled me over asked to check my licence. Asked me if i was on my way home from work or something? (sus?) i said yes from the Spearmint Rhino. They also got all excited and even asked if i had a boyfriend and if i wanted to come out with him and the boys drinking one night!?!? Can you fucking believe that...?! Wait there’s more... He asked for my personal mobile number (didnt want to say no cos dont want a ticket for the mods on my car) so i give them a fake number. THEN the next day i get a msg on my phone asking if i still wanted to go out for drinks!?!?!!! WTF? He had looked up my person file and got my personal details. What a FUCKSTICK!!!! They are not supposed to do this unless I was under any suspicion and they let me go without even a warning. And these are supposed to be the people protecting me in my society… Bullshit. And they wonder why they don’t have any respect from the public.

I am not going to jinx myself and brag about running nitrous in my car and doing great. So, i do drive fast, know most of the "fishing holes" they sit at during the nights. Days, it's a whole other story. Actually cool, because people like me need to stop speeding, and this has made me aware.

We have men who dress in regular clothes like a workman stand near poles on roads that are known to have people driving fast, and down the road..say a few more blocks a police officer hides his marked car near trees, and gets up to the pole aiming his radar down the street. I really don't know the purpose of the first guy you seem to always pass, maybe giving a heads up because radar only shoots so far?? But they have this figured out pretty good.

In my area they take speeding very seriously, as they do the seat belt law now too.

These "speed traps" will make you think twice about following the car ahead of you who is a tad over the limit, and you're car is alot hotter. They will always grab the nice car it seems.

I had one fifteen years ago for doing 41 in a 35 zone, which I knew was bullshit.

If you can fight the ticket, I highly recommend doing so. Aside from possible points on your license, the biggest part of your "fine" isn't so much the fine itself, but its when your insurance company finds out about it and jacks up your premium.

It depends on what you mean by "speeding"

I went to court to fight a ticket when I was caught going 35 in a 30...
although most cops won't do that!!
The Judge ruled guilty and told me that 31 in a 30 is speeding...

I'd just ask for Court Supervision now, unless it's a matter a principal.

I always fight my tickets. I haven't had one in Florida, just in New Orleans. Don't want to jinx myself though by saying that.

Bunny to let you know here in Florida (my part anyway) we have a 1 day 6 hour class you can take, this way you have no points going on you're DL. You will keep you're "safe driver" on it. However i believe you can only take this class 4 times in you're life of driving, then you're out with points going against you.

My friend took the class 3 times....

About 2.5 years ago I was late getting home (I still lived with my parents at the time) so I was going 53 in a 30 mph zone and got pulled over. The cop let me off with a verbal warning! Yay for me!

Then last week I got a ticket for "running" a stop sign. I did stop, but apparently the cop wanted to pull me over anyway. This manly-looking women runs up to the car, and screams "you ran the stop sign!" Then she proceeded to tell me that all 4 wheels on the car need to be stopped at a sign.... I didn't know 1 or 2 wheels could still be moving... stupid cop.

I'm going to court to fight that ticket. But otherwise, I've never gotten any tickets. I consider myself pretty lucky, especially with all the street racing I've done.

I've talked my way out of every speeding ticket I've gotten. It was nice when I was friends with the kids of the Captain of the police squad...just a name drop and most cops were like, "Cool...have a good night."

Have had a cop chase me down to tell me that I turned on a yellow light, though. How lame, I told him it was traffic controlled and just cuz his turn light went yellow doesn't mean mine did. Oy vey. Some cops have nothing better to do.

Also there's online traffic school-- which is pretty easy and shorter than the six hour day classes. I also tried to fight mine once, and dressed really nicely while everyone else around was dressed like shit. My next lesson was not to fight a fine dressed so nicely--because then the judge believed I had money enough to pay it (even though it was back when I was a lowly minimum wager). So--if you do fight it, dress like you made an effort but not like you have money.

    good luck!
