"RIP THE SYSTEM"
I use a debit card rather than a credit card. I also drive a car that I rescued from the wreckers. I think it's great with comfortable leather seats, and no worries about it getting scratched.
I'm working on getting a bigger house though.![]()
No, it sounds like you simply are not wanting to be "owned" by things.
That's fine. Very admirable. Most people get bogged down trying to live up to the "gotta have the newest and biggest and best of everything" mentality.
Don't deprive yourself...but the things you mentioned above never made anyone happy.![]()
Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but...
If you pay bills in your name and have a bank account, then you do have credit, or at least a credit rating - not paying your bills on time and bouncing checks affects your credit rating too. Maybe you don't have those things, though, I don't know.
I can hear where you're coming from, and I don't think it is wrong to not want those things.
"I still have my name
I still have my face
I have not run away from home
Doesn't seem so long
If I now embrace
Every single thing I've never known"
There's nothing wrong with that but it's too idealistic and unrealistic for me. I have to have money to eat, a house to live in, and a car to drive. I have all but whatever works for you.
Would you give Bollinger and smoked salmon a higher priority than a new BMW though?
Ever tried to rent a car without a credit card?
There's a big difference between having a credit card and having credit card debt. Credit card debt is a real drain on your finances. On the other hand, a credit/debit card can make travelling and shopping a lot easier. New cars lose much of their value before the smell is gone. It can be nice owning your own home, but it also ties you down. Pursue your own dreams.

yes, you're 'financially responsible' and financially realistic - very Un-American these days LOL !
You're wrong. Unless you filled out a credit application to get those utilities, it will not show up on your credit report. The bank does not report to the credit bureaus unless you overdraw your account and never touch it again.Originally Posted by CrescentLuna
As for renting cars, there are some places that will rent a car to you if you put enough cash down...show them your drivers license...and are staying in state.
I love what I have...but sometimes, I wish I just had a little less (in bills, at least). Heh
