Default Senate Plays by 2 different sets of Rules I guess !

... it appears Dusty Harry et al have just been 'called' for a much more serious violation of Senate rules than they've been hounding Tom DeLay about !

    Well,
In terms of ethics, I don't know if it is more serious than Delays issues. But I think if we remove ourselves from the fray whether Dem or Repub and classify ourselves as citizens and them as Senators, we have to ask ourselves, "what the hell are these idiots really accomplishing for the country?"

With the deficit out of control, the war in Iraq, our priority is to talk about steriod use in sports. Is that a national priority?

And, is the implication that what Delay did is O.K. now that we have a counter pointless Dem. to point at, or are you saying "dump them both"?

As a quasi-libertarian, and as one who is very upset by the gradual migration of politicians from the founding father's idea of a 'citizen senator' who would serve for a term or two and then go back to 'real life' towards today's career politicians whose #1 goal and duty (to themselves) is doing whatever is necessary to be re-elected regardless of the long-term consequences to the country, I'm saying dump them ALL !!!!!

The reason that I posted this particular thread was the rampant hypocracy it embodies - but these days there is so much of that going on that registered voters apparently don't even take notice anymore.

Mel's reference to a 'citizen senator' recalls either George Washington or the Roman dictator Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus who had assumed near total control of Rome to meet a war emergency. When the battle was won, he returned control to the Senate and went back to plowing his fields. He has often been considered an example of good leadership, service to the public good, and the virtue of modesty. In contrast, Byrd has been a senator since 1959...46 years, Leahy since 1975, Reid since 1987. Some people don't know when it is time to leave.

Myssi...the majority of congress/senate seats get power based on seniority ... this is WRONG, ANTITHETICAL to what the foudning fathers wanted, but it is the reality our bureaucracy created...

question is, are we willing to trim the fat, get off the pork barrel and change it.

Speaking for myself, bring on the term limits - empty the pork barrel - and let the chips fall where they may !
