Default how to learn- makeup application??

does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about learning how to apply makeup?? i know practice makes perfect, but i dont even know where to start...if i try anything new w/ my makeup i end up looking like a clown. i only wear makeup at work, so am basically interested in learning how to apply dramatic makeup, rather than the basic, minimal use of makeup that i now apply before work...its barely noticable once im out on the floor. are there classes you can take or places to go for this sort of thing?

I would first start out looking @ magazines. Go to library, or Borders, take a couple stacks of mags & read thru. Many of 'em have very in depth explanation of dramatic & other makeup styles. I luv to get new ideas this way. Or, you could try a dept. store makeup counter, they offer "makeovers" usually free, tho they expect a product purchase. Sometimes Sephora of Ulta beautystores have mini makeup/skincare workshops, I think.

Go to the library and check out the recent books on make-up. Kevin Aucoin has 2 that are absolutely wonderful!! I also get a lot of my ideas from magazine ads. I believe that MAC also has make-up/color application classes a couple times a year. Check out your local MAC store for more info.

Finding the best ways to "outline" your eyes is best. Knowing what type of eyes you have will enable you to most effectively apply eye make-up (which is always the hardest).

Wish i could chime in on this one, but i as well could use help in that department. I did get the Kevin Aucoin book (it's pretty big, right) and all seemed well, but when i try....SHIT i looked like a whore. I just can't get it right.
Under lights dancing it did not realy matter, but i never wore that much anyway. Now out in the world (days) i want to look "polished" but not slutty. So i guess i do less is more...Dunno.
