    Default faking an accent

I have been dancing off and on for 3 years and have never quite gotten the hang of it. I am attractive, and I dance quite well on stage. I am just not a people person, and often do not enjoy it...especially lately. I am almost finished with dealer school (I live in Las Vegas), and will only have to dance a few more times. Honestly, I dread it. I work in a gigantic club with hundereds of beautiful women. I have no idea what the hussle is. Each girl has their own, and most are not very friendly to other girls. Most nights, I just chicken out and do not go. We do not have schedules, you come and go as you please for a fee of $50.

Has anyone ever tried to fake an accent. I was thinking about pretending not to know much english and the just sitting and smiling and trying to understand what the guys say to me and in the end, just saying, "lap dance now?"

Please tell me, does this sound stupid? If so, please offer some other tips. At first I did not mind dancing, but I guess some of us grow out of it. I always stumble up in real conversations, and to be honest, I really hate even talking to the guys.

    Thanks.

Doesnt sound stupid to me, but some of the other girls might rat you out to a customer if they get word of it. I know most foreign girls do make good money though. Couldnt hurt to try. And um..*peers* Nevermind, heh..

Sure, if I'm not in the mood for BS, and the club is busy enough, I just use my russian accent that I lost years ago, and agressivley come up to men, point, nod, and say, "dance, da?"

Since east europe girls are known to be hustlers and have a good mileage reputation, it works for me, but I don't do it often.

If you do choose an accent make sure its one you do perfectly, and know about the country you are from. Say you are froma small town in that country in case they have been there and know trivia about it.

Does anyone have advice on how to learn a quick good accent? I liked "Dance,ya?". I do not really want to talk to the guys so I want to be able to act like I don't know much English.

Thanks for the advice. Please keep it coming. I might go in later tonight.

Someone will call inevitably call you out if you cannot speak another language. Fake accents sound horrible (ref: Keanu Reeves) unless the person has a gift (ref: Jodie Foster).

Why not try to speak very proper English, a dialect so rare that it sounds foreign? It sounds like Audrey Hepburn's speech, very easy to pull off.

An accent won't work if you can't sell it. "people' skills aren't what you need to worry about. You just neeed to be able to suspend your own reality. I spend most of my club time with dancers who have real accents. The accents are sexy as hell but the girls make money because they are good actresses.

I think you should speak like Andy Kaufmann's Foreign Man character that he used on Taxi.

Sincerity is always a better way to go. Dancers are already perceived as being fake my many customers so why perpetuate on this with a fake accent? Not only that, but let's say you sit down with a customer and are faking a russian accent and then he starts talking to you in Russian? Now you've been called on this and unless you are fluent in the language, you're going to look foolish. Lizette and Yoda are right, learn proper English and speak well, not speak with a fake accent and you'll do better.

I agree with others on this one.If you don't have a natural foreign accent while speaking english, the fake one will sound fake, and you might get caught. But you can try it anyways and see what happens. But try faking something easier, like a british or a kockney (sp?) accent, which is actually english language, but with different dialect. If you try russian, french, german etc,it would be hard to keep it up anyways,I'm guessing, especially if you have to keep a conversation. The bottom line IMO is still personality and sales skills.

I have to agree with not faking an accent, especially if you don't know a thing about the language or area.

In a large city like Vegas where you're likely to run into customers from all over the world, even trying to fake a British accent, or even a Southern US accent, could get you busted and cause you to lose money.

Well, she likely won't be faking an accent for more than just a few words...it sounds like she wants to use it as a creative way to get guys into the booth quicker and with less argument.

It sounds like an OK plan...I'll bet it backfires at some point, but maybe that's not a big deal? If you get 10 extra dances a night and lose 2 because of being caught out...

Would only work in a place that no one knows you, though.

Let us know how it goes if you try it!

I'm Asian and sometimes make the most money when I fake the fresh off the boat accent. " Haro, how wa yoo? Wan dan?" Not want dance, but 'wan dan?'. I've stopped though, because it got tiring and some assholes want a non-threatening and naive Asian wife, which meant they would try harder to see me out of the club. I have to admit I'm a pretty good actress and my ethnicity helps but you have to either talk like that all the time or not at all. Once, a had a customer say "God! I looove your accent...it's soooo sexy". It does turn alot of guys on, if it's done right.

I agree that faking it could be difficult if you can't maintain it or get caught out. Some guys want to talk even more, ask you stuff about where you are from just to hear your accent.

I am British and work in a British club and am usually very well spoken, often i play up my upper class accent and the thought of having someone 'well-bred' dance for them has the guys rushing to the booth. Perhaps you could work to refine your own accent and become the polite, well spoken lady of the club - it may be something you could base a whole persona on, come up with some story about a bankrupt father and boarding school education - get creative. If you have a good story then you'll feel much more confident about speaking to customers and telling your story, leading up to asking for a dance.

I have thought about faking an accent several times also. My friend is from the czech republic and she has a very sexy accent. She also does not have to talk to guys for that long before they are getting dances from her. However, like most others have said, I do not know that you will be able to pull this off. It sounds like your looking for something to make you stand out from the rest of the Vegas girls. An accent does distinguish one girl from the next, but perhaps try something else that will make you stand out. This may sound retarted but I just got long long extensions that make my hair look great, nice, big and full. I flip my hair around and guys looooooooove it! This makes me stand out from the rest. Being that you work in vegas and are around hundreds of women, you need to work harder on a look that makes you different.

hey.. it works for some girls..

I know a girl with a fake russian accent. i had no idea until i talked to her in the back...

If you can pull it off, without being fake. (like know some of the language) i would say try it and see how it works.

You could go trashy, and fake a down-home american, country girl accent. Watch a couple Jerry Springer shows and imitate appropriately but in a sweet way; maybe even pretend to be naive.

Or you could just face your anxiety and find a way to be sincere. It's all about whatever makes you feel confident.

i'm asian. i once tried to fake a MILD accent. nobody mentioned the "accent," but i DID get more dances when i used it....at least for a little bit. i don't really think it was the accent, though..i think it was moreso the confidence that accompanied the accent. i figured that an accent was sexier..therefore, i felt better and more confident..which landed me more dances. as i said, it helped for a little bit. eventually, i just stopped.

i know what you mean about not liking talking to customers. i really am not a people person in many situations. i hate making small talk; i hate bullshitting. i used to think this was what you had to do. perhaps it's just the club i work at, at the moment..but the guys here don't like smalltalk, etiher. i mean, they might like it, but i get more money when i just talk dirty. and i dont mean dirty dirty..i mean more just about sex..and making references. or when i talk about how they need to relieve stress because they had a stressful day, etc. i dont waste time and mess around with "oh yes, the weather was beautiful today!"...at least most of the time. i still do that sometimes. doing it less, however, makes me feel less burnt out.

I am new here and have not even started dancing yet so maybe my opinion is completely rubbish for the moment but why dont you just try to accentuate your american accent... why not do a heavy husky texan accent, really sexy it up... go a bit seductive with it....

Whatever you do though, dont try the south african accent!

    Re: faking an accent

It's true me and my friend we were making more money than a lot of American girls in FL because we were from Europe. People hear it immediatly and they get curious and we make them guess were we come from (noone guess Holland of course!!! They always think East of Europe don't know why!!!). Then they get curious and ask a lot of things about Holland as you know... drugs, sex, whatever... and then they all want to try a "European lapdance!". That's a gr8 thing for me when I dance in US... but on the other end I'm a bit upset that they always hear my accent immediatly!!!

I think it would be fun to catch a dancer faking an accent...better not try to fake a French accent with me, lol...

I wouldn't hold it against her, it would just be good for a laugh...

    Free advice....
I agree with Dl,it would just be good for a laugh, not a lapdance or a potential reg custie.(maybe a LD,but not alot of them)

So heres an idea,at no additional charge...

Let them in on the joke.

Then they will think its funny, then it will make you money. If they ever think,or worse, find out, your fakin, your fucked!

Be a big breasted blonde in a kimono, talking like the hooker in the movie Platoon.
    "me lubs U long time"
Find a St.Paulie beer girl outfit and talk like a german frau.
Wear a dukes of hazzard "daisy duke"outfit, and talk like flo from mels diner.

Dont do it all night, just for a set or two or until the money starts to slow down, then put that "act"away again for a few months.
To many people in clubs are regs,or semi regs. You will get busted IMO,and fakin anything is going to cost you money.

If you let people in on the joke, its all part of the show and should make you more money then the girl sitting next to you in the "school girl"outfit thats been done to death.

    Just ideas,maybe others can expand.
