    Same size forever?

Ok Ive now pretty much been the same size since mid high school. Everything leveled out and Im 135 and a size 9. Ive been a size 9 since I was 15. Eventhough Im happy with my size I wonder if I can change my body even more?
Im just curious if its possible to loose more wieght eventhough theyve been about the same size for years? Are some of us genetically stuck a certain way? Maybe Im about to go overboard but before I do I want to know if constant workouts is really going to change me and to get me where I want to be.
Just in case I really want to be a size 5-7 and 120-125lbs but lean looking. I want my hips to not be so big as well. I do like them and they are 39in at the widest part (where my butt is) and 34in at my hip bones. Before I go on this new body quest I want to make sure its possible.

Anything is possible if you approach it the right way ... it is just a matter of getting serious, eating the right things at the right times and doing the right exercise/s (types, amount and frequency). You need to really pay attention to how your body reacts to everything and learn how to adapt workouts and diet. Getting the right e-trainer can also help (wink wink nudge nudge )

I changed my body dramactically last year, I am still about the same weight, waist is a little smaller but I have alot more lean muscle and less body fat now so I look alot different! So let that be your focus, BF% is the best way to gauge process at this point.

I wish I could be the same size forever. I'm one of those folks that is not fat but has to constantly watch what goes into my mouth. It would be nice, just once to not to have to say no to some yummy food that I love.

Of course it's possible. I was a size 8 for the longest time, a good 6 or 7 years. I just accepted it as my natural bodyweight, but it really wasn't. It was simply what I allowed it to be with my lifestyle. Then one day, for some odd reason, I had enough of it, changed my lifestyle, and lost 20 pounds (I'm a 5-6 now and very toned).

It's a bit harder to do if you've been the same weight for quite a while; it's not because of genetics or anything, it's simply because your metabolism has been stuck in the same rut for years. In order to get out of your current weight, you need to redo your metabolism. For this, meeting with a nurtrionist could help, but if you don't have the time or money for that (although they are well worth it), you can redo it yourself.

Don't think constant workouts. THink an entire habit change. Whatever you eat now, do something completely different. If you are on a high protein, low carb diet, stop it! Change to lots of carbs and fruits and vegetables and dairy (just keep it under 1200-1300 calories). Just make drastic changes.

As for workouts, like above, vary your workout. If you run, do the elliptical; if you do the elliptical, take an aerbocis or martial arts class. And weights lift. Light weights, high reps helps up your metabolism too. Do them every other day (never two back to back days).

Another hint. When you're dieting, calorie intake is extremely important. A good rule of thumb is that you should take your current weight and multiply it by 11. The resulting number is how many calories you have to eat to maintain your current weight (approximately, of course. EVery person differs according to their metabolism and exercise). For you, at 135, you have to consume approximately 1485 calories to maintain your current size. To lose a half-pound to a pound a week (which is healhty weight loss...but expect to lose a bit more the first week, probably around 3 or 4) drop your calorie intake 250-500 calories (but I don't recommend you dropping below at least 1200).

    Good luck!

Kandie_kitten made some good points about drastically changing up your diet regime to 'shock' your body into gear again.... however I wouldn't recommend dropping your calories that low as your metabolisim will go into starvation mode and begin to slow down. IF you do decide to go low on calories be sure to have one or two 'high' days a week so your body doesn't adjust (also known as zig zagging or calorie cycling).

Going so low will help in the short term but what happens then... when you hit another plateau....... or when you begin to eat more.......?

A good book on this is burn the fat by Tom Venuto
    http://www.burnthefat.com/

If you want the math it is 3'500 cals over a week to lose a pound = less 500 calories a day.... BUT you want to change your body composition as much as your actual weight so numbers should really only be a guide.

Exercise levels and set point metabolisim also make a big difference to your daily calorie consumption.

Personally when I was in my 'transformation' stage I did not notice much of a difference between eating 1200 cals a day to 1600 cals. There was a big area to play with. It can also depend alot on where these calories are coming from.... calories are not all created equal

    Oh ... I am actually a nutritionist

Just to clarify, I didn't recommend she drop 500 calories. I recommended she stay around 1200 calories, which isn't starvng. That's about how much someone who weighs 115-120 eats.

Seems like I really need to buckle down more. Great advice from you guys! Its helps knowing that it IS possible. I dont mind the work- itll be hard but worth every minute. Honestly, Im scared it wont work; but its worth a good hard try.

Thats a good idea about a nutritionist; Id rather spend the extra cash on a nutrionist rather than a PT. I do have a hard time getting in all my protien since I cant eat things that live beneath water or nuts.

Ive planned a new workout...so next is my diet. Thanks for helping me...I really needed an extra push in a new direction.

In my studies, I found that CALORIES are not as important as FAT.

Calories are just a measurement of "energy" or "heat". FAT, however, is fat. And depending upon how much you put in your body per day...makes a big difference. 1200 calories a day (NOT good) with a high fat, junk food diet will not make a difference. 2000 calories a day with an extremely "low" (meaning tighter handle) on fat will make all of the difference in the world.

Don't count calories. It's not really effective and you'll only drive yourself crazy. What you should be doing is dropping out the fat (potato chips, candy bars, "diet" bars, pop, deep fried foods) and replacing what your dropping with fruits and veggies. Really tighten up your diet, hit the gym more often...punch your cardio and hit the weights and you'll see some amazing results!!

    Good luck!
