    Green Tea Recommendations

I keep reading about all of the great benefits of green tea. I had the basic Celestial Seasonings type but I hear that's crap.

So, can any green tea drinkers here recommend a good brand that offers maximum antioxidents and MAXIMUM caffeine?

    Thanks!

For caffeine, Kat, I brew some yerba mate and green tea together. the yerba mate has a great sweet flavor that doesn't overpower green tea's toasty-ness.

I get my green tea, loose leaf of course, in bulk from the local asian grocery. yummers.

This is amazing. It is better than buying it loose and brewing it (and it doesn't generally get a lot better than that). As soon as you open the box the smell alone is super great.

    Really, amazing.

    Amazing.

    Really.

If you don't want to buy it online Katrine, go to the grocery store. Lipton has a large selection of Green teas. They even have some with like Rasberry, mango, or mint flavors to mention a few.

Yep that's the truth!!! My doctor told me to stay away from that stuff with my heart problems.

Also, i did not think Green Tea had that much caffeine, does it? I have had Green Tea, and no tachycardia (racing heart.)

I just do lipton naturally decaf. which has only a tad of caffeine, because i hear ya can't pull it all out!

Listen to Bridgette.....That stuff is potent i hear!!!!

My favorite brand of tea is Republic of Tea. They have so many kinds to choose from and they have a website. They used to be carried at Borders and Barnes and Noble books stores in the cafe sections so you could try a cup of tea before you buy the whole container. I think they've switched to another brand of tea though.
    The revolutiontea sound good too!

I looked on a container of tea and read. 8 oz of green tea has 30 mg of caffeine. For the same 8 oz- black tea has 50 mg, coffee has 100 mg, cola has 45 mg, decaf tea (non herbal) has 4 mg.

I like Tea Tech's Instant Green Tea beverage mix in Raspberry Flavor... it's good either hot or cold. 0 calories less than 1g of Total Carbs 100% vitamin C 45 mg of Caffeine 300mg of Polyphenols

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

I just recently bought some celestial seasonings....it's some good stuff. The antioxidant power of green tea is what makes it so good. (I read in some magazine (Organic....something) that even applied topically green tea is suppose to have some benefits with antioxidants (ie antiaging....sundamage) The way you apply it topically is brew like two bags, chill the liquid, then put it in a spray bottle and say after a long day in the sun spray it on. It definitely soothes the skin, I jsut got back from a vaca to NC and I was on the beach EVERYDAY, got a little burnt. I made the spray and it def. soothed my skin, I hardly felt like I was burnt.

As for the brands, I used Celestial Seasonings Decaf for the spray, and I drank it too. My mom bought some called Stash that was NOT decaf, I drank that kind too. I really didn't notice a difference except I got a lil hyper from the Stash kind. .......oh and on the stash box it actually illustrated how much caffeine is in everyday caffeineted drinks like espresso, coffee, soda and of course tea. Tea does have quite a bit

    http://www.stashtea.com/caffeine.htm

Found this on the Stash website. So i guess green tea has about half the amount of caffeine that a can of pop has. Depends on the kind of tea you drink.

Hmmmm......I want the super caffeinated kind, its got to be out there! Perhaps I should just stick with my tar-thick and speed packed expresso machine after all?

Kat, I'm telling you, yerba mate is your best friend. If you want to get away from coffee and into something with more health benefits but still keep your stimulant, you've gotta try it. And it mixes great with green tea, if you want those documented antioxident benefits. It also layers well with any number of other herbs you might want to infuse for either flavor, aromatherapy, or health reasons.

There is a big debate on if mate actually contains caffeine or some other alkaloid that acts similarly to caffeine but without the same negative side effects. The following website claims that mate is caffeine-free, but details the effects that the chemical mateine (the alkaloid in question) has on the nervous system:

Better than any other xanthine alkaloid, Mate has the ability to increase mental alertness and acuity and to do it without any side effects such as nervousness and jitters. It seems to act like a tonic, stimulating a weakened and depressed nervous system and sedating an overexcited one. Our knowledge of Mate's effects is currently limited to observations of behavior changes such as more energy and vitality; better ability to concentrate; less nervousness, agitation, and anxiety; and increased resistance to both physical and mental fatigue. Improvement in mood, especially in cases of depression, often follows drinking aspects of Mate is that it does not interfere with sleep cycles; in fact, it has a tendency to balance the cycles, inducing more rapid eye movement (REM) sleep when necessary, or increasing the amount of time spent in delta states (deep sleep).
This website refers to the stimulant in mate as caffeine (I don't really care what they call it, as long as it picks me up!!) and has a detailed list of the other health benefits of drinking mate. They also have a comparison of caffeine content in their various yerba mate products:

    LIGHT, REFRESHING PICK-ME-UP
Magical Mint, Chai Spice, Orange Blossom, or Maté Rooiboost! (22-35 mg of caffeine) That’s 1/5 the amount of caffeine found in a cup of coffee!

    MODERATE RECHARGE
Traditional Yerba Maté, Greener Green Tea, or Maté Chocolatté. (42-52 mg of caffeine)

    FUERTE!
Make a maté latte with some traditional loose yerba mate and warm milk. Also try brewing a java mate (Dark Roast, Vanilla Nut or Mocha Maca) in a French press or coffee maker for an early morning treat. (65-156 mg of caffeine)

    MUY FUERTE!
Pack a South American gourd with our traditional loose leaf and drink like the ancient Paraguayans did! Share a gourd with 3-4 friends. (190-250 mg of caffeine

For comparison: Green Tea (30 mg/8 oz) Cola (45 mg/12 oz) Coffee (135 mg/8 oz) Source: Center for Science in the Public Interest
    Hope this helps.

The Lipton Green Tea is really good, and it has tons of different flavours.

They have a decaf one too, but it has LESS antioxidants than the regular one. This is because the flavonoids neutralize when going through the decaf process.

Last two times I drank green tea I puked my guts out

Couldn't quite figure it out at first, but I never get sick for no reason. And I wasn't mixing with alcohol or fast food or anything like that.

For antioxidants you should drink pommegranate, cranberry, blueberry juices. There are more but I can't remember.
